Dragon’s Domain Records presents WALLENBERG: A HERO’S STORY, featuring music composed and conducted by Ernest Gold (EXODUS, TOM HORN, ON THE BEACH) for the 1985 television film directed by Lamont Johnson, based on the books written by Thurston B. Clarke, Gerald Green and Frederick E. Werbell, starring Richard Chamberlain, Alice Krige, Kenneth Colley, Melanie Mayron, Stuart Wilson, Bibi Andersson, David Robb, Mark Rylance, Ralph Arliss and Keve Hjelm.

WALLENBERG: A HERO’S STORY, broadcast over two evenings in April, 1985 tells the true story of Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who was instrumental in saving thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Nazi Holocaust. The film stars Richard Chamberlain as Raoul Wallenberg, Alice Krige as Baroness Lisl Kemeny, Kenneth Colley as Adolf Eichmann, Melanie Mayron as Sonja Kahn, Stuart Wilson as Baron Gabor Kemeny, and Bibi Andersson as Maj von Dardel. The three-hour, twenty-minute picture won four Emmy Awards and was nominated for five more.

WALLENBERG: A HEROS’ STORY was one of the last major works composed by the great Austrian born composer Ernest Gold, who came to the United States from Vienna in 1938, prompted by Hitler’s invasion of Austria, and started working as a piano accompanist and as a popular songwriter in New York City. Growing disillusioned by songwriting, Gold headed west in 1945, following an interest in writing music for Hollywood films. He was quickly put to work as a composer for Columbia Pictures in 1945. After enduring the assembly-line production of numerous B-movies, Gold achieved acclaim with a number of scores for Stanley Kramer at United Artists. ON THE BEACH was the first of ten films Gold composed for the director, followed by JUDGMENT AT NUREMBURG and IT’S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD. Three of his scores received Academy Award nominations; he won his Oscar for best score for Otto Preminger’s EXODUS.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents WALLENBERG: A HERO’S STORY, featuring music composed and conducted by Ernest Gold, appearing for the very first time on compact disc. The music has been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland and the liner notes have been written by author Randall Larson.

WALLENBERG: A HERO’S STORY is a limited edition release of 500 units. WALLENBERG: A HERO’S STORY is expected to begin shipping the week of March 13th, 2023.

This CD would not have been possible if Edipan hadn’t conserved two mono masters in good conditions in its archives (stereo mixes have gone lost). Unfortunately it was not possible to cancel some magnetic flaws. We brought to life an OST that contains all the popular and well respected music elements of Maestro Nicolai: dissonant strings segments, experimental effects of an evocative classical main theme, ambiguous and mysterious, accompanied by pop rithms.

    Camorra - Manuel De Sica

    camorra.jpg

    Zitat

Manuel De Sica wrote an orchestral comment based on a recurring symphonic tarantella, which is the main theme retaken in symphonic version or with a solo guitar, alternated with lounge tracks like “Rough”, sung by M° De Sica himself, who was 23 years old back then, with the fabulous “Bossa Nova Boss”, with the extravagant “Casa da gioco” and with the “Anna e Tonino” love theme. RCA printed a promo LP (SP 8046), put together by M° De Sica, 30:30 minutes long. In 1994 the same material was printed on CD (original soundtrack - OST 125), paired with “The

Garden of the Finzi-Continis” (aka “Il giardino dei Finzi-Contini”). We were able to have access to the original session mono masters, which brought us to discover some unpublished material, that results in a 46:38 minutes long CD. A sincere homage to the Musical Art of the dear departed Manuel De Sica.

Io sono l'abisso / La ragazza nella nebbia - Vito Lo Re

The alpha and the omega, we could say: the first and last soundtrack I wrote for Donato Carrisi (to date!). Two very different scores, because I believe that a composer of applied music must know how to juggle very different styles, ensembles and moods. In The Girl in the Fog there is no definition of a single character theme, the electronic music outlines and delimits the action, or when the action is more important than what the characters feel. Orchestral music, on the other hand, is used to underline a particular emotional detail of the single character. In short, I tried to make my own the widespread rule in American scores according to which the music must not express the action represented but describe the feelings of the characters.

In Io sono l'abisso, on the other hand, the approach is decidedly more intimate: there is a single theme played by three instruments (piano, viola and cello) and then, speaking of juggling different styles, La mia Queen: a rap pop that kind of represents the black soul of this soundtrack.

