ASM_49_500.jpg

Zitat

COLPO-ROVENTE1.jpg

Zitat

Quartet Records presents an expanded, fully restored edition of cult Piero Piccioni score for the 1970 psychedelic thriller COLPO ROVENTE.

Production-designer–turned-director Piero Zuffi made this bizarre film set in the seedy underbelly of Off-Broadway productions, hippie communities, S&M bars and bike gangs. The story follows a serial killer on the loose and an investigator looking into an heiress’ kidnapping. With the help of editor Franco Arcalli, the movie was reconfigured into an effective fever dream with a non-linear structure.

Considering the film’s complicated postproduction, it’s surprising how well Piero Piccioni’s score is integrated into the picture. The wonderful kaleidoscope of psychedelic oddness favors the composer’s jazz roots and strong percussion work, but also features delightful bursts of source music as well as the self-contained brilliance of the occasional set pieces—including background scores for the experimental productions of the Off-Broadway world.

This highly addictive score, originally released on LP by RCA in 1970 and reissued twice on CD with extra tracks (on the Easy Tempo label in the nineties, and later on the Beatball label in South Korea) has been expanded to the max for this Quartet release. Chris Malone has restored and mastered the audio from crisp-sounding, first-generation master tapes recently discovered in the Piccioni estate and transferred at 96Kh. Produced by Claudio Fuiano, the release contains liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score in great detail

IL-DIO-SOTTO-LA-PELLE1.jpg

Zitat

Quartet Records presents an expanded 2-CD release of Piero Piccioni’s classic score for the 1974 obscure mondo documentary IL DIO SOTTO LA PELLE, directed by Folco Quilici, Carlo Alberto Pinelli and Bruno Modugno.

Piccioni wrote a varied and colorful score packed with rich vibes ranging from exotic to progressive rock, with memorable percussion work and hypnotic organ effects. Orchestrated and conducted by the composer, the score features contributions by Edda Dell’Orso, the choir of Alessandro Alessandroni and, above all, three sumptuous songs performed by Catherine Howe.

Previously released in the nineties on the Easy Tempo label in hard-to-find LP and CD versions, and later expanded in 2020 by Sonor Records in a 2-LP edition, we can considerer this Quartet CD release the most complete edition so far, with 125 minutes of music, including all the music recorded by Piccioni for the film, and even the instrumental-only tracks for the songs. Mastered by Claudio Fuiano from original stereo session tapes, with additional restoration by Chris Malone, the album includes a full-color booklet featuring liner notes by film music journalist Marco Ferretti and an exclusive interview with Catherine Howe.

Von Howlin' Wolf Records kommen zum Jahresende auch noch mal drei neue CDs: Richard Einhorns Score für den Horrorfilm Don't Go in the House (1979) sowie JeanMichelNoirs Good Tidings (2016) und Semih Tareens Holiday Hell (2019).

dontgointhehouse_cover250.jpg

Zitat

Howlin’ Wolf Records is proud to present Richard Einhorn's unnerving score for the 1979 shocker DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE.

The score for DON’T GO IN THE HOUSE is another innovative electronic composition from the classically trained composer Richard Einhorn. Einhorn used a sophisticated array of synthesizers from the era to create the foreboding atmosphere required for the horrors awaiting in the Kohler house. The story illustrates, with uncomfortably disturbing realism, the destructive and often terrifying consequences that manifest as a part of the cyclic natures of trauma and abuse.

DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE features the original archival recording, remastered by Ian Zapczynski from the original master tapes, including several bonus tracks from Richard Einhorn’s personal archives. With liner notes titled “Conversations with Richard Einhorn” by Album Producer Ian Zapczynski, the packaging is rich with a vibrant pallet of colors brought to life like a wildfire through original cover art by renowned artist Simon Sherry, all beautifully crafted with packaging designs and startling imagery by acclaimed Howlin’ Wolf Records Art Director Luis Miguel Rojas.

Howlin’ Wolf Records is excited to present JeanMichelNoir's wickedly delightful score GOOD TIDINGS - filled with mayhem and menacing holiday cheer. Evil Santas everywhere, beware, there is a new and more terrifying breed of unremorseful and sinister Santa à la the Christmas shocker GOOD TIDINGS! To up the ante, there is not one, but three, twisted masked killers to flee - a trinity of terror! The most malevolent Father Christmas of the troupe is none other than composer JeanMichelNoir, indulging one of his other creative passions as an actor, filmmaker, and storyteller. He discusses the intent to make a film that was "straight-up unapologetic horror" with a performance as the "scariest bad guy" possible. There is no spoiler in proclaiming, mission accomplished!

JeanMichelNoir, self-described as the "playful demon," is one of the creative entities who live within Liverpool artist, composer, musician, filmmaker, and actor Liam Ashcroft. Ashcroft is a prolific artist and creator who moves seamlessly between the inner creative forces that drive him. Be it JeanMichelNoir (the composer), Mugsmasher (the political activist), or Liam Ashcroft (the master for channeling all internal creative forces), the output is always an unbridled fury of fierce originality!

