Featuring the song Everybody Get Nuts Performed by Luke Edgemon featuring Tha Vill.

Heitor Pereira has been kept busy by the Minions and the Smurfs but has found time to compose a wonderfully fun and catchy score for our squirley friends of Nut Job in Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature.

Surly the squirrel and his animal friends find out that the corrupt mayor of Oakton plans to bulldoze their beloved Liberty Park to make way for an amusement park. Hoping to save the place they call home, Surly, Andie, Buddy and the rest of the gang join forces with Mr. Feng, a seemingly cute and innocent mouse who happens to be a fierce master of kung fu. Quartet Records present the new score by well-known composer Fernando Velázquez (Crimson Peak, A Monster Calls, Devil, Mama, Ozzy) for the directorial debut of Sergio G. Sánchez (screenwriter of The Orphanage and The Impossible). This thriller-horror-drama-western has been produced by J.A. Bayona, and stars Mia Goth (A Cure for Wellness), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), George MacKay (Captain Fantastic) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things).

The plot revolves around a young man and his four younger siblings. They have kept secret the death of their beloved mother in order to remain together, and are plagued by a sinister presence in the sprawling manor in which they live.

Fernando Velázquez has composed one of his most special, extensive and complex scores. It encompasses the sound of Gothic terror, full-blooded romanticism, lovely pastoral passages and a return to the openly symphonic sound that we miss in other current scores. Skillfully and precisely performed by the Asturias Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the composer. The CD includes 4 bonus tracks not included in the digital release, and the package features a 16-page booklet with in-depth liner notes and a track-by-track analysis by the film’s director, Sergio G. Sánchez.

sometimes_a_great_notion.jpg

Quartet Records and Universal Music Group present the premiere CD release of the nostalgic, Cajun-inflected country score composed by Henry Mancini (Touch of Evil, The Great Race, The Great Waldo Pepper, 10) for Paul Newman’s intimate drama about an Oregon family of gyppo loggers who cut and procure trees for a local mill in opposition to striking, unionized workers. The film stars Newman, Henry Fonda, Lee Remick, Richard Jaeckel and Michael Sarrazin.

Sometimes a Great Notion was the first collaboration between Paul Newman and Henry Mancini. The two friends would work together on three more films (The Shadow Box, Harry & Son and The Glass Menagerie). A common factor among all scores Mancini wrote for Newman was the actor/director’s preference for different musical styles (jazz, country, blues) that were far from conventional underscore. Country-western and Cajun are the main sounds explored by Mancini in this score, including the beautiful ballad "All His Children" (with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman), performed by Charley Pride.

This CD contains the album prepared by Mancini for MCA in 1971, which includes almost all the score recorded for the film (only one 90-second cue was omitted). Audio was restored and mastered by Chris Malone; the 12-page full-color package includes detailed liner notes by John Takis and an essay written by producer John Foreman for the original LP.

the_big_brawl.jpg

Quartet Records and Towa Music presents the premiere CD release of super-cool Lalo Schifrin's high-octane jazz action score for The Big Brawl (aka The Battle Creek Brawl) The film was directed by Robert Clouse, who previously helmed Enter the Dragon, the film that cemented Bruce Lee as a legend of cinematic martial arts. This 1980s effort was meant to do the same thing for Jackie Chan, giving him an American debut vehicle that could make him a household name outside Hong Kong. The story is set in Prohibition-era America where Jerry Kwan (played by Chan) works at a shop and dreams of marrying his fiancée, Nancy (Kristine DeBell). When his crazy fighting skills get noticed by a crime syndicate, Jerry is forced to enter a fighting tournament where he must beat the muscle-bound champion if he wants to see his girlfriend again...

The film reunited Clouse with composer Lalo Schifrin who had worked with the director on Enter the Dragon as well as its spiritual sequel, Golden Needles. The Big Brawl rounds out this trilogy of sorts with music that builds upon Schifrin's jazz recordings rather than his Oriental-flavored scores. The music is largely constructed around an infectiously whistled main theme and individual set pieces that focus on Chan's seemingly improvisational method of fighting—in addition to other action sequences (such as a skating derby). A beautiful love theme for Jerry and Nancy rounds out the score.

This CD premiere presents the same music contained on the Japanese LP—practically the complete score—plus a bonus track, but the cues have been re-sequenced for a more cohesive listening experience. With audio meticulously mastered by Chris Malone, the album features a 16-page full-color booklet with liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and featuring a track-by-track breakdown of the score.

