Wie es aussieht brütet Carpenter gerade neue Ideen aus, um als Regisseur zurück zu kommen, jedoch nicht für die große Leinwand, sondern für die kleine.

John Carpenter teased a return to the director's chair at the Cannes Film Festival, though it may be for the small screen.

“I'm working on some TV stuff and a couple of feature ideas,” he said, speaking at the American Pavilion, but careful not to give away any specifics. “It's a different time now, so it takes a long time for them to get set up. You'll know it when you know it. I don't know it [yet].”

Carpenter last directed 2010's The Ward, starring Amber Heard and Mamie Gummer, and has been focusing on music as well as executive producing.

The director also had a laissez-faire attitude toward remakes of his past films like the upcoming Escape From New York, saying he wouldn't want a say in Leigh Whannell's new version. But he added he enjoys the executive producer role.

“Based on something I've written, in that case I sit on my couch and put my hand out and a check arrives and I do nothing for it," he said. "That's the kind of remake I'm talking about."

However, any remake won't involve original star Kurt Russell in any role. “He's not interested in participating. His attitude is, 'We took the chance, why don't you take the chance? Why don't you go out and make something?” he said, adding: “He's always brave.”

Carpenter said he's a big gamer, with Deadspace and Fallout being favorites, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog. But he feigned offense at the upcoming live-action film. “What the hell is that? It's shocking,” he said.

He also added he's not upset by the similarities between Metal Gear Solid and the lead character from Escape From New York. “The director tried to buy me off, sent a free copy and said, 'You're such an inspiration,' and I thought, 'Why don't you send money?' But it's OK,” he said.

Carpenter encouraged young filmmakers and said it's a great time to be getting into the business as an indie — despite the difficulty in finding financing — because of the access young directors have to state-of-the-art equipment.

He is being honored with the Director's Fortnight Golden Coach award during the festival, which went to Martin Scorsese last year, and joked: “My getting this award was a huge mistake.”

IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS aufgenommen. Sie haben auch schon sehr gute Reviews zu THE THING und ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK gemacht.

Legendary composer/director John Carpenter has returned with his first non-soundtrack music since 2016’s Lost Themes II. Collaborating again with son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, his bandmates and co-composers for the David Gordon Green-directed Halloween films, Carpenter is sharing the propulsive new single “Skeleton” and its B-side, the haunting “Unclean Spirit.”

The sessions for these songs saw the trio shifting their focus from scoring for the screen and engaging a totally different creative muscle. Instead of being guided by what was happening in the world of Halloween, they were free to work toward other ends.

“It was refreshing to be able to write music that didn’t have to fit to any sort of locked image,” John said. “We also had a specific focus and direction we wanted to follow when working on Halloween, both in terms of mindset and instruments, and being able to return to working without that narrow focus was refreshing. Although working on Halloween didn’t specifically influence any of these new compositions, there is always a honing of craft that must take place when working on a film like Halloween, and our improved skills definitely helped us in writing these songs.”