GOOD TIDINGS has the progressive operatic feel of Oldfield's "Tubular Bells," and JeanMichelNoir credits Goldsmith's "Ave Satani" as an influence, using his voice to chant woeful Latin-translated phrases to fashion a "scary carol." Whatever the influences, they are molded, twisted, and contorted into a form that is distinctively JeanMichelNoir.

GOOD TIDINGS features a 16-page booklet with liner notes by composer JeanMichelNoir and beautiful original cover art by Austin Hinderliter (Creepy Carves). The packaging is exquisitely designed by acclaimed Howlin' Wolf Records Art Director Luis Miguel Rojas weaving a tapestry of psycho-Santa promo shots from the film with vibrant imagery of the composer in a colorful giallo-infused style.

holidayhell_cover250.jpg

Howlin’ Wolf Records proudly presents HOLIDAY HELL, a beautifully crafted holiday anthology score by composer and filmmaker Semih Tareen. HOLIDAY HELL stars horror icon Jeffrey Combs, as the mysterious shop owner of the Nevertold Casket Co. - Antiques & Curiosities, in addition to veteran actor and brother to Bill Murray, Joel Murray, as a down on his luck Santa.

HOLIDAY HELL is a clever blend of anthology-storytelling and horror, with a touch of black comedy, co-written by Jeff Ferrell and Jeff Vigil - both directing anthology segments in association with a troupe of collaborating directors. A shop full of macabre novelties helps spin an elaborate web with each tale of terror introduced by Jeffrey Combs, the shop curator of oddities.

Semih Tareen is an accomplished, award-winning composer with more than 18 years of experience scoring symphonic and midi scores, who happens to have a fascinating side gig as a research scientist with a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology - a true right brain/left brain wizard! He studied with two-time Emmy winning composer Hummie Man at the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program. The composer is also an accomplished filmmaker, having received acclaim for a short Bava-inspired giallo he made while attending the Seattle Film Institute, cleverly titled "Yellow." For HOLIDAY HELL, the composer had to craft a score to harmoniously connect each segment while honoring the unique musical narrative needed to accompany each twisted tale. Included as a bonus on the CD, to add a touch of spooky ambiance, is a suite of vintage carols used in the film.

HOLIDAY HELL features a 20-page booklet with liner notes by writer/director Jeff Ferrell and composer Semih Tareen along with beautiful original cover art by Chris Barnes (BRUTAL Posters). The packaging is magnificently stylized by longtime Howlin' Wolf Records Art Director Luis Miguel Rojas.

IL-BIDONE.jpg

Quartet Records presents a greatly expanded CD of an early Nino Rota/Federico Fellini collaboration.

Coming hot off the heels of LA STRADA, Fellini’s IL BIDONE (1955), starring Broderick Crawford, was considerably less of a hit than its predecessor. The film tells the story of a trio of con men who are each faced with the consequences of their unlawful action. After a series of humiliating and humbling encounters, former members of the gang try to change their ways—but not all of them will survive to enjoy their newfound way of life.

The score by Nino Rota is as versatile as his later Fellini collaborations with a series of great themes that are already classics in the pantheon of the Rota-Fellini collaboration. Ranging from the carnival marches to a film noir-inspired theme that matches the darker tone as well as the background of star Broderick Crawford, the score also includes beautiful source cues composed for the New Year’s Eve party. As a special treat, the scene with Augusto and his daughter actually reuses the main theme from a previous Fellini movie, THE WHITE SHEIK.

This expanded edition presents more than one hour of the original score (mostly chronologically sequenced) on Disc One, and the short original 1955 album program and alternates on Disc Two. Restored and mastered by Chris Malone from first-generation master tapes courtesy of Gruppo Sugar. The package includes liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing both the background of the film and the score.

MADDALENA.jpg

Quartet Records presents a 50th-anniversary remastered edition of the innovative, cult-classic score by Ennio Morricone, a key work which launched one of the composer’s best known themes.

Directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz in 1971, MADDALENA is a one-off venture of the Polish director into the territory of Italian cinema. Starring Lisa Gastoni as the title character and Eric Woofe as the priest whose faith she tests, the movie is an erotic drama focused on poetic sex scenes, psychedelic flashbacks and deviant erotic games all mixed into a beautiful fever dream.

MADDALENA is a relatively obscure entry in the Morricone filmography despite the importance of launching “Chi mai,” one of the composer best-known cues and famous worldwide a decade later when it was re-used in the film LE PROFESSIONEL. While the score itself is more psychedelic with lots of percussion, vocalization and experimentation, the self-contained “Chi mai” turned out to be an overnight success that was eventually turned into a song as well—eventually recorded in multiple languages.

