A Little Princess (1995) is a cinematic gem from the early career of Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men, Gravity). Based on a 1905 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the fantasy drama is about a young girl subjected to the cruelty of her school headmistress in New York City after learning her father has died. In Cuarón’s masterful hands, the film is a joyous tribute to the power of imagination and the individual spirit. A Little Princess was the first of two films for Cuarón and Scottish composer Patrick Doyle (the second being Great Expectations). Cuarón and producer Mark Johnson had been impressed with Doyle’s symphonic and choral score for Henry V, his strong melodic sense and dramatic sensitivity. Doyle provided A Little Princess with a gem of a score, full of heartfelt themes, lilting waltzes, Indian flourishes (the protagonist had been living in India) and a marvelous sense of period storytelling. Choral passages include songs performed by star Liesel Matthews and Doyle’s then-young daughter. Doyle stays true to the ideal of childhood innocence, and the protagonist’s indomitable spirit, while taking the symphonic drama to Shakespearean heights. Varèse Sarabande’s 28-track 1995 soundtrack album is expanded in this Deluxe Edition with an 11-minute bonus section of unreleased cues and alternates with 7 tracks, including 3 suites. Varèse Sarabande presents a Deluxe Encore Edition of the 2CD soundtrack to The Thorn Birds, Henry Mancini’s television masterpiece. The Thorn Birds became the second-highest rated miniseries of all time when it aired in March 1983, behind only Roots. Based on the 1977 book by Colleen McCullough, the four-part program told the multigenerational story of the Cleary family, settlers in the Australian Outback of the early to mid-20th century, and the forbidden love of matriarch Meggie Cleary (Rachel Ward) and the family priest, Father Ralph de Briscassart (Richard Chamberlain). The all-star production won six Emmys, with a further ten nominations including Mancini’s score. For a career full of landmark achievements in television—from Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky to the miniseries The Moneychangers—The Thorn Birds is Mancini’s crown jewel. Bei dem Track 6 "Nasty Little Habits" ist bei meiner CD bei Minute 1:14 ein kleiner Aussetzer. Handelt es sich hier um ein Pressfehler?

Hoffentlich kommt am Black Friday die CD zum Godfather Part II. Sind dann auch 50 Jahre her.

Ich durfte ihn 1994 in San Francisco kennenlernen. Ein sehr sympathischer Mann, der sich für die Veröffentlichung zahlreicher Soundtracks verdient gemacht hat.

Ist am Ondes Martenot, vor allem in den letzten Sekunden gut zu erkennen. CD ist auch in meiner Sammlung. Ohne Autogramm, dafür habe ich ein Autogramm vom Komponisten auf einem Klassiker von 1963.

Den Stil des Komponisten ist sehr deutlich erkennbar, auch wenn ich von diesem keine CD habe.

Hier noch zwei für die Lösung eher unwichtige Fakten zum Komponisten: - War der erste Filmkomponist mit einem Stern auf dem Walk of Fame - Der Familienname des Komponisten ist nicht der Geburtsname. Daher wie von Jürgen bemerkt "Amerikanischer Komponist" nur teilweise.

So... jetzt hat´s klick gemacht. Die 60er waren schon die erfolgreichste Zeit des Komponisten. Ein großer Klassiker kommt gerne an Silvester im Spätprogramm.

Diese Musik kam dieses Jahr von einem anderen Komponisten "neu" auf CD.

Der Soundtrack ist mit einer Laufzeit von weniger als eine 1/2 Stunde sehr kurz. Vielleicht gibt es hier mal eine Erweiterung des Soundtracks. Der Film mit lauter Oscarpreisträger ist wohl eine ziemliche Gurke und hat nur knapp die Hälfte der Kosten eingespielt.

Ist eigentlich bekannt, wieso John Williams sich gegen eine Veröffentlichung so lange gesträubt hat?

Das erste Quiz mit Herrmann war gut, da er mich auf dem falschen Fuß erwischt hat. Bei dem zweiten und dritten bin ich aber auch ganz schnell raus. Sollte schon ein Komponist sein der hier der Runde geläufig ist. Über den persönlichen Stil des Komponisten kommt man dann eher noch auf die Lösung.

Bestimmt kein bekannter Komponist. Hört sich an als wäre das von einer KI komponiert.😮

Ich denke mal das ist ein völlig "unbekannter" Komponist, von den wohl niemand mehr als 2-3 Soundtracks hat.

CD hat ich mir auf Stefans Empfehlung zugelegt. Den End Title habe ich mir aber auf meiner Playlist ans Ende gestellt, damit das Beste zum Schluss kommt.😃

Bei Minute 1 höre ich James Newton Howard, bei Minute 3 höre ich Basil Poledouris. Mmmh Schwierig.🤔
