Volle Kanne, Hoschi. Gekauft! Die David Newman-Fans haben zwar den Score seit vielen Jahren in guter Qualität im Regal, aber schön, dass Intrada trotzdem eine Veröffentlichung wagt, wo seine Scores doch beinahe Kassengift sind.
Ob Intradas CDs zu Scores aus ihrem Buddy-Club generell immer viel Kohle einbringen? Sei es D. Newman, Band, Plumeri oder Broughton. Da denke ich manchmal, das ist wie zu den Zeiten der guten, alten Promos. Die wurden mehr oder weniger für die Komponisten gemacht und zumindest die Herstellungskosten kamen wieder rein.
Jetzt müssen sie natürlich noch die Lizenzgebühren und re-use fees berappen, aber das wird manchmal nur gerade so +/- Null ausgehen, könnte ich mir vorstellen.

Von Intrada kommt David Newmans Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Newman wird die CD am 28.6. signieren.

Dass ausgerechnet 13 Minuten eines später recycleten Scores von Alex North als Veröffentlichungsargument dieser CD für La-La Land gelten, ist schon amüsant.
Wo doch North-Scores sich in den letzten Jahren als extreme Ladenhüter ausgezeichnet haben.ist wirklich so:

Truth be told, ich fand das Thema auf der alten Intrada auch "fad", auch, weil es zu lang ist. Ich habe nie Fakes Lobeshymnen verstanden. Aber ihn als "Brass"-Menschen fasziniert der Bläsersatz.
Daher mag ich hier gerade wie oben geschrieben die durchaus knackige Kurzfassung.

Ein Riesenglück, dass Alex Norths abgelehnter Pilotscore gefunden wurde. Da die erste CD schon gut 79 Minuten von Frontieres Library Cues hatte, wäre ohne diesen Bonus wohl eher kein Vol. 2 von LLL rausgebracht worden.
Dann aber bitte meinen ganzen Sinnzusammenhang zitieren!
Meine Vermutung wurde nämlich in der Zwischenzeit von MV Gerhard bestätigt. Ohne den North hätte LLL kein Vol. 2 rausgebracht.
Aber auch ohne diesen Zusammenhang ist es eine glückliche Fügung diesen Score zu haben. Es gibt ein knackiges Arrangement von Norths militärisch-pompösem Thema mit für den Komponisten typischen schrägen Anklängen, mit denen der Soldateska durchaus der Spiegel vorgehalten wird.
Dann macht es Spaß anzuhören, was North in seinem restlichen Score alles aus dem Thema rausquetscht. Ich persönlich möchte dieses neue Album nicht missen und es ist eine schöne Ergänzung zu Devil's Brigade auf Intrada.

Well, I'll just say this about that: One of the most beloved films in the history of cinema getting its first release of the original score tracks - I'd say that would be a rather momentously momentous occasion that would cause me and many others to dance a jig.
First of all, the Telarc recording features pretty much all of the Tiomkin - I think we have more, though. And we have fun bonus tracks. No matter what's been said, this, like A Place in the Sun, was not releasable prior to this and it was a mountain of work to get it releasable. There were two hours or more on these acetates, mostly aborted takes, partial takes and cues in pieces, which all had to be sorted out. While some of the acetates sounded okay, several didn't. But thanks to the amazing work of Chris Malone, it's all sorted out and most of it sounding beyond amazing - there are just a handful of cues that have a little acetate noise that had to stay so that we didn't compromise the music itself. But the majority sounds spectacular. None of this would have been doable even two years ago.
Somewhere just under fifty minutes.

For more than three years, Music Box Records has been offering us high quality soundtracks, adding each month to a catalog as rich as it is eclectic, and which allows us to make some wonderful discoveries. To celebrate its 50th album, Music Box releases for the first time ever the score composed and conducted by Lalo Schifrin for Golden Needles.
Golden Needles was directed by Robert Clouse, who brought along Schifrin from their last successful collaboration, Enter The Dragon. The music is the perfect accompaniment for the east-meets-west scenario and in many ways, it can be viewed as the close cousin of Schifrin’s incredibly influential soundtrack for Bruce Lee’s last film. Featuring cool percussion, infectious jazz licks, epic action set pieces and even a tender love theme, Schifrin’s music for Golden Needles is as great as it is largely forgotten in the shadow of its more esteemed peers - at least until now.
This CD marks the premiere release of Golden Needles. The only piece of music that has been released from the film was a re-recording on Schifrin’s 2000 compilation album Jazz Goes To Hollywood. This soundtrack presents all the music in mostly chronological order and is accompanied by an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Gergely Hubai who discusses the film and the score. Golden Needles may lack the name recognition of Bullitt or the cult factor of Enter The Dragon, but the score definitely delivers everything you’d expect from the composer at the top of his game - and it certainly doesn’t disappoint fans of Schifrin or martial arts movies in general. You can already discover some sound clips above, before the release scheduled of June 2.