Previously released several times on CD by Saimel in Spain and Rambling Records in Japan, this new edition features the original album program produced by Morricone himself for the General Music LP, followed by bonus tracks and alternate versions, including both film and single versions of “Chi mai” plus vocal versions by Lisa Gastoni. The version recorded by Morricone for the maxi-single “Disco 78” appears at the end of the program.

This anniversary edition, produced by Claudio Fuiano, has been rebuilt and mastered by Chris Malone from recently discovered first-generation album master tapes. The full-color booklet includes in-depth liner notes by Gergely Hubai, discussing in detail the film and score.

200 MOTELS 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION AVAILABLE DECEMBER 17 VIA ZAPPA RECORDS/UMe

Los Angeles – November 19, 2021 – Ahead of the December 17th release of Frank Zappa’s 200 Motels 50th Anniversary Edition, the Zappa Trust and UMe are giving another glimpse into some of the extraordinary unreleased and rare material unearthed from FZ’s vault that will be available on the monstrous new six-disc box set that boasts a new remaster of the original soundtrack, demos, studio outtakes, work mixes, interviews and movie ads, along with newly discovered dialog reels, revealing an early audio edit of the film. Also included in the collection is a wealth of never-before-heard audio documentary material surrounding the project.

Available today is an exciting, previously unreleased alternate version of “Magic Fingers (Version B, Mix Outtake),” from the demo sessions, recorded in August 1970 at Whitney Studios, and featured on Disc 2 alongside a handful of outtakes and alternate takes of other soundtrack standouts like “Tell Me You Love Me,” “Road Ladies,” “What Will This Morning Bring Me This Evening,” and “What Will This Evening Bring Me This Morning.” “Magic Fingers (Version B, Mix Outtake)” starts off like the original but then takes a wild detour halfway through, trading Zappa’s extended guitar workout for a rollicking mix of rock and roll motifs crammed into an exhilarating three minutes.

This latest outtake comes on the heels of the recently released non-music track, “What Is 200 Motels,” culled from the 200 Motels commercial and trailer recording session, recorded in November 1971, and featuring Frank Zappa, Howard Kaylan, Mark Volman and Jim Pons parodying a news interview about the surrealistic documentary film. This track, available on Disc 5: 200 Motels – Alternates and Outtakes,

followed the October release of “Mystery Roach” (Dialog Protection Reel) taken from Disc 3, which houses the “Dialog Protection Reels.” Found in the Vault, these work in progress tracks reveal an early version of the movie. The music mixes are in mono and were created before Zappa went into Whitney Studios for over-dubbing and sweetening.

PRE-ORDER 200 MOTELS 50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Fully authorized by the Zappa Trust and produced by Ahmet Zappa and Zappa Vaultmeister Joe Travers, the expansive 200 Motels 50th Anniversary Edition is a definitive super deluxe six-disc box set of the beloved, yet hard to find, soundtrack that has been lovingly assembled in celebration of the film and soundtrack’s golden anniversary. The six-disc set will be housed in a 64-page hardcover book in a handsome 12” x 12” slipcase. The packaging replicates the original booklet updated with revealing new liner notes from Pamela Des Barres, Ruth Underwood and Joe Travers, as well as Patrick Pending’s essay from the 1997 reissue, and is chock full of motion picture artwork, stills and images, from the film and its making, many which have never been seen before. This must-have collector’s release will also include a custom “200 Motels” keychain and Do-No-Disturb motel door hanger and a full-size replica of the original movie poster. Years in the making, all the audio was meticulously identified and transferred over several years as Travers dug through the Vault to create a new high resolution 96K/24B digital patchwork stereo master from the original analog tapes. The Vault material was mastered by John Polito in 2021.

Discs 1 and 2 feature the remastered soundtrack with the second half of the second disc consisting of demos and demo outtakes; two of the many highlights from these sessions include unreleased alt mixes and alt takes of the Chunga’s Revenge tunes, “Road Ladies” and “Tell Me You Love Me.” Discs 3 and 4 contain the “Dialog Protection Reels,” which reveal an early version of the movie, while Disc 5 and 6 present unreleased outtakes, alternates and historical nuggets sequenced in the order of the original shooting script, the way Zappa originally envisioned before he ran into time and budget constraints. These illuminating discs reveal Zappa’s original intent for the film for the first time.

The remastered 200 Motels soundtrack, by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, will also be reissued on vinyl as a 2LP pressed on 180-gram black vinyl and also as a limited edition red vinyl pressing on 180-gram vinyl, which will only be available exclusively through Zappa.com, uDiscoverMusic.com or SoundofVinyl.com. Both will be pressed by Optimal Media in Germany and be the first time the album has been available on vinyl in decades. The soundtrack will also be released on 2CD and all formats will include a smaller version of the movie poster. Additionally, the entire Super Deluxe Edition box set will be available digitally for streaming and download, marking the soundtrack’s digital debut, in both standard and hi-res audio. Pre-order for all configurations is available now.