Vito Lo Re's music seems to come straight from the camera. They are light in the form of notes. From the exact moment they are linked to the image, it is no longer possible to separate them from each other.

Released 17 March 2023. Pre-order on CD now.

Previously released over 20 years ago on CD, David Shire’s captivating soundtrack to The Conversation is reissued in remastered form alongside new artwork and album notes from film music journalist Michael Beek. Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974, tense contemporary thriller, gives The Godfather: Part II a run for its money when it comes to citing the director’s best. The Academy Awards agreed, nominating both for a Best Picture Oscar in its 1974 batch, though the brilliant Corleone sequel would pip The Conversation to the post on the night.

Gene Hackman plays hi-tech wiretapper Harry Caul, a master in his field but away from his job a socially awkward loner. Composer David Shire captures his twilight world with a magnificent score entirely performed on solo piano. The jazz flavour counteracts perfectly alongside Harry’s lonely sax playing in his apartment, his escape from his insidious occupation.

Shire, Coppola’s brother-in-law having married his sister Talia had made his mark on Broadway and Hollywood as a composer, songwriter and arranger. His scores include some of the biggest films of the 1970s including The Taking Of Pelham 123, All The President’s Men and Norma Rae, the latter securing him an Oscar for Best Music, Original Song, It Goes Like It Goes.

  6. Von Beat Records gibt es in diesem Monat wieder drei Wiedergänger: Le foto proibite di una signora per bene und Space: 1999 von Ennio Morricone sowie Goblins Squadra antigangsters.

Beat Records reissues a classic OST by Ennio Morricone for the Giallo film "Le foto proibite di una Signora per bene" (aka "The Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion"), directed in 1971 by Luciano Ercoli starring Dagmar Lassander, Nieves Navarro, Simón Andreu, Pier Paolo Capponi, Osvaldo Genazzani and Salvador Huguet. Ennio Morricone composed a solid OST for a genre for which he had written many memorable scores. For this film he penned an orchestral score in which the crystal voice of Edda Dell'Orso intervenes as an additional instrument in the main theme "Le foto proibite di una Signora per bene," performed in a bossa nova tempo that opens and closes the CD. "Amore come dolore" is a romantic-mysterious theme with beat rhythms, contrasting with numerous dissonant themes and the tense atmosphere in which the female protagonist is immersed. Beat dance music is not lacking with themes much loved by fans such as "Allegretto per Signora," "Intermezzino pop" and "Secondo intermezzino pop," which have also been included in various lounge music compilations. For this CD we used the stereo master tapes from the original recording sessions, for a total running time of 55:34.

Beat Records is proud to present the world premiere CD release of SPACE:1999, featuring the original motion picture soundtrack of the Italian theatrical version composed by two-time Oscar-winner Ennio Morricone.

SPACE: 1999 premiered in Italian theatres on January 14, 1975, and was created through the process of editing together three episodes from season one of the TV series: "Breakaway," "Ring Around the Moon" and "Another Time, Another Place."

The theatrical release of SPACE: 1999 predated the series' debut on Italian television by a year, with the first six episodes being broadcast from January 31, 1976. Six more episodes followed in July and the remaining twelve episodes in the fall of the same year.

The series' original iconic score was not used for the Italian theatrical version (the series originally premiered on British television on September 4, 1975), instead being replaced with a fascinating score by Ennio Morricone, who composed original material featuring frantic jazz themes and futuristic electronic sequences reminiscent of Barry Gray's work on UFO.

This release also includes avant-garde material by Morricone that was carefully selected as background music for various scenes in the movie, taken directly from the RCA promotional series of library vinyl LPs titled "Dimensioni Sonore," performed by symphonic orchestra and presented here in full stereo. Also included is the final large orchestral theme heard over the end credits, featuring vocals by Edda Dell'Orso and I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni. This theme was reused for the 1979 mini-series Orient Express, again scored by Ennio Morricone.

The CD has a running time of 70:11 and comes with a full-color, 20-page booklet containing double cover, archive stills, a foreword from Fanderson chairman Nick Williams (the official Fanderson UK fan club) and plot synopses and credits for the three original episodes.

This release was officially approved by ITV Studios and will be available from September 13, 2016, the day in which the moon separated from Earth's orbit in SPACE: 1999 (also coming soon on double-LP from Death Waltz Recording Company!).

With his previous experience in pop music songwriting, Kam created a highly melodic and enjoyable score for the film. But in the end, those elements of revenge and decadence are transformed into friendship, dreams, and hope through the music. The whole album is also structured around these rousing elements.

