  1. https://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.12664/.f?sc=13&category=22848 Intrada Special Collection Volume ISC 487 Premier 2-CD expanded release of spectacular symphonic score by James Newton Howard! Lavish, sincere yet still magical filming of timeless books & stageplay by James M. Barrie gets 2003 release. Columbia Pictures & Universal Pictures with Revolution Studios presents, Jason Isaacs, Jeremy Sumpter, Richard Briers, Olivia Williams, Lynn Redgrave head cast, Ludivine Sagnier plays Tink, P.J. Hogan directs & scripts with Michael Goldenberg, Industrial Light & Magic creates the visual wonders. James Newton Howard scores for large orchestra plus chorus, fashions music that melds soaring flight music, mystical Tinkerbell moments with powerhouse action sequences - many of them omitted from previous highlights album issued at time of film’s release. Beloved characters include Peter Pan, Wendy, the fairy Tinkerbell and, of course, the villainous Captain Hook, who lost his hand to a crocodile. Howard offers truly wall-to-wall scoring that presents richly thematic material that evolves, changes throughout with stunning array of ideas both large and small. Contrast of material is stunning! Opening celeste, xylophone, strings are joined by female chorus to establish perfect tone to launch with quotes of darker Hook material soon making appearance, followed by twittering flute for Tink, triplet figure suggesting gentle love story to unfold ahead and heard more fully during “Is That A Kiss?”. Back-to-back “Learning To Fly” and “Flying” are early, rousing set-pieces, with “Flying” rising to especially grand peroration for full orchestra with chorus. “Fetch Long Tom” ushers in excitement, “Castle Swordfight” furthers action with lively rhythms, rousing statement of main theme in fanfare-treatment, climaxing in deadly serious, aggressive moment for crocodile encounter, a previously unreleased highlight. Lilting waltz-like idea alternating between major and minor builds in deliberate fashion, becomes emotionally rich “Fairy Dance”. Highlights abound in Howard’s massive, lengthy opus: “Please Don’t Die” offers powerful chords in orchestra and chorus, building to dramatic finish, dynamic low brass rhythmic procession as “Wendy Walks The Plank”. Latter portion of score is packed with energy: “Into The Rigging” opens with powerful 4/4 action motif then later erupts in chopping motif for brass, “He’s Mine” launches with riveting horn motif then becomes an action highlight for entire orchestra replete with brass fanfares, glissandi trombones, everything but the kitchen sink. When all is said and done, Howard bids farewell to Think in moving quote, then brings Peter’s soaring theme to the fore for climax of “Peter Returns” and finally melts with quiet, beautiful major-key finish. Unusually long “End Title/End Credits” sequence in film incredibly is all Howard, with over ten minutes of material both drawn from score and recorded specifically for closing suite, a magnificent wrap-up. Entire 112-minute score presented direct from digital two-track stereo session mixes made by Shawn Murphy in October & November 2003, colorful flipper-style package from Kay Marshall, detailed notes from Frank DeWald include new comments for this release by the composer. 2. THE FACULTY Composed and Conducted by MARCO BELTRAMI INTRADA ISC 485 For the 1998 Miramax horror film The Faculty, composer Marco Beltrami pulled out all the stops to deliver a scary, exciting and sometimes reflective score. The score features orchestral chaos and cacophony, strange whisperings and explosive action, as well as some moments of beauty. Hypnotic, Bernard Herrmann-like suspense cues appear, as well as a melancholy, a reflective theme for the bullied main character. At the core is a defiant students-strike-back theme, first brought in somewhat romantically, then later fully unfurled in larger form. A laid-back but determined anthem growls on electric guitar, then more gently on acoustic, over a slow-jam rock groove which pulses all through the score. Beltrami only had a few moments in between all of the mayhem to break out this theme, which reprises with heroic relief in the climactic action sequence, so he extended and developed it as a stunning concert piece for the end credits. For this release, Buck Sanders and Scott Williams pulled together the program from the original session masters recorded at Skywalker Sound in crisp, detailed sound quality. The 2-CD set features the 88-minute score plus a couple of extras. Check out the soundtrack trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiwF55I3exU&t=1s In the film, the angsty teens of Herrington High are mean, brooding monsters and preyed-upon victims, roaming the halls every day spitting on, cursing, and being generally horrible to each other. So they were arguably asking for it when a mysterious extraterrestrial virus infected the faculty lounge and began to spread violently throughout the school, turning adults and classmates alike into ghoulishly grinning hosts that mask giant squid creatures. It’s a loud enough wake-up call for a small crew of misfit students to set aside their mutual loathing and band together to fight back—thus enacting a common high school wish fulfillment—killing those pesky teachers. 8. Quartet Records, Geffen Records and Paramount Pictures present the premiere release of the complete score by Harold Faltermeyer (BEVERLY HILLS COP, TOP GUN, FLETCH, TANGO AND CASH) for Douglas Day Stewart’s 1984 sexual, romantic drama-thriller THIEF OF HEARTS, starring Steven Bauer, Barbara Williams and John Getz. The film is about a woman trapped in a boring marriage who begins an affair with a handsome man who seems able to read her mind. She doesn’t know that he has broken into her house and read her diaries, in which she has recorded her deepest thoughts and fantasies. Harold Faltermeyer provided an intense, romantic and suspenseful electronic score, varied and rhythmic. The composer also wrote and produced several pop songs for the film, and arranged the original song “Thief of Hearts,” composed by Giorgio Moroder and performed by Melissa Manchester, which was a huge hit in its single version. The popular THIEF OF HEARTS soundtrack album was released by MCA on LP and CD and reissued several times over the years, although in its 40-minute length it included only the five songs and five score cues specifically arranged for the album. This limited 2-CD edition from Quartet Records includes, for the first time, the complete score composed and recorded by Faltermeyer for the film, and also the remastered MCA album, unused cues, demos, and alternate versions of both score and songs. A treat for all fans of 80s synth sound! Meticulously produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Doug Schwartz, the 20-page full color package includes in-depth liner notes by film music writer Daniel Schweiger. DISC 1. 10.