Released in October 1971, Frank Zappa’s “200 Motels” was a miraculous feat, a cinematic collision of the venerated musician and composer’s kaleidoscopic musical and visual worlds that brought together Zappa and his band, The Mothers, Ringo Starr as Zappa – as “a large dwarf” – Keith Moon as a perverted nun, Pamela Des Barres in her acting debut, noted thespian Theodore Bikel, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and an incredible assortment of characters (both on screen and off) for a “surrealistic documentary” about the bizarre life of a touring musician. A heady, psychedelic stew of low and high brow art forms, the film, written by Zappa and co-directed by him and Tony Palmer, mixed together irreverent comedic skits, madcap satire, eye-popping animation and virtuosic on-screen musical performances from both The Mothers and the RPO for a fascinating and free-wheeling multimedia extravaganza. Shot in just 10 days with a budget of around $650,000 from distributor United Artists, “200 Motels” was one of the first movies to be filmed entirely on videotape and Zappa and crew pushed the envelope of the burgeoning new medium’s possibilities, mostly notably through its use of spectacular – and at the time – state-of-the-art visual effects. Described by Zappa as “at once a reportage of real events and an extrapolation of them… other elements include ‘conceptual by-products’ of the extrapolated ‘real event’ … In some ways the contents of the film are autobiographical,” “200 Motels” was hailed by the Los Angeles Times as a “a stunning achievement” with “just the right touch of insanity,” and the “Zaniest piece of filmusical fantasy-comedy since The Beatles' ‘A Hard Day's Night’” by Daily Variety.

The music, and its corresponding soundtrack, was equally diverse, a wild pastiche of avant garde rock and orchestral compositions interspersed with dialog from the film. Up until that time, compositions like the finale piece, “Strictly Genteel,” were some of the most ambitious material ever written and recorded by Zappa. The band in the film and on the soundtrack consisted of Frank Zappa (guitar & bass), Mark Volman (vocals & special material), Howard Kaylan (vocals & special material), Ian Underwood (keyboards & winds), Aynsley Dunbar (drums), George Duke (keyboards & trombone), Martin Lickert (bass), Jimmy Carl Black (vocals), and Ruth Underwood (orchestra drum set), not to mention the aforementioned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In true Zappa fashion as he wrote in the album’s original liner notes, “This music is not in the same order as in the movie. Some of this music is in the movie. Some of this music is not in the movie. Some of the music that’s in the movie is not in the album. Some of the music that was written for the movie is not in the movie or the album. All of this music was written for the movie, over a period of 4 years. Most of it (60%) was written in motels while touring.”

Putting together this 50th anniversary edition was a labor intensive process that bore fruit at nearly every turn as Travers dug through Zappa’s expansive archives to put together this exhaustive edition. As Travers writes in the liners, “During this search and seizure mission, I was able to unearth a multitude of audio treasures from a very large number of tapes. Original demos, session outtakes, alternate mixes and versions, and even dialog reels that captured an edit of the film that predates the final assembly which eventually made it to theaters everywhere in 1971.” Amongst the gems discovered include a number of ¼-inch reel-to-reel tapes that were made at Trident Studios during February of ’71, which  contain rough mixes of nearly everything that was recorded on multi-track. As Travers explains, “they reflect raw performances, as they happened before FZ would get a hold of the multi-track masters and bring them to Whitney Studios in Glendale for over-dubs and sweetening. The Trident tapes allow us to hear music that did not make the film, or the final soundtrack album. They also helped us to reconstruct pieces of music like ‘The Pleated Gazelle’ or ‘What’s The Name Of Your Group?’ into their full sequences per the score. Over the years, even Frank himself forgot the sheer amount of music that actually did get recorded. All of the archiving for this 50th Anniversary set has produced incredible amounts of content that we would never had known existed otherwise.”

Dragon's Domain/BSX zum Jahresende.

NRNS2_Presentation_Pack_1024x1024.jpg?v=

Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents the original motion picture soundtrack to NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2, composed by David Spear for the 1987 action film directed by the legendary Corey Yuen (FONG SAI YUK 1 & 2, THE TRANSPORTER) and starring Loren Avedon, Max Thayer, Matthias Hues and Cynthia Rothrock.

Released in 1987 following the unexpected success of NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER the year before, which happened to include the theatrical debut of Belgian screen actor, martial artist, and fight choreographer Jean-Claude Van Damme and also directed by Corey Yuen, NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2 was intended to be a direct sequel to the first film but actually began life as a different film called RAGING THUNDER. When the original film’s stars chose not to return, the story and characters were altered to form a completely new narrative. Even though no elements of the story remained to connect it to the original film, the title was changed to NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2, or NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2: RAGING THUNDER. The film was also released in parts of the world as KARATE TIGER 2.