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis' score to "Blonde", by Andrew Dominik and starring Ana De Armas, is out now on physical formats after previously being released on digital formats.

The CD is presented as a jewel case with 4pp booklet.

Blonde boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood's most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves. The film also stars Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.

Cave and Ellis reflect on the making of the score: “Working with Andrew Dominik is always a challenging, but ultimately mind-blowing experience. Creating the score for this terrifying and complex reimagining of the Marilyn Monroe story was no different and, as always, it was a complete privilege to work with him. The darkest of films with a gorgeous spiritual score.”

Dominik commenting on “Pearly”: “Pure yearning, always coming and never arriving, great beauty just out of reach.”

Dragon’s Domain Records presents CRAIG SAFAN: HORROR MACABRE VOLUME 2, featuring music composed by Craig Safan for two projects from his extensive filmography. CRAIG SAFAN: HORROR MACABRE VOLUME 2 includes music from NIGHTMARES, the 1983 horror anthology, along with SEDUCED BY MADNESS: THE DIANE BORCHARDT STORY, a 1996 television film.

Released in 1983, NIGHTMARES had its origins in a short-lived weekly television series titled DARKROOM on ABC hosted by James Coburn in which two horrific tales unfolded back-to-back within its hour-long time slot. The show was conceived in the vein of other short horror-thriller programs such as ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, THRILLER, THE OUTER LIMITS, and NIGHT GALLERY.

In the year following the success of DARKROOM, rival network NBC moved to capitalize on anthology storytelling by commissioning Christopher Crowe and Jeffrey Bloom, who had written and directed a handful of episodes of DARKROOM, to write four short scripts to be assembled into a two-hour unnamed pilot directed by Joseph Sargent. Bolstered by distinguished acting talent including Emilio Estevez, Lance Henriksen, Christina Raines, William Sanderson, Veronica Cartwright, and Richard Masur, the completed pilot demonstrated genuine potential for the network. However, there was a small problem. The executives at NBC deemed the episodes too intense for television audiences. The television pilot was summarily scrapped in favor of resurrecting the anthology as a theatrical motion picture called NIGHTMARES released by Universal Pictures.

The music for NIGHTMARES was composed by Craig Safan, who had also composed most of the episodic music for DARKROOM. Safan had already made a name for himself scoring THE GREAT TEXAS DYNAMITE CHASE and FADE TO BLACK and would further his career by authoring beloved scores for THE LAST STARFIGHTER, REMO WILLIAMS: THE ADVENTURE BEGINS, THE LEGEND OF BILLIE JEAN and all two-hundred and seventy-one episodes of the hit television series CHEERS. Safan had just come off a particularly heartbreaking project when his entire score for WOLFEN was rejected and replaced by a score from another composer. Safan’s music for NIGHTMARES is a calculated blend of aleatoric orchestral music coupled with a heavy dose of synthesizers during one of the film’s most memorable segments.

SEDUCED BY MADNESS aired on the NBC network in 1996, presented in two episodes and starred the legendary Ann-Margret along with Peter Coyote, Leslie Hope, Christian Campbell, Hedy Burress, Tobey Maguire, Freddy Rodriguez, Cliff De Young, Dean Norris, Tomas Arana and Kurt Fuller. Ann-Margret plays Diane Kay Borchardt, a Wisconsin teacher’s aide convicted of hiring her students to spy on and eventually kill her estranged husband. SEDUCED BY MADNESS dramatizes the events leading to Borchardt’s conviction, life in prison without the possibility of parole until she has served forty-five years in prison. For SEDUCED BY MADNESS, Safan composed a chamber score—comprised primarily of strings, winds, and percussion.

Emmy-nominated and eight-time ASCAP award-winning composer Craig Safan has scored more than one hundred feature films, television and documentaries, has had more than 50 soundtrack albums of his music produced, as well as having three original albums of his own impressionistic music released. He’s been commissioned to compose for ballet as well as for live performance of silent films and was given the Poledouris Film Music Legend Award at the 2014 International Film Music Festival in Cordoba, Spain.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents CRAIG SAFAN: HORROR MACABRE VOLUME 2, featuring the premiere release of his music for NIGHTMARES and SEDUCED BY MADNESS: THE DIANE BORCHARDT STORY on compact disc, featuring Craig Safan’s music mastered by James Nelson of Digital Outland. The booklet contains liner notes written by author and composer Brian Satterwhite and includes comments from the composer.

Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents CHUCK CIRINO’S EROTIC THRILLERS, featuring music composed by Chuck Cirino (CHOPPING MALL, NOT OF THIS EARTH, DEATHSTALKER II and RETURN OF SWAMP THING ) for two films from his filmography, SINS OF DESIRE and HAUNTING FEAR.

The success of BASIC INSTINCT in 1992 saw an incredible boom of like-minded erotic thrillers in the home video market. Released almost a year later, SINS OF DESIRE was directed by Jim Wynorski (CHOPPING MALL, NOT OF THIS EARTH, DEATHSTALKER II and RETURN OF SWAMP THING), written by Peter Liapis and Mark Thomas McGee, starring Gail Thackray, John Henry Richardson, Delia Sheppard, Tanya Roberts, Carrie Stevens, Nick Cassavetes, Jan-Michael Vincent, Becky LeBeau, Monique Parent and Ace Mask.

SINS OF DESIRE begins with Monica (Thackray), who is a patient of Dr. Callister (Richardson), a sex therapist. While she’s unconscious, Callister takes advantage of her and she panics, forcing him to kill her by accident. Callister and his wife, Jessica (Sheppard), also a doctor, bury Monica. Unknown to them, Monic was investigating their clinic for her boss, Mitchum (Cassavettes), a private detective. The Callisters hire a hitman (Vincent) to kill Mitchum. When he fails, they kill the hitman. After a former patient of Callister’s kills herself, her sister, Kay (Roberts) goes undercover as a nurse at the clinic to find out what happened. As Kay gets closer to the truth, she also gets closer to Mitchum.

Based on the classic Edgar Allan Poe story ‘Premature Burial’, HAUNTING FEAR was written and directed Fred Olen Ray, starring Brinke Steven, Jan-Michael Vincent, John Henry Richardson, Delia Sheppard, Karen Black, Robert Clarke, Robert Quarry, Michael Berryman and Hoke Howell. Released in 1990, the film follows Victoria (Stevens), who has an irrational fear of being buried alive. Victoria consults her doctor (Clarke) and is given medication to help her sleep but this only amplifies her fears. Unable to help her, Dr. Carlton refers her to another doctor, Harcourt (Black), who begins using hypnotism to deal with Victoria’s mental block. Victoria’s husband, Terry (Richardson) has been secretly having an affair with his secretary, Lisa (Sheppard) and has racked up some serious debt. Terry conceives of a plan to kill Victoria and use the inheritance to pay off his debt. Terry and Lisa decide to bury Victoria alive in order to scare her to death but their plan backfires and Victoria returns for some bloody vengeance.

Chuck Cirino did not start his career as a composer, but rather as a programmer in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania for a Public Access cable TV station, where he learned how to create TV shows by himself, without a crew. In his spare time, he experimented with the station’s video equipment and created a series of genre productions that allowed him the opportunity to learn how to incorporate special effects into his work. After relocating to California, Cirino transitioned into directing high-end special effects television commercials. His first work as composer was for the 1980 cult film GYPSY ANGELS, which starred Vanna White and Richard Roundtree. Since then he has scored films for Roger Corman, directed music videos for bands like Earth, Wind & Fire and The Dickies’ KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, and has recorded over 40 music soundtracks for feature films including SORCERESS, HARD TO DIE, TRANSYLVANIA TWIST, and many others. Most recently, he has scored A DOGGONE CHRISTMAS, A DOGGONE HOLLYWOOD and A DOGGONE ADVENTURE.

Chuck has worked as a producer, director, filmmaker, videographer, animator, special effects technician, editor, and composer. He executive produces and directs WEIRD TV, a television series featuring weird Americans, bizarre news, unbelievable events and outlandish skits. Chuck’s credits also include executive producer and director of the Sci Fi Channel projects, WORLDWIDE WEIRD and WARPED IN SPACE, and BABERELLAS, an independent Sci Fi feature distributed by Xenon Pictures.

Chuck also produced BURNING MAN 1994, the very first documentary on the subject. Chuck works and resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Flordilyn and a cat, Too Too. His spare time is spent growing an experimental back-yard, permaculture food forest.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents CHUCK CIRINO’S EROTIC THRILLERS, featuring music composed by Chuck Cirino for SINS OF DESIRE and HAUNTING FEAR, appearing for the first time on compact disc. The music has been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland and the liner notes have been written by noted author Randall Larson, with the participation of the composer.

