Across The Universe

The original movie musical Across The Universe, directed by Julie Taymor (Broadway's "The Lion King," Frida) and penned by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais (The Commitments), brings not only the music of the Beatles but also the characters and stories in their timeless songs--performed by the actors in the film--to the big screen.

Across The Universe: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Interscope Records) will be released September 18, 2007, in a single-CD edition of 16 selections and a two-CD Deluxe Edition with all 31 of the songs in the film in a special package, including an elaborate booklet boasting stills from the film. Revolution Studios' Across The Universe premieres September 14.

Every song in the film and on the soundtrack is a Beatles song. A love story set against the backdrop of the 1960s, turbulent years of anti-war protest, mind exploration and rock 'n' roll, Across The Universe is centered on characters heard in those songs, with the lyrics often part of the dialogue. Utilizing live action plus animation and digital effects, Across The Universe moves from the dockyards of Liverpool to Greenwich Village, the riot-torn streets of Detroit to Vietnam.

The film's stars, headed by Jim Sturgess as Jude, Golden Globe nominee Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen) as Lucy, Joe Anderson as Max, Dana Fuchs as Sadie and Martin Luther as JoJo, as well as Salma Hayek, are joined by U2's Bono, rock icon Joe Cocker and well-known comedian Eddie Izzard. Bono performs "I Am The Walrus" as Dr. Robert (and "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" over the end titles); Cocker sings "Come Together" in three different guises--pimp, homeless man and hippie, and Izzard portrays circus ringleader Mr. Kite rendering "The Benefit Of Mr. Kite."

The other stars perform the Beatles' "Across The Universe," "Girl," "Helter Skelter," "Hold Me Tight," "All My Loving," "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "With A Little Help From My Friends," "It Won't Be Long," "I've Just Seen A Face," "Let It Be," "Why Don't We Do It In The Road," "If I Fell," "I Want You," "Dear Prudence," "Because," "Something," "Oh! Darling," "Strawberry Fields," "Revolution," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Happiness Is A Warm Gun," "Blackbird," "Hey Jude," "Don't Let Me Down" and "All You Need Is Love."

In addition, neo-psychedelic rockers The Secret Machines collaborated with Oscar-winning composer Elliot Goldenthal on their versions of "Flying" and "Blue Jay Way." Goldenthal also wrote the score to the film and produced and rearranged the rest of the 31 songs along with T-Bone Burnett and Matthias Gohl.

Taymor received two Tony Awards for her work on "The Lion King," making her the first woman to win a Tony for directing a musical. She then transitioned to movies, directing Titusin 1999 and Fridain 2002. The lattergarnered six Academy Award nominations and won two, including for Best Original Score (with Goldenthal).

Ich glaube das hängt eher vom Kino ab als vom Film... (ich bin mir allerdings nicht sicher).

Am 15. September startet der Film in den USA. Ich habe die befürchtung, dass man Elliot Goldenthals Anteil mit der Lupe suchen muss, trotzdem soll man die Hoffnung nicht aufgeben. Was schonmal sicher ist: Es wird am 18. September ein Songalbum released. Darauf wird ein Song sein von dem es sicher ist dass Elliot Goldenthal es Produziert hat:

Ob Goldenthal an den Beatles Songs mit Arrangiert hat ist soweit nicht bekannt.

Sieht also bislang nicht sehr rosig aus für uns Goldenthal-Fans aber ich habe die Hoffnung immernoch nicht aufgegeben. Vielleicht kommt ja ein Score Album, ein 2. Song Album (wie bei Moulin Rouge) oder ein Isolated DVD Score (wie bei Titus).

Wieso zum Teufel hat der eigentlich diese Schrottfilme vertont (Batman) ! Oder ist das der Grund wieso er vieles mittlerweile ablehnt?

Lehnen Sie eigentlich viele Drehbücher ab?

Goldenthal: Ja, etwa 90 Prozent von dem, was ich angeboten bekomme.

Was ist der Grund für diese hohe Quote?

Goldenthal: Dass ich noch ein anderes Leben habe. Wenn ich mich drei bis fünf Monate einem Film widme, dann muss das ein Projekt sein, dass mich interessiert und wo ich mich ausdrücken kann. Im Fall der Batman-Filme war ich sehr interessiert an der Idee der Wegwerfkultur: wie kann ich etwas zu dieser Wegwerfkultur beitragen, was aber gleichzeitig künstlerisch wertvoll ist.

Ausserdem konnte er ja nicht ahnen, dass die Filme soo schlecht werden

Die Box ist gebraucht mit Versand teurer als alle 3 Scores einzeln (einzeln kosten sie mit Versant 21,50 €, in der Box 25).

Die Scores selbst lohnen sich auch, guck aber lieber vorher die Filme. (Alle 3 DVDs gibts zum Beispiel im Moment bei Media Markt für zusammen 10 €).

Da liegt der Hase im Pfeffer. Der bericht dieses praktikanten bestätigt z.b. meine große befürchtung: lobbyismus. Da heisst es: "Selbst bei Leuten wie z.B. Harry Gregson-Williams, der mittlerweile seine eigenen Studios in Venice Beach besitzt und somit eigentlich unabhängig von Hans Zimmers "Remote Control" - was für ein (hinter)sinniger Name! - zu sein scheint, ist dieser Einfluss doch noch zu spüren. So ist es offenbar tatsächlich so, dass Hans Zimmer selbst über Projekte von Komponisten, die eigentlich schon längst aus seinem Schatten herausgewachsen sind, seine schützende Hand ausbreitet: Was Hans Zimmer betreffend Musik für einen Film sagt, ist in Hollywood offenbar Gesetzt, welches anscheinend sogar Produzenten-Kolosse wie Jerry Bruckheimer akzeptieren."

Das ist doch völliger Schwachsinn. 1. Nur weil ein Komponist Stilmerkmale eines Komponisten übernimmt bei dem er gelernt hat, heißt das nicht, dass der Lehrer den Schüler wie mit einer Fernbedienung steuert. HG-W (Narnia und KoH ausgenommen) zum Beispiel klingt kaum noch nach Zimmer (und wehe jetzt sagt einer weil er Drumloops und Synthesizer benutzt klingt er wie Zimmer).

2. Nur weil ein Score nach einem bestimmten Komponisten klingt, heißt das lange nicht, dass der "Vorbild Komponist" den Komponisten gezwungen hat so wie er zu klingen.

Arrested Development - Achtung, die Show macht süchtig! Auf Deutsch aber leider nicht ganz so gelungen (dank fehlendem Wortwitz)

The Simpsons - In den neueren Staffeln hat die Serie sich leider verschlechtert bietet aber immernoch mehr als so manch eine andere Serie.

Familie Heinz Becker - Klassiker!

Blackadder - Tolles Beispiel für englischen Humor

War klar das HGW angeheuert wird.

Wieso das?

Ich hätte eigentlich nich mit HGW gerechnet. Eher mit Chris Tilton oder Christopher Lennertz.

Nach Michael Giacchino, Graeme Revell und Joel Goldsmith wird nun (laut soundtrack.net) Harry Gregson-Williams (zusammen mit Stephen Barton) einen Call of Duty-Teil vertonen. Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare wird der erste Call of Duty Teil sein der nicht im 2. Weltkrieg spielt.

Auf gametrailers.com kann man sich einige Gameplay-Videos und Trailer anschauen. Ob die Musik in diesen Clips von HGW ist, ist noch unklar. Sie klingen aber definitiv so als ob sie es wären.