The story begins in Vietnam, where American college student Scott Wylde (Avedon) arrives looking for his former teacher and best friend Mac (Thayer). A former lover of Jarvis’ named Terry (Rothrock) tells Scott that Mac is likely in Patpong, a seedy area of Bangkok, Thailand. After dinner with his fiancé Sulin, a gang of tough types crash into Scott’s room kidnapping Sulin. Scott is detained by local authorities and sent to the airport to board a plane for Singapore. He escapes and heads to Patpong, where he locates and recruits Jarvis to help him invade Cambodia to rescue his fiancé. Scott learns that Sulin’s father was a famous Vietnamese general who, for the sake of his family, reneged on a lucrative deal with the Soviet militia. The next day Scott and Jarvis are ambushed by Thai police; however, Terry swoops in and rescues the pair in a helicopter. Scott, Mac, and Terry arrive in Cambodia threatening all out war in hopes of rescuing poor Sulin.

The music for NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2 was composed by David Spear, a prolific composer, conductor and orchestrator. Spear composed the bulk of his music for NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2 using piano/keyboards, bass, guitar, drums, and an EVI—an electronic valve instrument using the Boehm fingering system utilized by most woodwind instruments. Spear and multiple reels of tapes were flown up to Vancouver along with all of the hand-written orchestrations and hand-copied parts for the final orchestra sessions.

David Spear began his career orchestrating many film scores for Elmer Bernstein including AIRPLANE, ANIMAL HOUSE, HEAVY METAL and GHOSTBUSTERS. After his Broadway debut as Music Director of MERLIN, THE MAGICAL MUSICAL, Spear wrote scores for three Academy Award nominated films: RAINBOW WAR, BALLET ROBOTIQUE, and THE COURAGE TO CARE. He composed the music for the Emmy Award winning National Geographic documentary, SURVIVING EVEREST. One of his first major scores was for the 1981 vampire thriller FEAR NO EVIL, composed in collaboration with the film’s writer/director Frank LaLoggia. He led the Indianapolis Symphony for the 2008 premiere of THE LANGSTON HUGHES PROJECT featuring Ice-T and the Ron McCurdy Quartet. A dedicated educator, Spear served as faculty at Berklee College of Music (1991-1995), USC Thornton School of Music (1995-2006), NYU (2009-2013), and at Portland State as 2017 Artist-in-Residence. His work in academia and industry thrives on decades of creative collaboration with many notable artists, directors and scholars.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2, featuring music composed by David Spear for the very first time on compact disc. The music has been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland and the liner notes have been written by author and composer Brian Satterwhite, with the participation of the composer.

NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2 is a limited edition release of 500 units. NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2, VOLUME 2 is expected to begin shipping the week of January 10th, 2022. Composer David Spear will sign the first 50 copies of NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER 2 sold through the website.

From the first season, ‘Dreams In The Witch House’ and from the second season, ‘Valerie On The Stairs’ and ‘The Washingtonians’.

From the first season of MASTERS OF HORROR, ‘Dreams In The Witch House’ was adapted from the short story by H.P. Lovecraft and aired in November 2005. This episode reunited composer Richard Band with director Stuart Gordon, continuing their collaboration on Lovecraft material that began with the theatrical release RE-ANIMATOR in 1985. This episodes tells the story of Walter Gilman, a college student renting an old room in a boarding house who discovers a sinister plot by otherworldly forces to sacrifice his neighbor Frances’ baby, Danny to unlock the ancient Necronomicon.

From the second season of MASTERS OF HORROR, ‘Valerie On The Stairs’ was adapted from a short story by Clive Barker and aired in December 2006. This episode was directed by Mick Garris. Rob Hanisey, an unsuccessful writer, rents a room in the Highberger House to write a novel and discovers there are fates worse than literary anonymity when he encounters Valerie,a mysterious woman and a stalking demon spawned from the imagination of three of the tenants.

Also from the second season, ‘The Washingtonians’, from a short story by Bentley Little and directed by Peter Medak (THE CHANGELING). In this episode, Mike Franks finds his family in danger after he discovers a strange letter hidden behind a portrait of George Washington which contains a shocking secret about the United States of America's founding fathers, in which a secret society is hell-bent on keeping quiet at any cost.

Richard Band was born in Los Angeles on December 28, 1953. He is the son of film producer-director-writer Albert Band (THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE – screen adaptation), brother to producer-distributor Charles Band and uncle to young rock star Alex Band of the rock group ‘The Calling’. Shortly after his brother Charles had formed his first movie company, Richard decided to take a break from music and began to work as an assistant director on some of his films. He then went from assistant director to production manager, to associate producer and finally producer on over 13 films. Richard has since gone on to score over 75 feature films and many television productions including multiple episodes of STARGATE SG-1, WALKER: TEXAS RANGER and Disney's SING ME A STORY series.

