Was ebenfalls dafür spricht: Es wird keine Auflagenhöhe mehr angegeben. Keine Ahnung, wie lange Varese das schon nicht mehr macht. Die letzten Deluxe Editions, die ich gekauft habe, Carpenters VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED und Goldsmiths THE OTHER, hatten noch eine angegebene Auflagenhöhe. Hier steht jetzt nur noch "Limited Collector's Edition". Dann wird wohl nach Vorbestellungen gepresst, plus wohl noch einige Exemplare auf Halde und das war es dann.

Diese Frage stellt sich doch bei fast jeder Expandierung...

Vermutlich Letzteres: Eine Art Crowdfunding. Nicht „wieviele“, sondern „dass“ bezahlte Vorbestellungen eintreffen, wird des Rätsels Lösung sein. Danach gehen die CDs dann in Produktion. Machen diverse Verlage im Comic-Bereich auch, wenn das Geld knapp ist. Je länger die Vorlaufzeit, desto mehr Geld kann man einsammeln.

Tatsächlich freue ich mich auf diese Veröffentlichung. Damals war Brian Tyler noch wirklich gut.

Ob man sich wegen lediglich 13(!) Minuten denselben Score nochmal neu kaufen muss, stelle ich ernsthaft in Frage. Ja klar, es handelt sich um Jerry, die Nummer 1. Aber dennoch: Es wird seine Gründe haben, weshalb Jerry diese paar Minuten damals nicht aufs Album gepackt hat (sicherlich sind es nur Wiederholungen der bereits bekannten Passagen). Cashcow……

Das gabs bisher wohl auch noch nicht, dass die Veröffentlichung 2 Monate vor dem Versand angekündgt wird.

Wäre das nicht eine gute Möglichkeit gewesen, beide Scores als Doppel CD Deluxe zu veröffentlichen? Beim Goldsmith fehlt ja auch noch einiges auf der bisherigen Scheibe

Schöner Score (ich sach nur: The Trees) Aber: Warum wird sowas jetzt schon angekündigt, wenn es erst im nächsten Jahr tatsächlich kommt?

Absolut langweilige eintönige Musik ohne Tiefgang - typisch Brian Tyler. Wie kann man nur so eine prächtige große Leinwand bekommen und so versemmeln.

Einer meiner Lieblingsscores von Jerry Goldsmith. Bestimmt schon 50 mal gehört und wird nie langweilig. 👍

Wird bei mir auch so sein. Da ich die alte LP noch habe, hole ich mir nur die CD.

Sean Connery starred as a researcher doggedly pursuing a cure for cancer in the Amazonian rainforest, with Lorraine Bracco the drug company biochemist sent to check on his progress. Their friction grows into a romance as they interact with a native tribe and face off against destructive loggers. Medicine Man found its perfect composer in Jerry Goldsmith, a Hollywood master at adventure and thriller music who was, at heart, enamored with “people pictures.” Medicine Man called on both approaches, and Goldsmith rose to the occasion with a grand, tuneful, dramatic score encompassing large orchestra, sophisticated electronics and tropical instrumentation. It runs the gamut from catchy travelogues, a soaringly romantic love theme, and dark, tragic action music as the rainforest comes under threat. Director McTiernan, working with Goldsmith for the first time, recalls (in a new interview for this release) asking the composer to “try to make it as indigenous sounding as possible.” Editor Michael Miller marveled at Goldsmith’s ability to unify the film’s tone: “Jerry enhanced every emotional beat,” he says, “and glued a lot of stuff together amazingly well. The thing that really excited me were the turns from light and romantic and comedic, to dark and dire—because they were perfect.” Medicine Man was released as a 14-track, 50-minute CD by Varèse Sarabande in 1992. This Deluxe Edition adds 13 minutes of previously unreleased cues plus an alternate mix of the opening “Rae’s Arrival.” The new liner notes are by Tim Greiving, who can neither confirm nor deny that Sean Connery’s ponytail in the film was inspired by Goldsmith’s hair. Directed by Richard Donner (The Omen, Superman: The Movie, Lethal Weapon), the film was the last in a hugely successful run of high-concept, big-budget productions based on books by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park, Congo, Sphere). Timeline follows a group of present-day archaeologists and students who travel to the 14th century in search of their team leader, who previously visited via a corporation’s “wormhole” time machine. When the group becomes trapped in the past, they must survive a brutal conflict between England and France to find a way home. Most of the cast were little known at the time, but Paul Walker, Gerard Butler, David Thewlis and Michael Sheen went on to considerable fame. Timeline was originally scored by Jerry Goldsmith, but ongoing reedits to the project, and the composer’s failing health, forced him to bow out. Brian Tyler was recruited to write the score for the final release version, which he considered “a tribute to one of my favorite composers and a director I had long admired.” Tyler’s score is action-packed and pulses with suspenseful rhythms and large symphonic flourishes—capturing the romantic sweep of the characters’ adventure, with a tense and modern sheen. The tender and gentle theme for Paul Walker and Anna Friel’s characters’ love story (“Lady Claire”) offers moments of hope and tranquility amidst the drama and suspense. Schade, da hatte Stefan Recht: es wird nur der Albumschnitt. Mit Di Laurentiis oder dessen Erben ist wohl nicht zu verhandeln. Wieviel Musik fehlt denn da überhaupt noch? Bis auf das "Mañana"-Thema, welches öfter im Film zu hören war, will mir nichts mehr einfallen.

Och, ich hab das eigentlich schon genauso gemeint. Hier wird immer gerne am falschen Ende idealisiert. Wozu die (meist schwachen) Musiken zu Franchise-Produktionen mit Gleichberechtigung und Relativierung schützen, wenn die und deren Stil eh schon überproportional populär und einflussreich sind? Einer der Gründe für den musikalischen Verfall in der Filmmusik ist halt auch eine fehlgeleitete Aufmerksamkeitsökonomie: Zimmer, Marvel, Blockbuster- und Franchisemusik wurden und werden über alle Maßen diskutiert und rezipiert, weshalb auch junge Komponisten sich eher diesem Stil zuwenden als weniger diskutierten Idiomen wie Modernismus, Kammermusik, etc.pp.. Zwar ist es schön, dass experimentelle instrumentale Konzepte derzeit einen Aufwärtstrend erleben (Greenwood, Fendrix, Willis, etc.), aber es bedarf halt noch mehr, eigentlich ein absolutes Maximum an Aufmerksamkeit, um vielleicht irgendwann mal wieder einen breiten filmmusikalischen Aufschwung, eine neue goldene Ära der Filmmusik anzustoßen. Und dazu können wir alle beitragen. Stichwort: Aufmerksamkeitsökonomie.

Nein dann kam das falsch rüber. Es geht nicht ums Diskutieren per se. Ich wollte Sebastian zustimmen, dass das Meckern über die großteils miserable Score Qualität heutzutage nichts bringt. Ja, BADLANDS ist filmisch und kompositorisch Schrott - aber sich immer wieder über dasselbe Problem in der aktuellen Filmmusik aufzulassen bringt nichts. Da gebe ich Sebastian recht. Und da muss ich mir auch an die eigene Nase packen..

Nun hat sich die Vermutung bewahrheitet; in diesem Jahr kommt der Soundtrack zu "Zwei Missionare"....leider ohne zusätzliches Material. Musikalisch also nichts neues und der Soundtrack zählt ohnehin nicht zu den Highlights der Spencer/Hill-Reihe. Die CD werde ich mir dennoch holen; die LP habe ich im Grunde schon, auch wenn sie in die Jahre gekommen ist und auch nicht mehr so taufrisch aussieht. Tracklist 1.