Quartet Records presents the new film score composed by Víctor Reyes (Buried, Red Lights, Grand Piano, Emmy Award winner for his score to the acclaimed TV series The Night Manager) for Xavier Gent’s sci-fi horror film, Cold Skin, starring David Oakes, Ray Stevenson, Aura Garrido and John Belfield.

The story is set on a lost island in the middle of the ocean, where two men, sheltering in a lighthouse, defend themselves, night after night, against the siege of some strange marine creatures. Subjected to extreme tension, without understanding the reasons for the attack, they will have to rethink how to face the unknown.

Quartet Records presents the classy, exciting, moving and very special new score composed by Pascal Gaigne (El faro de las orcas, El olivo, Amaren Eskuak, Castillos de cartón) for this period drama—his latest collaboration with Basque directors Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño after 80 Egunean and Loreak.

After fighting in the First Carlist War, Martin returns to his family farm in Gipuzkoa and discovers with surprise that his younger brother, Joaquin, is much taller than normal. Convinced that everyone will want to pay to see the tallest man on Earth, both brothers embark on a long journey through Europe in which ambition, money and fame will forever change the fate of the family. A story inspired by real events.

Composing the music for this film was a challenge for the composer. He gave his score a kind of romantic and impressionist color, with delicate orchestration, electronic textures, and a beautiful, flowing leitmotif that unfolds slowly throughout the entire score. The music is performed by The Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Hernando.

le-magnifique.jpg

To celebrate the CD release of Le Magnifique, the CDs of Le Professionnel, Le Marginal and Peur sur la Ville are back in stock.

A 2-CD set.
Newly remastered and expanded edition.
16-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Nicolas Magenham.

In collaboration with Gruppo Sugar and EMI Music Publishing, Music Box Records proudly presents the remastered and expanded CD release of Claude Bolling’s original motion picture score to the iconic 1973 comedy Le Magnifique (The Man from Acapulco), starring Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jacqueline Bisset and Vittorio Caprioli, and directed by Philippe de Broca (That Man from Rio, King of Hearts).

Le Magnifique tells the story of a second-class writer, François Merlin, the author of best-selling spy novels featuring the secret agent Bob Saint-Clar, Merlin’s dashing and reckless alter ego. His neighbour Christine appears as Tatiana and his publisher Georges Charron as evil Colonel Karpoff.

For this cult French espionage parody, Claude Bolling composed a very varied score with eclectic moods: romanticism, Mariachi music, exotic and stereotypical colours (Latin-American rhythms and a big band used as a tribute to John Barry’s music for the James Bond movies), pop music, and using a full symphony orchestra conducted by Carlo Savina and recorded in Rome at Studio Forum.

This brand new album presentation celebrates the 40th anniversary of the classic comedy in 2018. The definitive 2-CD edition features the complete film score on the first CD (including alternate versions and previously unreleased cues) and the remastered original 1973 soundtrack album on the second one. The package includes a 16-page booklet with liner notes by Nicolas Magenham, discussing the film and the score.

Quartet Records presents a holiday treat: the premiere CD release of a long-awaited Christmas classic!

We are all familiar with Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol—the tale of three ghosts who teach a miserly businessman the true meaning of Christmas. The 1984 version (which debuted on television in the US market) stars George C. Scott as Scrooge, along with David Warner, Susannah York, Frank Finlay and Angela Pleasence. The film was directed by Clive Donner, who edited the 1951 adaptation of the Christmas classic.

The wonderful symphonic score was composed by Nick Bicât (Stealing Heaven, Wetherby, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Reflecting Skin)—twice nominated for a BAFTA Award—who provides yuletide joy, adaptations of classic (but not clichéd) Christmas carols as well as an original song for the end credits. The score itself is organized around the three ghosts, all of whom have their own sounds: the fun gavotte of the Ghost of Christmas Past, the fanfare for the Ghost of Christmas Present and the cold atmosphere of the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. The album features the premiere release of the fan-favorite end-credits song: "God Bless Us Every One."

Orchestrated and conducted by Tony Britten, this complete score release has been produced by Nick Bicât, mastered by Marc Blanes, and comes with a richly illustrated booklet with notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film, the composer and the score. The lyrics to all the featured songs are included for you to sing along!

