Eigentlich ein billiger Thriller von 1974, aber die beklemmende Atmosphäre und der fantastische und dazu passende Score haben mich dennoch begeistern können. Traurig: die beiden Komponisten kamen kurze Zeit nach den Dreharbeiten bei einem Autounfall ums Leben. In Deutschland erschien der Film unter dem Titel 'Die Axt'.

Von Quartet auf CD und LP: Quartet Records, in collaboration with GDM and EMI General Music, presents a CD reissue of Ennio Morricone’s iconic album COLORI, celebrating its 55th anniversary. The album was released in 1971 by General Music in Italy and was only reissued on CD in Japan in the early 1990s, making it a coveted collector’s item. This new CD edition has been remastered by Chris Malone from the original sources and retains the original cover featuring a painting by Alessandra Morricone—the composer’s daughter—as well as the original liner notes by Fabrizio Zampa. Jetzt auch auf Vinyl: Quartet Records, in collaboration with Paramount Pictures, presents a 2-LP edition of the complete, iconic score by Hans Zimmer for Ridley Scott’s 1989 action-suspense film BLACK RAIN, starring Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia as two New York City cops who arrest a Yakuza member and must escort him to Japan for extradition. BLACK RAIN was the first collaboration of Hans Zimmer with Ridley Scott, kicking off a creative partnership that would go on to produce some of the most thrilling film scores of the next two decades. Pressed on audiophile 140 GM transparent blue-neon vinyl, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold sleeve, this limited 2-LP edition has been painstakingly produced by Stéphane Humez and Dan Goldwasser; it was mixed and mastered by Maxime Marion with the supervision and approval of the composer. Den Film habe ich kürzlich erst wieder gesehen. Die Musik ist tatsächlich ziemlich schön und prägnant. Parker hat ja darüber hinaus auch die Musik zu JAWS 3-D geschrieben, seine wahrscheinlich bekannteste Arbeit.

Ich habe es ja nicht so mit Stereotypen oder festgefahrenen Schubladen, sondern mag vor allem eklektische Stile, erst recht, wenn sie düsterer, tiefer, 'alienhafter' klingen. Für diese Art Musik sollte man sich allerdings Zeit nehmen.

Dieser Horrorthriller von 1987 über eine skurrile, 'gottesfürchtige' Familie hieß im deutschen Verleih 'Dark Paradise'. Der wunderbare Piano-Score ist typisch für die damalige Zeit, und den müsst Ihr einfach hören.

Turok 2 war mein erstes PC-Spiel, da es der Grafikkarte beilag. Bis heute spiele ich immer mal wieder gerne besonders dieses 2. Level, da der Score so überwältigend ist.

Halli und Hallo, ich heiße Christian, bin 62 Jahre, EU-Rentner, fühle mich aber eher wie Mitte 30, komme aus Wuppertal und bin allein durch meine langjährige Sammelleidenschaft, die ich allerdings wegen Platzmangel aufgegeben habe, zu einer Art Musik- und Filmfreak geworden, wobei mein Terrain eher im obskuren Untergrundsektor liegt, auch wenn mein Musikgeschmack doch sehr breitgefächert ist. Eigentlich würde ich auch selber gerne noch Musik machen, aber wir leben gerade in einer ziemlich dystopischen Vorkriegszeit, um es mal euphemistisch auszudrücken. Ich hoffe, ich lasse mich davon nicht zu sehr beeinflussen. Ich fühle mich als Botschafter des guten - oder sagen wir - ungewöhnlichen Geschmacks. Ich hoffe, es gibt noch Musikliebhaber, die in dieser kurzlebigen, oberflächlichen Zeit noch die Muße haben, Tracks nicht nur im Sekundentakt zu zappen, sondern sich auch leidenschaftlich-innig darin reinzuhören, weil sie sich mit diesen tönenden Schwingungen identifizieren können.