Richard has composed the music for more than 10 interactive computer/video games over the years and has had many soundtracks that have been released of his film works. Richard has also scored many documentaries including the award-winning series’ MOST DECORATED, BRUTE FORCE and WEAPONS OF WAR and has also contributed much music to other series’ like THE REAL WEST, CIVIL WAR JOURNALS and BIOGRAPHIES. His experience over the years has brought him to record over 22 film scores with internationally renowned orchestras such as THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA, THE LONDON SYMPHONY and THE ROME PHILHARMONIC. He has also had his music recorded in Prague, Romania, Croatia and Munich. In more recent years, Richard has also enjoyed scoring a variety of family and comedy films for Viacom and Paramount Pictures as well as hundreds of animated vignettes for the WB kid's network all of which were scored with orchestra. His musical talents can also be heard on several amusement park rides including ALIENS - THE RIDE as well as several Vegas venues. Among the many interactive games Richard has scored the music for STAR TREK, WATERWORLD, CASPER, STONEKEEP, DECENT UNDER MOUNTAIN, CLAYFIGHTER and INVICTUS: THE SHADOW OF OLYMPUS.

Craig_Safan_vol1_Presentation_Pack_1024x

Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents THE CRAIG SAFAN COLLECTION, Volume 1, featuring music composed by Craig Safan from two projects in his extensive filmography, for the first time.

The 1980s were a busy period for Safan. He scored more than three dozen projects during the decade, ranging from feature films, television series and made-for-TV movies. During the middle of this period, Safan began exploring scoring movies by combining orchestras with electronics.

Released in 1987, TIMESTALKERS tells the story of a twentieth-century college professor (William Devane) who is sought out by a woman of the twenty-sixth century (Lauren Hutton) to help her locate a power-crazed scientist (Klaus Kinski) who has left the future to change a significant event in the past in order to alter the events of their future. The manhunt stretches from the year 2586 back to 1886. Directed by Michael Schultz and scripted by Brian Clemens, Safan provided an electronic score using a variety of 1980’s vintage synthesizers, including Synclavier, Yamaha DX7, and Roland Juno-106.

From 1980, DIE LAUGHING tells the story of Pinsky,a San Francisco cab driver (Robbie Benson) and an aspiring singer (Linda Grovenor) who become tangled up in a plot to kidnap a monkey that has memorized a scientific formula with the potential to destroy the world. The formula shows how to turn atomic waste into plutonium. Pinsky finds himself framed for murder and chased all over town by the people who are trying to get their hands on the formula. With DIE LAUGHING, Safan provided a thoroughly orchestral score, recorded with an ensemble of 50 musicians at Evergreen Studios in Los Angeles.

Emmy-nominated and eight-time ASCAP award-winning composer Craig Safan has scored more than one hundred feature films, television and documentaries, has had more than 50 soundtrack albums of his music produced, as well as having three original albums of his own impressionistic music released. He’s been commissioned to compose for ballet as well as for live performance of silent films and was given the Poledouris Film Music Legend Award at the 2014 International Film Music Festival in Cordoba, Spain.

Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents THE CRAIG SAFAN COLLECTION, Volume 1, featuring the world premiere soundtrack releases of TIMESTALKERS and DIE LAUGHING, featuring Craig Safan’s music mastered by James Nelson of Digital Outland. David_Michael_Frank_1_Presentation_Pack_

Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE DAVID MICHAEL FRANK COLLECTION, Volume 1, featuring music composed by David Michael Frank. This first collection of David Michael Frank’s film music exhibits three scores from the mid 80’s and mid ‘90s, showing three very distinctly different styles and demonstrating different flavors of the composer’s expertise.

Released in 1985, CODE OF SILENCE was the first action film scored by David Michael Frank, and is also recognized as one of action star Chuck Norris’ best films. This was the fourth film for director Andrew Davis and Frank would collaborate with him again on his next film, ABOVE THE LAW, which launched action star Steven Seagal’s career and also increased the demand for the composer’s talents for scoring action films. Norris plays Eddie Cusack, a Chicago cop who gets caught in the middle of a gang war while his own comrades shun him because he wants to take down a corrupt fellow officer. Henry Silva has a memorable role as the film’s villain and would also return to play the villain in ABOVE THE LAW. Frank’s score for CODE OF SILENCE is a mix of sequencer material the director was fond of but most of the score is in the style of hip fusion, mid ‘80s style, with a rhythm section featuring some of Hollywood’s hottest musicians (George Doering on electric guitar, Neil Stubenhaus on bass, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, and on keyboards Mike Lang, Randy Kerber, and Mike Boddicker.

Released in 1996, COSMIC VOYAGE was a short documentary film produced in the IMAX format, directed by Bayley Silleck and narrated by Morgan Freeman. The film, presented by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum, sought to explore our place among the ever-expanding universe. The score was recorded at Skywalker Ranch with a 90-piece orchestra.