Quartet Records and NRK Television present another holiday treat!—a 2-CD set featuring composer Henrik Skram’s original score to the 2016 acclaimed Norwegian TV series Snøfall (Snowfall), a fantasy Christmas tale about courage, friendship and the search for belonging.

The story is about Selma, who, having lost her parents in an accident five years ago, wishes for nothing more than a family she can belong to. The letter she writes to Santa Claus turns into a paper bird which flies to Snøfall—a magical village full of wondrous people. On her journey through this enchanting Christmas fairy tale, Selma will figure out who she is and where she belongs—although it is far from what she would have ever expected.

Talented young Norwegian composer Henrik Skram (90 Minutes, Ballet Boys, Tordenskjold & Kold) provides a warm, charming, massive orchestral tour-de-force performed by the Norwegian Radio Orchestra under the baton of Matt Dunkley, in a score full of fantasy, tender melodies and impeccably tasteful writing. Fans of John Williams, James Horner or Bruce Broughton will not be disappointed!

Henrik Skram won his second Golden Screen Award for his work on this series score.

To celebrate our 300th release, Quartet Records is proud to present, in collaboration with Gruppo Sugar, a mammoth 2-CD set presenting for the first time ever Nino Rota’s complete original score for Federico Fellini’s masterpiece La Dolce Vita.

Starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, Anouk Aimée and Walter Garrone, La Dolce Vita is a 1960 Italian drama that follows Marcello Rubini (Mastroianni), a journalist writing for gossip magazines, over seven days and nights on his journey through the “sweet life” of Rome in a fruitless search for love and happiness.

Fellini once described his film as “a veritable Tower of Babel” because of the many languages spoken in it, and Rota’s score for La Dolce Vita is its own Babel of genre—a grab bag of melancholic orchestral music, jazz, light pop, rollicking rock, circus fanfares, dances, pastiches and cultural references. Nino Rota provides a beautiful underscore, almost phantasmagorical, to illustrate the empty streets of Rome, the solitude of the next morning, the world of luxury, decadence and lust that seems to end.

A 40-minute LP of the soundtrack was released on RCA Victor in 1961 and reissued many times on CD by C.A.M. For this premiere complete edition, we have included the complete 77-minute score on CD 1. On the second disc we have included more than 35 minutes of previously unreleased music with lots of alternates and music written by Rota that was not used in the final print of the movie, as well as the original album. The entire project has been produced by Jose M. Benitez, supervised by Claudio Fuiano, and carefully restored and mastered by Chris Malone from the first-generation master tapes—originally recorded in mono—courtesy of Gruppo Sugar. The original album has also been reconstructed by Mr. Malone from the original session tapes and now sounds better than ever.

The package includes a richly illustrated 20-page booklet with liner notes by Tim Greiving, who offers a detailed analysis of the film and score, including quotes from exclusive interviews with film critic A.O. Scott and composer Alexandre Desplat.

Quartet Records is proud to celebrate the tenth anniversary of J.A. Bayona’s horror cult-classic The Orphanage with a newly recorded, complete edition of the score composed by Fernando Velázquez. The Orphanage was the first collaboration between director and composer, a partnership that has continued in such modern classics as The Impossible and A Monster Calls.

It may seem unusual that a barely ten-year-old score is being re-recorded, but giving The Orphanage a second chance to shine is an undertaking of which Quartet Records is especially proud. This tenth-anniversary edition includes every note Fernando wrote for the film in its original conception to give fans a bold, new take on a modern classic. The original soundtrack album was negotiated and signed off before the recordings were made, and while Fernando wasn’t quite satisfied with the performance, the album had to be released nonetheless. It was a problematic recording, without much possibility of correcting mistakes (do not forget that The Orphanage was a low-budget film). When the possibility of expanding the original 47-minute-long program was being discussed in early 2017, a review of the original multi-track recordings revealed that time hasn’t been kind to Velázquez’s first major score, so a new plan was formulated. The composer took it upon himself to revisit the project by doing a brand-new recording with the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, the same ensemble he used for A Monster Calls, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,Submergence and his “Concert Suites” album. By using one of his favorite orchestras and his usual recording engineer, Marc Blanes, whom he couldn’t use on his seminal score, Quartet Records and Fernando Velazquez present the same music he wrote a decade ago (including previously unrecorded alternates), using the know-how and skills he has gained in the past 10 years to bring fans a new recording of which we can all be proud.