Intrada announces an expanded edition of composer Bill Conti's sequel score to the Oscar®-winning Rocky. With Rocky II, Conti takes his original material from the first film and expands its scope as Rocky's world itself continues to expand. Though its themes were strikingly memorable and now legendary, Conti had scored Rocky sparsely, the film featuring just 30 minutes of score. For Rocky II, planned as a summer blockbuster, Conti wrote considerably more music, broadening its original themes and varying its melodies in a way that wasn’t immediately apparent, even as they echoed the original’s emotional heart. As album producer Neil S. Bulk notes in his Tech Talk, "Releasing an expanded CD for Bill Conti’s score to Rocky II has been a unique challenge. Extensive searches for the score in the MGM vaults only turned up two ¼″ reels. Luckily, these tapes were in stereo and contained final print takes and final mixes." While these tapes contained the most of the score, including cues not used in the final film, several cues are still missing (all of which are simply new recordings of cues from the original film). The album presents the expanded score presentation first, a nearly 42-minute program, followed by a bonus track and then the original LP program. The packaging is further adorned with liner notes by Daniel Schweiger. This new edition of Rocky II comes just in time to celebrate Bill Conti's 84th birthday! Check out the soundtrack trailer here! Interessant, zur Varese CD zu Viva Zapata habe ich auch diese Wahrnehmung. Ging mir allerdings damals schon so, als die Einspielung neu herausgekommen war. Sehr gut gefiel mir neulich beim erneuten Durchhören auch Virginia Woolf. Danach auch nochmal den unglaublich starken Film angesehen. Goldsmiths Album bewährt sich auch im direkten Vergleich.

Ich kann nur für mich selbst sprechen, aber für mich klingt die neue Abmischung nicht besser. Und selbst wenn dem so wäre: Wir müssen uns drauf einstellen, dass in den nächsten Jahren und Jahrzehnten immer wieder neue und (angeblich oder eventuell auch wirklich) verbesserte Versionen rauskommen. Ich habe damit inzwischen aber meinen Frieden gemacht, da ich es nicht einsehe immer wieder neues Geld für dieselbe (!) Musik auszugeben. Zumal die CDs immer teurer werden. Es macht für mich deutlich mehr Sinn die CDs, die ich bereits besitze, zu genießen - und nicht immer wieder neue Versionen kaufen zu müssen. Vielleicht finden Sie in 10 Jahren ja auch noch die „Recording Sessions“ der Klositzungen während der Aufnahme-Pausen von Jaws , wer weiß…..

magnum hat bei mir überlesen, dass es hier um das Master des LP-Schnitts geht.

Ich meine mich zu erinnern, dass im booklet der 2015er Version stand, dass es eine Mono Aufnahme ist und dass beim Mastering versucht wurde einen „Stereo“ ähnlichen Klang hinzubekommen.

Da drüben im FSM-Forum sind aber auch Knallköppe dabei... regen sich doch tatsächlich einige über den schwarzen Rand bei "Leben und sterben lassen" und "Octopussy" auf. 😁 Daß da manche nie mit dem zufrieden sind, was sie haben. Im Übrigen glaube ich nicht, daß wir einen Bond-Spekulationsthread benötigen, weil doch klar ist, daß LLL hier schnellstmöglich den Sack zumachen will. Ich denke auch nicht, daß noch Material unauffindbar ist, von "Dr. No" und "Liebesgrüße aus Moskau" mal abgesehen.

Das kapiere ich nicht: Wieso schreibt "Mistermaffay", daß das Quellmaterial nur in Mono vorhanden ist und "Trekfan" weiter unten "16-track multichannel master tapes"? Haut für mich nicht hin!

Von einer Verschlimmbesserung kann hier nicht geredet werden. Was auch immer man letztlich davon hält, es ist mal wieder ein ganz neuer Ansatz und eine andere Masteringphilosophie: "For this release, Universal created a new high-resolution transfer at 192k/24-bit that provided levels of detail previously unheard." Ja, das mit dem "levels of detail" unterschreibe ich, wenn ich z.B. an den delikaten Track "Father and Son" denke (für eine der schönsten je von Spielberg gedrehten Szenen). Aber Matessino kann eben auch nur damit arbeiten, was er hat. Zum Glück ist es bei Jaws nicht so dramatisch mit dem Zustand der Bänder wie bei "Towering Inferno", aber beide Scores werden nie herausragend klingen. Dann hat man hier in dem Set natürlich den LP-Schnitt: "Back in 2015 no one could locate the elements for the original soundtrack recording beyond the CD digital master made in 1992. In the intervening years, UME located the 2-inch, 16-track multichannel master tapes for the album recording. They transferred these in high-resolution as well and they proved to be in excellent condition." Ein Plus in der Box. CD 3 dokumentiert wie schon in dem letzten Set zu Hook die Genese des Scores, das ist eben von film- und filmmusikhistorischem Interesse. Ein hübscher Bonus ist eine alternative Konzertversion des Themas, die Williams nur hier einmal eingespielt hat. Ich kann von dem Kauf der Box nicht abraten.