CHUCK CIRINO’S EROTIC THRILLERS is a limited edition release of 500 units and is expected to begin shipping the week of February 6th, 2023. Composer Chuck Cirino will sign the first 50 copies of CHUCK CIRINO’S EROTIC THRILLERS sold through the website.

BSX Records presents the original motion picture soundtrack to SHOGUN ASSASSIN, featuring music composed by W. Michael Lewis and Mark Lindsay for the 1980 film assembled with elements from the the Japanese film series LONE WOLF AND CUB, directed by Kenji Misumi and starring Tomisaburô Wakayama as Ogami Ittō. The LONE WOLF AND CUB series, which consisted of six Japanese martial arts films based on a long-running manga series, revolved around the Shōgun’s executioner Ogami Ittō, who, after being disgraced by false accusations from an opposing clan, is forced to take the path of assassin. Along with his three-year-old son, Daigorō, they seek revenge on the clan and become known as Lone Wolf and Cub.

The series was highly successful, prompting a 79-episode Japanese television series and in 1980, elements from the first two films, SWORD OF VENGEANCE and BABY CART AT THE RIVER STYX, were extracted and newly dubbed into the American film, SHOGUN ASSASSIN, co-produced and directed by Robert Houston for New World Pictures. The re-edited Japanese film was given a new score, composed by W. Michael Lewis and Mark Lindsay.

The score was recorded at Lindsay’s Wonderland Avenue studio in the Los Angeles Hills, where they jointly created the score. At that time, coming out of the ‘70s, there was a lot of progressive rock and New Wave music was just starting so Lewis and Lindsay used those ideas as the basic sounds for their SHOGUN ASSASSIN score.

Both W. Michael Lewis and Mark Lindsay began their careers with 1960s rock bands – Lindsay was the vocalist for Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Lewis was a keyboard player with Quicksilver Messenger Service from 1975-1979, among other bands previously. Lewis had moved into film scoring in 1978, beginning with the 1977-82 speculative TV series IN SEARCH OF… and he scored nearly a dozen films and series during the 1980s. After SHOGUN ASSASSIN, Lewis went on to score, with composer Lauren Rinder, the holiday slasher film NEW YEARS’ EVIL in 1980; he rejoined Mark Lindsay on the 1981 documentary THE KILLING OF AMERICA, then went on to compose a mix of orchestral and electronic music to Cannon Films’ ENTER THE NINJA, co-composed with Rinder and REVENGE OF THE NINJA with Rinder and Robert J. Walsh; music from those films was re-used in the third film, NINJA III: THE DOMINATION.

BSX Records presents the original motion picture soundtrack to SHOGUN ASSASSIN on compact disc for the first time, featuring music composed by W. Michael Lewis and Mark Lindsay. 13. Am 27. Januar erscheinen bei GAD Records gleich fünf neue Filmmusikalben:

Wojna Światów – następne stulecie - Józef Skrzek

    GAD-CD-235-Skrzek_Wojna_swiatow_nastepne

    Zitat

The music was written for Piotr Szulkin's film, although it was only used in the film in a small part. The most rocking, but still colorful and not entirely obvious face of Józef Skrzek. Now in a refreshed, definitive edition.

"The War of the Worlds - The Next Century" is a colorful and diverse material. Józef Skrzek prepared e.g. two dynamic instrumental motifs from the title dominated by the sound of moog synthesizers, but also subtle sound pictures with Szukalski's lyrical saxophone ("Dla Alina", "Szakal"). He reached for a poem by Tadeusz Różewicz ("Unknown Letter"), hard rock riffs ("65th St. Sermon") or folk elements ("Fade Away"). Today, the album, realized with the help of Tomasz Szukalski, Robert Gola, Jan Skrzek and Janusz Ziomber, occupies a special place in Józef Skrzek's discography. It is a coda of the artist's rock adventures and, in fact, the last solo album of the artist realized in such a convention. With its unusual marriage of powerful guitars, singing saxophone and powerful synthesizers, it remains an important episode in the artist's career.

"War of the Worlds - the Next Century" returns on CD in a new version, prepared in close cooperation with Warner Music Poland and GAD Records. The material has been remastered from the original tapes from the archives of Polskie Nagrania and supplemented with the original versions of the songs recorded in 1980. The booklet contains the history of the creation of the album and photos.