This edition includes newly commissioned artwork by PosterSpy & Karl Fitzgerald. The package comes with a 16-page full-color booklet with liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and score, an essay by Spanish musical authority Luis Ángel de Benito, and statements by Fernando Velázquez and director J.A. Bayona.

Quartet Records and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer presents a very special new edition of Burt Bacharach’s timeless classic soundtrack for the 1967 James Bond spoof Casino Royale to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The infectious main theme performed by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass is just the starting point of an epic comedy ride that includes such highlights as the unforgettable “The Look of Love,” sung by Dusty Springfield, or the epic fight music at the end of the film. Produced by record industry legend Phil Ramone, the original soundtrack LP offered selected highlights, expertly edited to showcase the best parts of the entire score. Thanks to the legendary sound quality of the stereo copies, this record became one of the most highly sought-after collectibles in the industry.

Previously released on CD by several labels, including us (twice, both now out of print), this edition is an important landmark for this legendary score, and we can proudly say that it now sounds better than ever. This new edition has been produced, restored and mastered by wizard engineer Chris Malone, rebuilding the score from the ground up. Malone’s work has focused on addressing unintended technical anomalies (such as filling dropouts and covering analogue splices) rather than broadly applying a modern sound palette. He has eschewed dynamic range compression and retained the brilliance of the original recording. Because the LP program derived from the original film recordings (with some edits made for a more pleasure listening), we have included it on our CD and added all the music composed by Bacharach that was not on the LP to make a 77-minute CD. The bonus tracks are in mono (music stems are still the only available source to date), but Chris has worked them in a very different mood from our previous edition, respecting the mono without adding any stereo reverb and carefully restoring each track in a very warm way. We can say the sound is day and night compared with our previous edition. Live and learn.

To learn more about Chris Malone’s work on this release and read an interview with sound engineer Jack Clegg, who recorded this score 50 years ago at C.T.S. Bayswatster, please follow this link:

This release includes a bonus track making its CD debut: the promo-single version by Mike Redway, and arranged by Bacharach, of the song “Have No Fear, Bond Is Here.” The CD also showcases all-new, exclusive liner notes from film music writer Jeff Bond, and new art design by Nacho B. Govantes in a 20-page full-color booklet.

Hyperspace_DDR.jpg

Dragon’s Domain Records, distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents the long out-of-print orchestral score to HYPERSPACE, composed by Don Davis. One of the first feature length STAR WARS parodies, HYPERSPACE came out in 1984. Known in England as GREMLOIDS and as GREMLORDS in France and Germany, HYPERSPACE was writer/director Todd Durham’s second and last film as director, working with ambitiously cost-conscious low-budget producer Earl Owensby. The movie was released in September 1984, but it wasn’t until 1988 that the film received a wider release on home video.

Starring comedians Chris Elliott and Paula Poundstone and filmed in North Carolina, HYPERSPACE imitates STAR WARS in context and execution from its opening text crawl into infinity to its inscrutable helmeted monarch of menace, Lord Buckethead (played by Robert Bloodworth, but voiced by Barry Cooper). Lord Buckethead is hot on the trail of vital radio transmissions stolen from the corrupt Galactic Alliance by members of an allied resistance force. Buckethead intends to get them back, aided by diminutive, Jawa-robed minions known as gremloids. However, unbeknownst to him, he has made a serious navigational error, and rather than reaching his intended destination he lands instead upon the Earth, where he and his gremloid faction march into the closest small town and proceed with their mission.

A purposefully STAR WARS-esque orchestral score was provided by newly-minted composer Don Davis, in his first feature film score. Performed by a live, 56-piece orchestra, Davis’s music provided the film with its missing gravitas; and it made enough of an impression among Hollywood film music folk that it led to a lasting and respectful career scoring films and television, including TV’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and SEAQUEST DSV and blockbuster films like THE MATRIX series and JURASSIC PARK III.

“Obviously the movie was a parody of STAR WARS, so the only approach to music I could logically take was similarly a parody of John Williams’s work,” said Davis in an exclusive new interview for the album notes. “I got as close to STAR WARS as I could get without it being STAR WARS.” Davis provided the right kind of feeling to the music which gave the score a suitably grandiose dynamic and aided in the film’s parodist nature.

The composer’s approach to supporting the film’s inherent humor was based on “not writing funny music,” but scoring the movie with absolute seriousness, thereby allowing the parody to exist within the film and among its characters in a world where even the most farcical of circumstances are treated with genuine integrity.  “The concept of playing it straight, as if the show were not a comedy, was what we wanted to do with our movie,” said Davis. “We treated it as if it really was STAR WARS and everything was completely serious.”