Nach längerer Zeit mal wieder Clues von Intrada:
One release is our third time around. It's one of my favorites and has been out of print so long that it deserves a new life. It adds a few alternates and restores some silences. That last part may be cryptic but will make sense when you see the announcement.
The other is a recent horror score by one of our favorite B composers.Die Drittauflage dürfte als Goldsmiths Night Crossing feststehen. Das letzte Mal kam der Score 1994 raus.

Sehe ich genauso!
Ich war erst skeptisch, auch immer noch wegen Wilson, der damals Intradas Neuaufnahme von Spellbound dirigiert hat, die ich auch teilweise nicht packend und zugreifend fand. Diese Scheibe hier gefällt mit aber rundherum und macht viel Spaß!
Das sehen die, nebenbei gesagt, bei Intrada mittlerweile wohl auch etwas lockerer. Reagierten die früher bei Kritik daran immer sehr verschnupft, hat Roger Feigelson vor ein paar Monaten geschrieben:
If James (Fitzpatrick) said to me he liked our SPELLBOUND recording but felt the tempo of the main title was just too sluggish, I would be the first to say...you're right. And I'd say it shouldn't have been the first thing we recorded because the orchestra was cold.

Schade, dass sie ausgerechnet von der Titelmusik nicht später in den Sessions noch ein Take aufgenommen haben. (wobei eine Verlängerung der Aufnahmesitzung sicher finanziell nicht drin war...)

A compilation of electro-acoustic and early electronic music. Compiled from series of rare electronic 78rpm 10”s, featuring music used in the 1960s Doctor Who TV Series.
Considered to be one of the pioneers of Psychoacoustics, Eric Siday is also acknowledged as a key name in the growth of 20th century electronic music. An important figure in the development of the Moog Synthesizer, Siday’s compositions were a testing ground for Bob Moog ideas, in turn shaping the technical advancement of the instrument. An early experimenter of Musique Concrete and extended technique he inaugurated these concepts into the world of television scoring and advertising. Slightly pre-dating Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire’s ground-breaking composition for the Doctor Who theme, he begun experimenting with electronics in soundtracks as early as 1960 carrying through to the 1970s where he created inspired electronic ‘sound logos’ for various entertainment companies such as CBS, ABC and Columbia.
Pulling together a clutch of eerie atomic-age miniatures drawn from a series of rare 10” 78rpm library discs, this compilation explores Siday’s scientific study of sound, a concept he branded ‘The Ultra Sonic Perception’. Partially used as the soundtrack to the early 1960s Doctor Who TV series, this document is an amazing insight into the early electronic music used in television as well as a showcase of the pioneering techniques used by this forward thinking composer.

Don Harper
A previously unreleased Doctor Who score mastered from the original tapes. Includes additional electronic tracks from Don Harper’s catalogue and music featured in George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead.
A collection of Horror-Electronics, supernatural soundscapes and sinister library muzak from Australian composer Don Harper. Centring on a previously unreleased score for the 1968 Doctor Who series The Invasion (a dark otherworldly sci-fi jazz suite) Cold Worlds is also a focus on the electronic music of this largely unsung composer. Like many Australian film composers (Ron Grainer, Dudley Simpson, Don Banks) Don Harper based himself in the UK during the 1960s and subsequently found employment at the BBC and other British film and library companies.
Probably best known for his BBC scores for World of Sport, Sexton Blake and The inside Man, Harper also immersed himself in the world of electronics. Acknowledged as a virtuoso jazz violinist, he notably produced a 1974 electronic/altered jazz session for Lansdowne Studios titled Homo Electronicus (featuring Norma Winstone and other progressive UK jazz musicians). In addition to cutting a number of library sessions for Joseph Weinburger’s Impress label, in which several tracks were later famously sampled by MF Doom, he also co-wrote the music (alongside Delia Derbyshire and David Vorhaus) for the essential Radiophonic KPM recording Electrosonic. Also, featured on this compilation are his nightmarish cues used in George Romero’s cult zombie classic Dawn of the Dead.

