Habe vorgestern Leigh Phillips angeschrieben. Er schrieb zurück, dass es nicht mehr lange dauern dürfte, bis die CD's bei Intrada eintreffen würden. Die Etiketten für den Weiterversand sollen schon vorbereitet sein.

In der "The Battle (Film Version)" hört man nur die Streicher ohne Gerrards Gesang.

Gab es mittlerweile eine Information, wann die CDs verschickt werden? Sollten sie nicht bereits auf dem Weg sein?

Als ich gestern gelesen habe "Produced by: Robert Townson Deluxe Edition Executive Producer for Varese Sarabande Records: Cary E. Mansfield Deluxe Edition Mastered by Chas Ferry and Melinda Hurley" war mir schon klar, dass sie sich keine Mühe gemacht haben und es die alte Produktion, das alte Sequencing von Townson ist. So ist es wohl, abseits des behobenen Fehlers in Track 1. Mir war damals aufgefallen, dass diverse Overdubs fehlen, nicht nur der Dulcimer, sondern auch für Mancini typische Keyboards. So ist es wohl nach dem Bericht hier. Da hat jemand vermutlich bereits das digitale Album gehört

Hat jemand mittlerweile das Album erhalten und kann sagen, ob am Ende von "The Battle" nun wirklich nur Streicher zu hören sind oder gibt es auch wieder Gerrards Gesang dazu?

Wünscht man sich da fast, Arnold hätte den Film vertont? Echt interessant, dass dem mit CUTTHROAT ISLAND und THE PATRIOT zwei Projekte mit großartigen Voraussetzungen für die Musik durch die Lappen gegangen sind. Aber bei CUTTHROAT ISLAND haben wir ja trotzdem eine tolle Partitur bekommen. Ich denke, dieser pastorale Americana-Stil war eben, was man für den Film haben wollte und das hat Williams in Hülle und Fülle geliefert, ob man davon jetzt die Recording Sessions braucht, ist eine andere Frage, aber ich habe das alte Album noch nicht und werde wahrscheinlich bei der Intrada zuschlagen. Den Film habe ich erst vor Kurzem mal wieder gesehen, weil ich Lust auf einen pathetischen Historienschinken hatte. Es ist halt genau das, was es sein will: Ein nationalistischer pathetischer Historienschinken. Mich nervte aber, dass die Dramaturgie so dermaßen billig ist und das Publikum gar nicht darum herumkommt, wie es manipuliert werden soll was die Schwarzweißmalerei angeht. Aber es war schön, mal wieder ein Schlachtenepos ohne CGI-Zutaten zu sehen.

Die alte Doppel-CD habe ich spottbillig beim Colosseum-Ausverkauf geschossen - mit zig anderen. Das ist mittlerweile 13 Jahre her. Die Serie habe ich noch nie gesehen, mal sehen, ob der Dulcimer das wert ist...

Da ich kein absolutes Gehör habe, ist mir da nichts aufgefallen - zumal ich die Varèse nicht mehr gehört habe, seitdem ich die Intrada-Doppel-CD gehört habe. Aber ich finde, dass es vollkommen legitim ist, das Album "in print" zu halten, ist wirklich ein Meilenstein des Actionkinos, der Actionfilmmusik und in Goldsmiths Karriere. Aber ich denke, ich werde hier (erstmal) passen.

Das plant wie es ausschaut nicht Intrada, sondern wäre das nächste Projekt für Leigh Phillips.

Wie immer bei Wiederauflagen: Diesmal bin ich ein Kandidat, der noch keine Ausgabe des Scores besitzt und diese dann mit Handkuss nehme!

Das war auch mein erster Gedanke. Da wird im Jahr 2000 rumgemastert, rumgebastelt und expandiert, aber dass da Geschwindigkeitsdifferenzen sind, merkt niemand. Vor 25 Jahren wurde ja nicht unbedingt geschludert, sondern für mich das Gegenteil praktiziert als heute.

Na da kann man sich doch auch mal in Zimmers RCP-Schmiede noch umschauen und da noch bisschen was (expandiert) veröffentlichen.

A Little Princess (1995) is a cinematic gem from the early career of Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men, Gravity). Based on a 1905 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the fantasy drama is about a young girl subjected to the cruelty of her school headmistress in New York City after learning her father has died. In Cuarón’s masterful hands, the film is a joyous tribute to the power of imagination and the individual spirit. A Little Princess was the first of two films for Cuarón and Scottish composer Patrick Doyle (the second being Great Expectations). Cuarón and producer Mark Johnson had been impressed with Doyle’s symphonic and choral score for Henry V, his strong melodic sense and dramatic sensitivity. Doyle provided A Little Princess with a gem of a score, full of heartfelt themes, lilting waltzes, Indian flourishes (the protagonist had been living in India) and a marvelous sense of period storytelling. Choral passages include songs performed by star Liesel Matthews and Doyle’s then-young daughter. Doyle stays true to the ideal of childhood innocence, and the protagonist’s indomitable spirit, while taking the symphonic drama to Shakespearean heights. Varèse Sarabande’s 28-track 1995 soundtrack album is expanded in this Deluxe Edition with an 11-minute bonus section of unreleased cues and alternates with 7 tracks, including 3 suites. Varèse Sarabande presents a Deluxe Encore Edition of the 2CD soundtrack to The Thorn Birds, Henry Mancini’s television masterpiece. The Thorn Birds became the second-highest rated miniseries of all time when it aired in March 1983, behind only Roots. Based on the 1977 book by Colleen McCullough, the four-part program told the multigenerational story of the Cleary family, settlers in the Australian Outback of the early to mid-20th century, and the forbidden love of matriarch Meggie Cleary (Rachel Ward) and the family priest, Father Ralph de Briscassart (Richard Chamberlain). The all-star production won six Emmys, with a further ten nominations including Mancini’s score. For a career full of landmark achievements in television—from Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky to the miniseries The Moneychangers—The Thorn Birds is Mancini’s crown jewel. His score is as intimate as it is epic, with a lilting, Irish-flavored dulcimer theme for the Cleary family’s Irish roots and the beauty of the Australian countryside, as well as a bittersweet love theme, given lyrics by Will Jennings as “Anywhere the Heart Goes.” From the haunting moments of introspection to the large-scale setpieces, The Thorn Birds is as good as it gets. Ich verstehe die Kritik nicht. Ein Remastering der remastered Remaster-Dateien ist doch sinnvoll. Verdammt, bin ich Bill Murray oder warum ist hier schon wieder ein Murmeltier?

Ah ja … ist es mal wieder soweit? Thelma & Louise nun zum dritten Mal in relativ kurzer Zeit. Der Score ist OK. Aber andere immer noch unveröffentlichte Scores (vor allem aus dem Golden Age) wären wichtiger. Irgendwie wird inzwischen zu oft Hans Zimmer veröffentlicht - sind die drei großen J‘s ausgelutscht oder was ist los?!😄

Wäre schon cool, wenn der Stretch Goal auch erreicht würde und THE WALTONS erscheinen dürfte. Ist eine meiner Lieblingsserien.
