  1. Caldera Records is proud to present a two CD set with works by beloved composer Abel Korzeniowski. Before he rose to fame with scores like “A Single Man” and “Penny Dreadful”, the Polish born musician wrote several compositions for stage plays in his home country. Among them were “I Served the King of England” (2003), “The Odyssey” (2005), “Kafka” (2001), “Antigone” (1996) and “The Tempest” (2003) which celebrate their premiere release on this set. Excerpts from some of these works were previously released on a digital promo by the composer. The works presented here show the wide variety of styles Korzeniowski applies due to his incredible talent. “I Served the King of England” is one of his most original scores with a distinctive Eastern European flavour due to the use of a hammered dulcimer and accordion. “The Odyssey” is something completely different altogether, evoking ancient Greek music mixed with modern Western influences, using traditional as well as medieval instruments while “Kafka” is probably the quirkiest music ever written by its composer – and yet surprisingly sorrowful and dark at times. “Antigone” is as experimental as “Kafka”; written for choir, the complex music is certainly demanding for the singers but rewarding to listen to with its unusual harmonies, counterpoints and motifs which are not obvious at first. “The Tempest” is more traditional in that sense and immediately accessible with its elegant melodies and interesting musical colors. If you either like Korzeniowski because of his biggest successes like “A Single Man” or if you are just discovering this composer, this CD set is the perfect accompaniment for you: a most diverse collection which presents treasures to discover for everybody. As a bonus, we included an exclusive interview with the composer where he talks about his work. Due to the length of the interview, it is not included on the actual CD but can be downloaded on the interview via a link provided. Furthermore, we printed examples of the written score for “Antigone” in the booklet. The 13th CD-release of Caldera Records features a detailed booklet-text by Gergely Hubai and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. The CD was produced by Stephan Eicke and John Elborg. 2. Winner of the IFMCA Best Documentary Score 2011 Caldera Records is proud to present the original score for the American documentary The Wind Gods from 2011, composed by Pinar Toprak. The movie chronicles the 10 year quest of famous entrepreneur Larry Ellison who set sail with his ‘Oracle’ to win the America’s Cup and therefore bring the prestigious sailing prize home to the US after it had been won by foreigners in the past years. The documentary which is both an adventure, an insight into the mindset of the well-known billionaire and a love letter to sailing, is narrated by Jeremy Irons and features the magnum opus by its composer Toprak. The Turkish-born musician delivered a grand, sweeping and epic score which shows how exciting the music for a documentary can be: filled with several memorable themes, a detailed orchestration and a lot of swashbuckling action, the music brims with masculine forces and female sensibilities. Deservedly, Toprak was awarded the IFMCA award (International Film Music Critics Association) for Best Documentary Score in 2011 and trumped out prestigious colleagues like George Fenton and Patrick Doyle for their efforts that year. This is no surprise: recorded with the 70+ piece Hollywood Studio Symphony conducted by Jerome Leroy, The Wind Gods is a vivid, thematic and diverse score worthy of the biggest Hollywood epics. As a bonus, we included an exclusive audio commentary by the composer where she talks about his work. The twelfth CD-release of Caldera Records features a detailed booklet-text by Gergely Hubai and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. The CD was produced by Stephan Eicke and John Elborg. 1. 3. Caldera Records is proud to present the original score for the television movie Maria di Nazaret from 2012, directed by Giacomo Campiotti. The two part movie was a huge success in Italy as it recounts the story of Jesus’ mother Maria and accompanies her throughout the life of the son of God until his death on the cross. Maria was played by internationally acclaimed actress Paz Vega who rose to fame after her role in the Adam Sandler movie Spanglish. The music for Maria di Nazaret was written by British composer and conductor Guy Farley (Secret Sharer, Modigliani) who delivers probably his most diverse score to date, featuring lush orchestral melodies for orchestra and choir as well as female vocals and solos for ethnic instruments, played by Tony Hinnigan (Braveheart). Additionally, we included another score by Farley on the CD: L’uomo che sognava con l’aquile was written for an extensive Italian television production with Terence Hill which