Stefan hatte zwar hier schon auf das Interview mit den beiden Produzenten Robert Townson von Varèse Sarabande und Lukas Kendall von Film Score Monthly aufmerksam gemacht, ich will aber hier nochmal auf das Interview verweisen:

Sure pop music might have millions of fans. But their enthusiasm is more than equaled by the few thousand die-hard soundtrack collectors from around the world, who have been selling out scores more than ever before. And with numerous releases for them to choose from on album and iTunes every week, the soundtrack market has seemingly become hotter than ever before. But if two men are behind this explosion, then it could easily be Robert Townson (pictured left, above) and Lukas Kendall. As the heads of Varese Sarabande Records and Film Score Monthly, Townson and Kendall have allowed listeners to hear the latest in Hollywood music, as well as giving an ear to its classic past, all to the tune of such albums as I am Legend, Lawrence of Arabia, Soylent Green and Obsession. And thats just naming a minute fraction of the many exceptionally produced albums between them.

Robert Townson would start his own Canadian company Masters Film Music before leaving for Vareses shores in his late teens. Making an auspicious debut at the label with Willie Dixons Ginger-Ale Afternoon and Jerry Goldsmiths The Final Conflict, Townson began a 19 year and counting career with Varese, not only releasing such topical soundtracks as Driving Miss Daisy. Elf and Lost, but also renewing an interest in landmark scores with his Varese Sarabande CD club, whose releases would include The Boys From Brazil, Die Hard and Ghostbusters. Townson also gave old scores a fresh new sound by producing new performances of Viva Zapata Something Wicked This Way Comes and Vertigo, albums which would be conducted by the likes of Jerry Goldsmith, Georges Delerue and Joel McNeely. Now with Varese celebrating its 30th anniversary, Townson is proudly counting up to his 1,000th album with the company.

As a native of Marthas Vineyard, 16 year-old Lukas Kendall may have felt cast off from the soundtrack action. But then his letter to Starlog Magazine led to a newsletter called Film Score Monthly, a publication that would be heard around the soundtrack world. With its often-controversial articles and reviews helping to create a new enthusiasm for composers and their work, a true community of soundtrack fans was born. Kendalls determination would take Film Score Monthly to its slick form as a nationally distributed magazine, all before finding a popular home on the internet. Yet if Kendall had a true soundtrack desire, it was to create his own. And with the release of John Barrys Deadfall, Kendalls Film Score Monthly cd series would begin releasing one golden and silver age score every month, a series that has included such landmark albums as The Towering Inferno, Fantastic Voyage, Heavy Metal and the Superman blue box of every score that accompanied the Christopher Reeve series.

Now two of the most talented, and prolific forces behind the soundtrack world join forces to discuss their love of film music, and the business realities behind it on a new edition of On the Score.