Also included, from 1994, music not from a film but a corporate event, from the BOEING 777 ROLLOUT. When the first of a new series of airliner is built, Boeing puts on a PR show, and in 1994, the 777 was their newest airplane. The rollout was a 10-minute event to present the new plans to the public, and Boeing wanted to make it the most spectacular one to date. Frank was hired to compose a ten-minute fanfare and suite for the rollout, which was a one-day presentation with 105,000 people gathered into Boeing’s large aircraft hangar.

David Michael Frank was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where he studied classical piano and composition at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. After graduating from Northwestern University, Frank moved to New York, where he became Broadway’s youngest conductor. After six years in New York, he relocated to California to pursue a career in film composition, where he’s scored numerous films of various types and over 200 episodes of television over more than forty years in media composition.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE DAVID MICHAEL FRANK COLLECTION, Volume 1, featuring music composed by David Michael Frank for several projects from his filmography, digitally mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland, featuring liner notes written by author Randall Larson, with the participation of the composer.

Teenage_Exorcist_Witch_Academy_Presentat

Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com presents music composed by Chuck Cirino for TEENAGE EXORCIST and WITCH ACADEMY, two horror comedies from the composer’s extensive filmography. TEENAGE EXORCIST was written by Brinke Stevens and Ted Newsom, from a story by Fred Olen Ray, starring Brinke Stevens, Eddie Deezen, Oliver Darrow, John Henry Richardson, Tom Shell, Elena Sahagun, Robert Quarry and Michael Berryman. WITCH ACADEMY was directed by Fred Olen Ray, written by Mark Thomas McGee and stars Suzanne Ager, Priscilla Barnes, Michelle Bauer, Veronica Carothers, Ruth Collins, Don Dowe, John Henry Richardson and Robert Vaughn.

Released in 1991, TEENAGE EXORCIST tells the story of Diane, a neurotic, repressed grad student who moves into a cursed mansion and finds herself possessed by the house’s demonic master. Transformed into a raven-haired seductress, Diane begins to search for a virgin sacrifice for her master. Her sister and brother-in-law, along with an Irish priest, her boyfriend, and a pizza delivery boy arrive and try to save Diane and exorcise her demon. Directed by Grant Waldman and written by Brinke Stevens (who also stars) from a story by Fred Olen Ray, TEENAGE EXORCIST began as a project Ray intended to make. Having known Chuck Cirino from two of those previous three movies he’d worked on with Ray (as well as his directorial debut earlier that same year, THE CHANNELER), producer Grant Waldman brought him in to compose the film’s score. Cirino, an expert electronic musician and composer, had recently added an Roland D50 synthesizer to his array of electronic equipment, and used it for the first time on this score.

Released in 1995, WITCH ACADEMY, also known as LITTLE DEVILS, tells the story of Leslie Perkins, who is trying to pledge to an exclusive college sorority while the other members come up with twisted new ways to humiliate her and keep her out. However, the Devil has other plans for Leslie and helps transform her into one of his emissaries of temptation. But why has the Devil taken an interest in her? WITCH ACADEMY was the eleventh film Cirino had scored for Fred Olen Ray as director.

Chuck Cirino did not start his career as a composer, but rather as a programmer in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania for a Public Access cable TV station, where he learned how to create TV shows by himself, without a crew. In his spare time, he experimented with the station’s video equipment and created a series of genre productions that allowed him the opportunity to learn how to incorporate special effects into his work. After relocating to California, Cirino transitioned into directing high-end special effects television commercials. His first work as composer was for the 1980 cult film GYPSY ANGELS, which starred Vanna White and Richard Roundtree. Since then he has scored films for Roger Corman, directed music videos for bands like Earth, Wind & Fire and The Dickies’ KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, and has recorded over 40 music soundtracks for feature films including SORCERESS, HARD TO DIE, TRANSYLVANIA TWIST, and many others. Most recently, he has scored A DOGGONE CHRISTMAS, A DOGGONE HOLLYWOOD and A DOGGONE ADVENTURE.

Chuck has worked as a producer, director, filmmaker, videographer, animator, special effects technician, editor, and composer. Buysoundtrax Digital presents an exclusive digital release of Dennis McCarthy's score to the motion picture LAST PLANE OUT starring Jan-Michael Vincent (AIRWOLF) and Julie Carmen. As Nicaragua falls to the Sandinistas, reporter Jack Cox (Jan-Michael Vincent) must get himself and two colleagues to safety. Their route to the airport in time for the last plane out of the country proves to be a dangerous one.