    Kangurek Hip-Hop - Bogumil Pasternak

    GAD-CD-234_SFR_Kangurek_Hip_Hop-3000-sca

    Zitat

Lovely animation with a lovely soundtrack. The adventures of a smiling kangaroo still reach the young viewer, and the soundtrack coming from them will bring a smile to the face of every child. Even over forty.

Created by Bronisław Zeman, the Hip-Hop Kangaroo character began in the mid-1970s to help children discover information about animals. To this day, these thirteen short animations are able to attract a young viewer. And the adjective "cute" fits them perfectly. This also applies to the music of Bogumił Pasternak, in which he combined classical instruments with electromechanical and electronic ones. Already in the first episode ("The Fox"), Pasternak introduces an electric guitar and a Fender piano, combining them with a subtle flute and bossa nova rhythm. "Borsuk" brings a subtle waltz with a vibrating sound of vibraphone, "Chamois" and "Wolf" successfully refer to highlander folklore, and "Bóbr" complements the string section and woodwinds with a subtly used synthesizer.

All the recordings have been remastered from the original tapes from the sound archive of the Cartoon Film Studio. The booklet contains text about the series and the composer as well as stills from the films. The release is part of a whole series of CDs prepared by Studio Filmów Rysunkowych and GAD Records on the occasion of the Studio's 75th anniversary.

Marceli Szpak dziwi sie swiatu - Zenon Kowalowski

    Zitat

"Marceli Szpak wonders at the world" occupies a special place in the achievements of the Animated Film Studio. It is a magical meeting in one place and time of an excellent screenwriter, sensitive director and composer with an amazing imagination. Effect? moving.

Produced in 1984-86, the series, based on the idea of Joanna Pollakówna and developed by Aleksander Oczka, became the most poetic production not only in the history of the Studio in Bielsko, but also in the history of Polish animation for children in general. Zenon Kowalowski's nostalgic music fits perfectly into the melancholic mood of the main character's deliberations. A large part of the instrumental motifs that appeared in the series are broad themes dominated by the string section, enriched here and there with flute, clarinet, oboe, harmonica or acoustic guitar. There were also vibraphones that introduced a dreamlike mood or synthesizers used very modestly and deliberately. It's music that not only emphasizes the character of the film, but takes it to a new level. "Marceli Szpak..." also includes colorful songs - including the opening credits sung by Tadeusz Kwinta.

All the recordings have been remastered from the original tapes from the sound archive of the Cartoon Film Studio. The booklet contains extensive text about the series and stills from the films. The release is part of a whole series of CDs prepared by Studio Filmów Rysunkowych and GAD Records on the occasion of the Studio's 75th anniversary.

Breathtaking slalom between transistors and diodes. An alternative history of Polish electronic music from the turn of the 70s and 80s - through the prism of intriguing animated films. From pre-ambient to pre-industrial.

The Animated Film Studio in Bielsko-Biała, apart from popular series for children, regularly produced artistic films aimed at adult viewers. The creators associated with the studio attempted formal experiments, reached for unusual artistic solutions and looked for stories devoid of banality. Composers associated with the studio could not stay behind - electronic instruments came to the rescue. "Knock Down" presents various ways of using synthesizers in illustrating animations. From lyrical cantilenas ("Bird" by Zbigniew Lampart), through minimalism ("Studium" by Zenon Kowalowski) to successful marriages of electronics with live instruments ("Defekt" by Marek Wilczyński). It is a colorful journey to the stuffy underground ("The Burner of the Knot"), to desert islands ("The Green Subversive") and space ("Exodus").

All the recordings have been remastered from the original tapes from the sound archive of the Cartoon Film Studio. The booklet contains an extensive text on the electronic adventures of SFR and film stills. The release is part of a whole series of CDs prepared by Studio Filmów Rysunkowych and GAD Records on the occasion of the Studio's 75th anniversary.

One of the most popular (though fictional) dogs in the history of Polish pop culture. Experiencing more and more new adventures, followed by the music of Zenon Kowalowski with moving motifs, emotions and style. Now - for the first time on the album, in full splendor and with obligatory stamps!

The character of Reksio, invented by Lechosław Marszałek, remains one of the most recognizable Polish animated characters in history to this day. The universal tone of backyard stories with a nice dog in the lead role does not age despite the passage of time. This is also due to the excellent animation and colorful, emotional music by Zenon Kowalowski. This material is extremely coherent in terms of instrumentation (one of the few exceptions is the electronic music recorded for the episode "Reksio i UFO"), full of charming themes and interesting tension building. The album opens and closes with the legendary opening credits - also in the original version, before adding sound effects. Most listeners will imagine characteristic barks or stamping in empty places anyway.