The film came and went without much ado or remembrance, but the music was noticed and that gave Davis an auspicious debut in this, his first opportunity to make the jump into… HYPERSPACE.
The score was first released on an 11-track CD in 1993, paired with another Davis score. This expanded reissue from Dragon’s Domain Records includes eight previously-unreleased tracks. HYPERSPACE is a limited edition release of 1000 units and can be ordered at www.buysoundtrax.com. The first 50 units sold through the Buy Soundtrax website will include a booklet autographed by the composer.

Ships the week of January 3rd.

We are so excited to be releasing Benjamin Wallfisch’s powerful and stunningly moving score for Mully. The year has only just begun but Mully is sure to be on lists of the year’s best when New Years rolls around again. Magnificent beauty.

What happens when a six-year-old boy in Kenya is abandoned by his family and left to raise himself on the streets? MULLY is no ordinary rags-to-riches tale. It's the true story of Charles Mully, whose unlikely stratospheric rise to wealth and power leaves him questioning his own existence, searching for meaning in life. Against the better judgment of family and community, MULLY sets out to enrich the fate of orphaned children across Kenya. Jeopardizing his own life and the security of his family, Charles Mully risks everything and sets in motion a series of events that is nothing short of astonishing.

Composer Jeff Beal (House of Cards) has created an epic new score for National Geographic’s series The Long Road Home.

Based on journalist Martha Raddatz's same-named best-seller, "The Long Road Home" dramatizes the heroism on the front lines of the Iraq War. On April 4, 2004 -- a day that came to be known in military annals as "Black Sunday" -- the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood was brutally ambushed, an incident that changed the U.S. military's view of Iraq from a peacekeeping mission to a fight against domestic insurgents. Across eight episodes, the series cuts between the battle in Iraq and the homefront in Texas, where wives and families anxiously await news for 48 agonizing hours.

The Rendezvous becomes acclaimed video game composer Austin Wintory’s first film score released on Varèse Sarabande, and we could not be more excited about this!

Some comments on the score by the film’s director Amin Matalqua. “We recorded the film’s score in Denver with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra along with some playful jazz piano to accompany Rachel’s investigation. For the mysterious scroll and the Armageddonites seeking it, he wrote an eerie theme for cello and saxophone. Austin surprised me with his end-credits suite, which incorporates a full orchestral arrangement of a theme I wrote, “Claire de Claire,” for my wife before we got married.”

A Jewish doctor and a Muslim State Department employee unwittingly become involved in a mystery that could change the future of the world in The Rendezvous, a classic love story inspired by Sarah Isaias’ popular novel, A New Song.

Rachel Rozman (Stana Katic), a Jewish doctor working in Los Angeles, is called to Jordan to identify the body of her brother David, an archeologist specializing in religious artifacts. When she realizes that David has been murdered, she joins forces with Jake Al-Shadi (Raza Jaffrey), an American Muslim working for the U.S. government, to find out what happened. They learn that David had discovered a previously undreamt-of artifact, now missing, that could contain the secret to the storied End of Days. Drawn into a world of violent religious fanatics called the Armageddonites, who are in desperate search of the missing antiquity, Rachel and Jake put aside their cultural differences to stop them and find themselves unexpectedly falling in love.

Zitat

In 2010, Gottfried Huppertz’ original film composition for Metropolis was newly recorded for the presentation of the restored version of the film. The orchestra performed the music in synchronization with the film. During postproduction, the synchronization was further refined and optimized during the music editing process: the timing of certain passages was adjusted and musical transitions and pauses aligned to the moving image in correspondence to the numerous synchronization points already marked in the score to achieve a precise timing and the aspired interaction between the music and the film. In preparation for the issue of the complete music for Metropolis, film-oriented gaps were closed, musical transitions cut appropriately and the music mixed in close consultation with Maestro Frank Strobel.

hab mich schon immer gefragt warum es TRUE ROMANCE nicht gab... jetzt nur als digital download is ja fast nen bisschen wenig... würd ma denken dafür gibts doch ne Nachfrage... aber gut, is ja sehr eintönig der Score... mag das aber ganz gerne...