Among the most dependable composers in the business, Dennis McCarthy’s career has ranged from being a session keyboardist and musical director for Glen Campbell to composing Emmy award-winning scores for television’s “Star Trek” franchise. For more than 35 years, McCarthy has been an in-demand composer for films and television, scoring such shows as “V: The TV Series” (1984-85), “Dynasty” (1985-89), “McGyver” (1985-91), “Birdland” (1994), as well as made-for-TV movies such as “V: The Final Battle” (1984), “Overkill: The Aileen Wuornos Story” (1992), “In His Life: The John Lennon Story” (2000), and “A Modern Twain Story: The Prince and the Pauper” (2007). McCarthy gained prominence as one of the regular composers on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” beginning in 1987, and has continued in the same capacity for three subsequent Trek series (“Deep Space Nine,” “Voyager,” and “Enterprise”), as well as the seventh Star Trek feature film, “Generations” in 1994 and related media such as video games and shorts involving “Star Trek” characters. McCarthy’s efforts have gained him six Emmy Award nominations – and two wins, first in 1991 for his dramatic score to the “Unification, Part 1” episode of “Star Trek: the Next Generation,” and again in 1993 for his Main Title to “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”

Am 14. Januar veröffentlichten Omnivore Recordings eine um zwei Tracks verlängerte Fassung des von Indie-Musiker Jeff Tweedy komponierten Scores zu Ethan Hawkes Regiedebüt Chelsea Walls.

Soundtrack from Academy Award-Nominated actor Ethan Hawke’s 2001 film.

The same year of his Oscar®-nominated performance in Training Day, Ethan Hawke made his full-length film directorial debut with Chelsea Walls (starring Kris Kristofferson, Uma Thurman, Vincent D’Onofrio, Robert Sean Leonard, and more). A fan of Wilco, Hawke approached Jeff Tweedy about scoring the film, and Tweedy agreed.

Around this time, Tweedy had collaborated with musician and producer Jim O’Rourke (Sonic Youth, Stereolab) for a special live performance. As fate would have it, O’Rourke had been working Glenn Kotche, and O’Rourke introducing Tweedy to Kotche would lay the groundwork for the trio’s work together on the debut album by their band, Loose Fur. Tweedy also asked Kotche to work with him on an improvised soundtrack to the movie he had agreed to score. The relationships moved past Loose Fur and the Chelsea Walls soundtrack. Wilco was in the process of a creative sea change, the result of which would be the modern-day masterpiece, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Kotche joined Wilco and O’Rourke mixed Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

The soundtrack to Chelsea Walls featured improvised instrumentals by Tweedy and Kotche, as well as vocal performances from the film’s Robert Sean Leonard (whom Hawke met when they both worked on the film Dead Poet’s Society), Steve Zahn (Reality Bites, That Thing You Do!), jazz legend “Little” Jimmy Scott, plus contributions from Billy Bragg, and Wilco themselves.

Two decades later, this influential soundtrack returns, not only with two previously unissued bonus tracks, but for the first time as a double-vinyl LP, including an online exclusive colored vinyl variant. (www.omnivorerecordings.com). The bonus tracks include Leonard’s performance of Wilco’s “Promising” previously only available in the film, and an extended version of Tweedy & Kotche’s “Finale.” The packaging contains new photos, new and original liners from Hawke, a remembrance from Kotche, and an interview between Tweedy and Grammy®-winning set producer Cheryl Pawelski.

Chelsea Walls is a pivotal piece in the creative development of Tweedy and Wilco as they emerged into one of the most important bands of our time. Critically, it revisits the creative burst that would lead to one of the first true masterpieces of the 21st Century in Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

*NOTICE: This is a pre-order item, and it will be shipped in early 2022.

Soundtrack Magazine proudly presents a limited edition, world-premiere CD release of acclaimed French composer by the French composer Nicolas Errèra and the director JIANG Wen’s original motion picture soundtrack for China’s official entry to the 91st Academy Awards HIDDEN MAN.

Adapted from Zhang Beihai’s novel Xia Yin (“The Reclusive Hero”), the film shares Jiang Wen’s signature style of absurdism and dark humor. It seriocomically tells a romantic revenge story that took place on the brink of the Second Sino-Japanese War. It’s also the final installment of Jiang’s action trilogy after 2010’s “Let the Bullets Fly” and 2014’s “Gone with the Bullets”. For the score, he invited Nicolas Errèra who had been active in Chinese-language films for almost a decade. Errèra's music for the film not only utilizes his skillful melody-writing, but also cleverly quotes and adapts from classical music materials which retains Jiang’s usual music choice for his film. At the same time, Errèra also introduced music elements from typical western films to collide with this Chinese action film, resulting in many unexpected surprises.

The album is supervised under composer Nicolas Errèra with music editing and sequencing. Director Jiang Wen provided his handwriting in calligraphy for the alternative cover art as well as director’s note. The liner notes which include analysis of the score was written by Xinkai Sun after his interview with Errèra.

This is a limited edition of 500 units, with gold stamping numbering.