All the recordings have been remastered from the original tapes from the sound archive of the Cartoon Film Studio. The booklet contains Magda Miśka-Jackowska's conversation with the composer and film stills. The release is part of a whole series of CDs prepared by Studio Filmów Rysunkowych and GAD Records on the occasion of the Studio's 75th anniversary.

Chris' Soundtrack Corner proudly presents the CD soundtrack to Peccato senza malizia (aka Sins Without Intentions, 1975), an elusive romantic drama by a similarly enigmatic albeit one-time filmmaker, Theo Campanelli. The film tells the story of Stefania, an 18-year old girl leaving her orphanage in Ascoli Piceno who moves in with her stepfather, a humble and simplistic fisherman. Seeing the girl as a wife and a lover rather than a daughter, the unnamed stepfather ignites an abusive relationship until Stefania escapes into a series of equally unhealthy situations.

When the movie was released, an inventive marketing campaign was launched to promote its arrival; foreign promotional campaigns played up the sexuality aspect, focusing on the single (comparatively tame) shower sequence in a series of lobby cards and posters... Unfortunately, Peccato senza malizia has all but disappeared from the public eye. As director Theo Campanelli never gained a cult following, his sole movie hasn't been given any attention by home video labels. As such, it becomes yet another Italian film where the soundtrack is more readily available than the film itself…

The musical score for Peccato senza malizia was composed by Stelvio Cipriani, and belongs to the same genre of romantic dramas Cipriani was known for, where art plays an important part in the unfolding relationships. While the protagonist of Anonimo veneziano is a musician who uses his craft to seduce his former wife again, Dedicato a una stella develops the artistic romance concept further with a heart-wrenching concert performance of an original Cipriani composition. Peccato senza malizia tries to achieve the same by drawing a parallel between music and painting, where Cipriani's music underscores the emotional changes just as well as the artworks that are presented on screen. His score relies on two themes, with its first half building almost all of its cues around the main theme with a strong focus on Stefania's character. Here, Cipriani uses his array of orchestral tricks to showcase the emotional rollercoaster of the main heroine. When Stefania hooks up with her inspiring music teacher, Maurizio, a trumpet is used to suggest his masculine swagger; as their relationship blossoms, Cipriani introduces his love theme. This motif draws upon Stefania's innocence to showcase the transformative power of their romance.

Chris' Soundtrack Corner is delighted to make this score available for the first time. Given the fact that the first half of the movie is on the more monothematic side, we have opted to create a better listening experience by either merging shorter cues together or by simply changing the order of the cues. Peccato senza malizia may very well be the most obscure movie our label has ever released, but it's worth every minute of the prime Cipriani material put on display. The album is produced by Christian Riedrich and mastered by Manmade Mastering. The CD is accompanied by an 8-page illustrated booklet designed by Tobias Kohlhaas and featuring exclusive notes by Gergely Hubai, who explores the making of the film and its score in detail.

The "Comisario Mendoza" trilogy from Spanish filmmaker José Antonio de la Loma is a very strange genre series with an informal bond established through the titular character who was played by a different actor in each of the movies. From the first film, La redada (aka Barcelona Kill, 1973, with John Justin as Mendoza) to the last, Metralleta Stein (1975, Francisco "Paco" Rabal as Mendoza, with El último viaje (1974, Eduardo Fajardo as Mendoza) in between, each film is relatively dissimilar from the others. Metralleta Stein is arguably the most refined picture of the series, while El último viaje may be the sleaziest instalment with the drug plot inviting casual orgies and a fair share of topless women. Whether it's an urban crime thriller, a drug bust movie, or a cross-country manhunt, Comisario Mendoza is always hot on the trail of the criminals even if his screen time varies greatly from mission to mission.