Irgendwann zu Jahresbeginn sagte Gerhard als Termin "summer 2014".
Habe gestern die Episode "Impulse" gesehen. Muss mit das Beste sein, was McCarthy für das Franchise komponiert hat!

Zwar nicht Konkretes, aber Gerhard hypt schon mal ein wenig für den LLL-Juni. 1291 ist bereits als Addams Family bekannt.

richtig dick wirds erst mit enterprise.2 völlig unterschiedliche aber grossartige tyler scores, ein score von william ross...goldsmith-qualität, und die generall beste dramatischste musik von chattaway, bell, mccarthy und co für staffel 3.und bei 4 gings runter mit dem budget und orchester gabs so gut wie keines mehr.aber dafür war die staffel grossartig.
William Ross hat nicht für die Serie komponiert. Meinst du vielleicht McKenzie oder Frizzell? Beide haben ausgezeichnete Scores abgeliefert!
Das mit den Synth-Scores in der 4. Staffel war wirklich schade!

Es sind schon ein paar Scores darunter, die es endlich mal verdient hätten, verlängert zu kommen und nicht immer wieder die gleichen Tracks auf irgendwelchen neuen Aufgüssen. Dass hier und da neue Tracks hinzukommen, scheint doch zu bedeuten, dass die Bänder vorhanden sind und Expandierungen machbar wären.
Ich würde mir vor allem Goraguers Sur un Arbre Perché wünschen.

En juillet 2014, Louis de Funès aurait eu cent ans.
Pour célébrer cet anniversaire, différents évènements sont annoncés (exposition, rétrospective, soirées thématiques), répartis jusqu'à la fin de l'année.
Pour prendre part aux réjouissances, la collection Ecoutez le cinéma ! est fière de présenter ce coffret exceptionnel de 4 CD, projet discographique le plus ambitieux jamais consacré à l'interprète du gendarme Ludovic Cruchot.
Le concept : réunir chronologiquement dans une même anthologie les partitions defunesiennes emblématiques.
En cinq heures de musique, tous les grands films défilent : Fantômas, les Gendarmes, Le Corniaud, La Grande vadrouille, Oscar, La Folie des grandeurs, Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob… au fil des partitions nerveuses et très rythmiques de Georges Delerue, Michel Magne, Raymond Lefèvre, Michel Polnareff, Vladimir Cosma.
Au détour du programme surgissent des bandes originales jamais publiées en disque (Hibernatus), des films du vedettariat naissant (Une souris chez les hommes), des raretés absolues (les maquettes de tournage des Grandes vacances, une chanson enregistrée par Louis de Funès en 1952 pour Philips) mais aussi des relectures inédites, dont une version de L'Homme orchestre par Jean-Michel Bernard, compositeur d'élection de Michel Gondry. Lequel Jean-Michel Bernard a spécialement enregistré pour ce coffret le célèbre ballet du Grand restaurant, qui bascule de la danse de salon au casatchok.

Leider zünden bei mir Giacchinos Trek-Scores überhaupt nicht. Ein Trend, der für mich mit Goldsmiths letztem Score für die Reihe begann. Da lassen mich allerdings ein paar mehr Passagen positiv aufhorchen. Das Thema ist hübsch und nett sind die nostalgischen Zitate vor allem aus dem ersten Score Goldsmiths für Trek.

Das kommt überraschend!

Sicherlich sollte man sehr vorsichtig sein, dem Label hier Vorsatz unterstellen zu wollen. Wenn es so wäre, könnte es wieder mal eine Frage der "re-use fees" sein, siehe die Chorpassagen bei Giacchinos Star Trek. Synthchor ist billiger.
Ich weiß jetzt natürlich nicht, wie sich die Gebühren für Chorsänger entwickelt haben. Robert Townson hat vor vielen Jahren gesagt, die Chorpassagen wären für die CD zu Air Force One nicht finanzierbar gewesen. Die Gebühren für Orchestermusiker sind stark gesunken, die für Chorsänger nicht? (siehe die gar nicht so alte Diskussion über die Expandierung von Giacchinos Trek!).

Da wäre eine expandierte Neuauflage des Scores vielleicht sinnvoller gewesen. Aber das ist natürlich nicht das Prinzip der Vintage-Reihe.