gathered raving reviews after its premiere in 2006. Also, we present a bonus cue with the much beloved track Reunited from the Jean Claude van Damme movie Wake of Death which receives its premiere release here. Audio Commentary by Guy Farley (3:17) Listen to an audio clip here: https://soundcloud.com/alderaecords/mary-of-nazareth-guy-farley First Reviews: "This is a score not to be missed at any cost. It should be cherished and universally loved. It’s the type of score that I thought was just a part of the past, but turns out there’s hope for our younger generations too if more scores like this is allowed to be released. Needless to say, this is a stunning score that ticks all the right boxes. Buy this CD and a box of tissues and you’ll be a happy camper." http://www.soundtrackgeek.com/v2/soundtrack-review-maria-di-nazaret/ "“Maria di Nazaret” is one of the most intimate and beautiful score I’ve heard in a while. The subtle and melodic piano strokes are like drops of rain in the desert. You almost can’t believe they are real. The female choral parts give me shivers and the ambient moments are soft and intense like a prayer. Guy Farley wrote a musical fairytale that I just want to put in a glass globe and have with me all the time. I stand by the two names I mentioned in the beginning: this is a score John Barry would have written after a meeting with Ennio Morricone and it’s amazing to find a composer worthy of that legacy. Get this score and welcome it into your life…" http://www.soundtrackdreams.com/2015/07/soundtrack-review-maria-di-nazaret-guy-farley-2012/ For more information visit: http://caldera-records.com/portfolio/maria-di-nazaret/gallery/soundtracks/
  4. Caldera Records is proud to present the original score for the movie Belle du Seigneur from 2011, directed by Glenio Bonder. The movie is based on the famous book of the same title by Albert Cohen who writes about a troubled love affair in Switzerland during the 1930s. Cohen portrays Solal, who starts an affair with the beautiful Ariadne, the protestant wife of one of his employees. The forbidden passion and the political dealings prior to World War II create an unbearably tense atmosphere both on paper – and on film. The tense atmosphere can be experienced in the music by Gabriel Yared as well. The Oscar-winning composer (The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley) wrote a delicate, elegant and intimate score for symphony orchestra which is built around a fragile waltz which serves as the main theme of the soundtrack. The theme is surrounded by sorrowful string adagios, catchy melodies for solo instruments such as the clarinet and the piano as well as inspired suspense passages which Yared uses for demanding solo passages with complicated rhythms. Enjoy one of the most hauntingly beautiful scores by the Lebanese-born composer for the first time ever on CD. As a bonus, we included an insightful interview with the musician who talks about his career and his approach to film music in general. The eighth CD-release of Caldera Records features a detailed booklet-text by Gergely Hubai and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. The CD was produced by Stephan Eicke and John Elborg. 5. Listen to a five minute audio-clip here: http://images.sae-cdn.com/media/28539-18981.mp3 Caldera Records is proud to present to original scores by Spanish composer Alfonso de Vilallonga for the first time on CD: Transsiberian is a tough, edgy thriller by acclaimed director Brad Anderson (The Machinist, The Call) which was well-received by both critics and audiences alike. The movie stars Emily Mortimer and Woody Harrelson as a couple who travels from China to Moscow only to get involved in a dangerous drug smuggling crime, making their holiday to a fight for survival. For Transsiberian, Vilallonga wrote a moody, dark and yet at times surprisingly tender and melodic score for orchestra and solo-musicians like the cello which is featured prominently with virtuous solos. Coupled with Transsiberian is the music for the well-known Spanish production Princesas about the friendship of two prostitutes and their struggle in both their lives and their profession. Vilallonga provides them with a tender main theme which receives its variations throughout the whole score with solos by piano, violin, cello, clarinet and accordion. Vilallonga, whose most famous project is the silent black and white-movie Blancanieves, is at the top of his game with these two original works which deserve to be heard on CD. As with every release of Caldera Records, the album features an exclusive audio commentary by the composer who talks about his career and his musical approach. The seventh production of Caldera Records features a detailed booklet-text by Gergely Hubai and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. The CD was produced by Stephan Eicke and John Elborg.