Though it felt like a natural selection for the series, Cipriani's musical legacy with the Comisario Mendoza movies is as convoluted as the constant recasting of its main hero. While both La redada and El último viaje were scored by Cipriani, the third movie had a most unusual accompaniment. Instead of commissioning original music, Metralleta Stein actually used pre-existing compositions from the C.A.M. archives, the film also used tracks from such notable composers (the majority being tracks previously written by Cipriani; its soundtrack is also available from Chris' Soundtrack Corner). El último viaje's score is largely based around two themes, each representing a different aspect of gangster life. The key idea for the central love theme is deception, as the film spends a good portion of its running length showcasing the fake luxurious criminal lifestyle. Interestingly, a recurring feature of Cipriani's score is that he provides self-contained cues to certain sequences that stand apart from the main narrative – thus it makes sense to write music that is thematically unrelated to the body of the score. In La último viaje, this moment comes towards the middle of the movie where we can find a curiously detached pair of tunes for a drugged up orgy sequence; Cipriani provides music for bass guitar, flutes, and percussion that's only interrupted by a blurt of violence when somebody gets dragged out to the cliffside. Even with a sequence proving such offbeat challenges, Cipriani solves the task admirably.

As no contemporary album was issued to go along with the film, Chris' Soundtrack Corner is proud to present a real premiere release of the full score optimized for a varied listening experience. As usual, Cipriani's name is a guarantee for a great flow, memorable tunes, and 45 minutes of musical excellence. The album is produced by Christian Riedrich and mastered by Manmade Mastering. The CD is accompanied by a 12-page illustrated booklet designed by Tobias Kohlhaas and featuring exclusive notes by Gergely Hubai, who explores the making of the film and its score in detail.

Silva Screen Records will release the eagerly awaited Doctor Who Series 13 The Specials on 13th January 2023. Leading to this triple CD set, Silva Screen will digitally release the volumes separately - Eve Of The Daleks on 2nd December, Legend of the Sea Devils on 9th December and The Power Of The Doctor on 16th December.

The 2022 Doctor Who specials are the three additional episodes that follow the programme's thirteenth series. The first special, Eve Of The Daleks, aired on 1 January 2022, the second, Legend of the Sea Devils, aired on 17 April and the third, The Power Of The Doctor on 23 October. They are the final episodes to feature Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. The specials also star Mandip Gill and John Bishop as the Doctor's travelling companions, Yasmin Khan and Dan Lewis. Chris Chibnall is the showrunner and the writer. All Series 13 episodes, together with the 3 specials, are currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer in the UK.

Chris Chibnall reflects on Segun’s work - “How do I sum up Segun’s contribution to ‘Doctor Who’, and the Thirteenth Doctor’s era, in a few words?... I only need one: brilliant! Segun made the show’s musical landscape wide-ranging, specific and authentic. The scores for these three Specials illustrate that breadth perfectly. From the witty but emotional jazz-infused chamber piece of Eve Of The Daleks, through the beautiful and powerful use of traditional Chinese instrumentation in Legend Of The Sea Devils, culminating with The Power of The Doctor: a fitting climax to Segun’s work on the show - bringing together so many of the fabulous themes he’s created: from Daleks and Cybermen to the Master, Yaz, and the Thirteenth Doctor’s wondrous heroic and emotive theme.”

Segun scored Sundance 2019 favourite The Last Tree, which was also recorded at Abbey Road Studios. This is Segun’s second feature film collaboration with director Shola Amoo after A Moving Image, and it earned him a Discovery of the Year award nomination at the World Soundtrack Awards. A BAFTA Breakthrough Brit 2017, Segun’s other work includes scoring BBC Two’s landmark four-part series Black and British: A Forgotten History.

Also available on Silva Screen Records are Segun Akinola’s scores Doctor Who Series 11, Doctor Who Series 12 and Doctor Who Series 13 FLUX

„If I could be in any other band, it would be BMX Bandits" Kurt Cobain allegedly said. A great artist with excellent taste. The BMX Bandits have been around in varying formations since 1986 and come from great Scottish guitar pop lineage. Something must be in the drinking water in and around Glasgow, the density of legendary, fantastic bands is striking; Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian, Primal Scream, Vaselines , Pastels and... the BMX Bandits. With Duglas T. Stewart as the focal point, the band has been releasing great indie pop albums irregularly since 1989. Their first album "C86" is a classic and since then the band has had a worldwide fan base, be it in Tokyo, Hamburg and…well of course, Seattle.

Deeply rooted in the golden era of pop – the 60s – as well as the DIY indie pop scene of the 80s, Duglas and the Bandits created their own sound and style. Humorous, heartfelt and always featuring great melodies. Humorous, heartfelt, great melodies... that's exactly our field of expertise! And so it was surely only a matter of time until we, Tapete Records, finally had the honour of releasing a BMX Bandits album. Welcome aboard!