btw, Fernando Velazquez hat gleich 3 neue Score bei Quartet: Deep, Thi Mai und Que baje dios y lo vea... nen Animated Film, ne Dramödie und ne Sportkomödie... davon gefällt mir beim Durchklicken Thi Mai spontan am Besten... DEEP ist mit 80min sehr lang... http://www.quartetrecords.com

Quest_Eskimo_Nell-600_1024x1024@2x.jpg?v

Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents the soundtrack release of THE QUEST/THE TRUE STORY OF ESKIMO NELL, a collection featuring music composed by Brian May (MAD MAX, THE ROAD WARRIOR, CLOAK & DAGGER) for a select group of Australian films produced by Antony I. Ginnane during the boom of the Australian New Wave of cinema in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Released in 1986, THE QUEST, also known as FROG DREAMING tells the story of Cody (Henry Thomas, E.T.), a young boy who confronts an Aboriginal myth whose dark magics may be more real than most people suspect. Recently orphaned, Cody is taken in by a family friend in Australia after the death of his parents. With his new foster sisters, Cody explores the local woods and comes across a water hole known by the local aborigines as Donkegin Hole, which is known to be a “frog dreaming” place, and that something unknown and very frightening may – or may not – live in its watery depths. The film was written by prolific Everett de Roche, author of a brawny handful of Ginnane’s successful fantastic thrillers. May’s score inhabits the characters and their environments with an adventurous enthusiasm but as their exploration of the haunted pond proves to be more dangerous than expected, the music turns threatening, closely following the advancing contours of the story and giving the drama an effective emotional substance. The music is performed by the Australian Symphony Orchestra, which gives the score an especially powerful sonic dynamic through the ASO’s muscular forces.

Released in 1975, THE TRUE STORY OF ESKIMO NELL is Brian May’s first film score. Based on a bawdy ballad of unknown authorship that is believed to date back to the 1940s, this film was an early venture of the Australian New Wave. It was written and directed by Richard Franklin in his feature directorial debut, and was immediately followed by the acclaimed science fiction thriller PATRICK which is what really launched Franklin’s career and sent him to the USA to direct PSYCHO 2. Antony Ginnane was on board in an uncredited de facto executive producer capacity during post-production. He met Brian May while working on the ESKIMO NELL movie, so this film was the beginning of a significant collaboration which brought them together for seven succeeding films. May’s score for ESKIMO NELL and her amorous admirers maintains a light-hearted and breezy vibe, focusing primarily on Deadeye Dick and Mexico Pete in their single-minded but oft-distracted search for Nell, with plenty of scherzos and fun (but never outright comic) music. The score is fully orchestral and May takes plenty to opportunities to engage in large orchestral gestures whenever appropriate

Born in Adelaide in 1934, Brian May (no relation to Brian Harold May of Queen) was one of the first composers to achieve international acclaim as an Australian composer and was best known as the composer of MAD MAX and THE ROAD WARRIOR (MAD MAX II). May received his musical training as a pianist, violinist and conductor at the Adelaide Elder Conservatorium. He joined the Australia Broadcasting Company in 1957, where he formed the ABC Adelaide Big Band, an ensemble that performed all manner of light music for broadcast, and May became a leading figure in Australian light music as a result. He moved to Melbourne in 1970 to arrange and conduct the ABC’s Melbourne Show band. Moving into film music in a period of time when Australia’s film industry was just beginning to take its place among international film circles, May composed such notable film scores as RACE FOR THE YANKEE ZEPHYR, ROAD GAMES, CLOAK AND DAGGER, DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR, MISSING IN ACTION 2, SKY PIRATES, STEEL DAWN, DR. GIGGLES, FREDDY’S DEAD: THE FINAL NIGHT MARE and BLINDSIDE. He won the Australian Film Institute Award for best original score with MAD MAX; many other awards followed, including the Golden Award from the Australian Performing Rights Association. He continued to score films until 1993, composing music for more than 30 films and many hours of television, most of which he orchestrated himself. Sadly, the composer passed away in 1997 at the age of 63.

Previously released on very rare compact disc releases, Dragon’s Domain Records is excited to bring the THE QUEST and THE TRUE STORY OF ESKIMO NELL together, newly remastered by Digital Outland. The booklet includes liner notes written by author Randall Larson, with the participation of producer Antony I. Ginnane.

THE QUEST/THE TRUE STORY OF ESKIMO NELL is a limited edition release of 1000 units. THE QUEST/THE TRUE STORY OF ESKIMO NELL will begin shipping on the week of February 5th, 2018
