Music Composed by Richard Wagner

Adapted and Supervised by Erich Wolfgang Korngold

Williams Dieterles 1955 film biography was the last film to be scored by the great Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Though retired from film scoring since 1947, Dieterle coaxed the master composer into returning in order to adapt and supervise all of the films music. Korngold would be free to choose repertoire, artists, orchestra, chorus and the recording venue, and Korngolds wishes in musical/dramatic matters were to be adhered to without any interference. So while the music is by Wagner, this is Korngolds baby, through and through. And what a baby it is! Magic Fire is a thrilling tribute from one legendary composer to another. The soundtrack also exhibits Korngolds utter mastery at the piano.

The film starred Alan Badel as Wagner, Carlos Thompson as Franz Liszt and also featured both Yvonne De Carlo and Peter Cushing. Even Korngold himself appeared, playing conductor Hans Richter.

Magic Fire is a priceless historic document and a truly magical musical creation all its own.

The final curtain call of the great Erich Wolfgang Korngold is at last available on CD.

This special commemorative edition remembers both Erich Wolfgang Korngold and his son, the legendary music producer George Korngold. November 2007 marks the 50th anniversary of Erichs death and the 20th anniversary of Georges. Neither will ever be forgotten.

The CD features the original extensive liner notes by George Korngold.

THE TALL MEN

CDs will begin shipping the week of December 3.

Limited Edition of 1500 copies

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Music Composed and Conducted by Victor Young

A western. A big, sprawling western. A big, sprawling Victor Young western! Interested?

Raoul Walsh directed and Clark Gable, Jane Russell and Robert Ryan starred. The Tall Men has cattle drives, Indians and romance all rolled into one tall tale.

The film was a 76-day shoot involving Durango, Mexico and Sun Valley, Idaho. Four thousand head of cattle were assembled, along with 1,500 Mexicans! This film was big! And Victor Youngs score had no problem stretching out to Cinemascope proportions itself.

Appearing on CD for the very first time, and including both the final take and a never-before-heard demo of Ken Darbys title song, The Tall Men is one big, tall exciting release!

BY LOVE POSSESED

CDs will begin shipping the week of December 3.

Limited Edition of 1500 copies

Music Composed and Conducted by Elmer Bernstein

Yet another classic score that would have been completely lost were it not for Elmer Bernstein himself keeping an archival tape copy in his own collection.

By Love Possessed (1961) is, without a doubt, one of Elmer Bernsteins romantic classics. It is a sumptuously gorgeous work composed for John Sturges film based on James Gould Cozzens 1957 novel. The film starred Lana Turner, Efram Zimbalist Jr., Jason Robards, George Hamilton, Susan Kohner, Thomas Mitchell and Barbara Bel Geddes and told the story of the interlocked romantic, familial and ethical problems swirling around the three partners of a small New England law firm.

The story and the setting allowed Bernstein to create a score of exceptional diversity. From soaring love themes and pastoral beauty to rambunctious action and even some of Bernsteins classic jazz By Love Possessed really has it all.

If you dont know the film, dont let that stand in the way of discovering what will surely become a favorite Bernstein CD. This one is an absolute gem.

John Avildsens 1981 film Neighbors may not be a comedy classic, but it sure has a story to tell.

It starred John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd and was Belushis final film, (he died mere months after filming was completed). Neighbors was originally scored, at Belushis urging, by Tom Scott, who was a founding member of the Blues Brothers Band and, prior to release, was rescored at lightning speed by longtime Avildsen friend Bill Conti.

Listening to both Scotts and Contis scores back to back, which this CD allows as both are included, leaves one a little bewildered over how they could possibly be for the same film. Tom Scotts efforts resulted in a skilled and stylish score melodic and dark, in a wonderfully gothic sense. Contis score is absolutely wild and utterly madcap. Conti works overtime in an effort to actually make this comedy funny.

With the release of his at times hyperactive score for Neighbors, our Bill Conti festival continues and this time also allows us to rescue a wonderful score by Tim Scott that has been locked away for over 25 years. What a revelation!

Surprised?

Were back!

Joel McNeely and Robert Townson have recorded a new Bernard Herrmann album, and this time theyve headed North by Northwest! for the most complete edition of this legendary score ever available.

One of the all-time classic film scores a Herrmann/Hitchcock masterpiece gets a brand new and revelatory recording! Its amazing how many mysteries and secrets even some of the most famous film scores of all-time can still hold. Who would have thought that there could still be never-before-heard cues from North by Northwest? And were not talking about a 30-second fragments. The Highway, a cue that turns out to be the second longest cue of the whole score, receives its world premiere recording here. On The Rocks is heard in its entirely for the very first time, restoring all the edited material from the film and subsequent soundtrack. Weve also restored extra bars all over the place including Conversation Piece and Finale that have only been heard on the old Varèse Sarabande CD conducted by Laurie Johnson.

Finally complete, and at over 65:00 of Bernard Herrmann, Joel McNeely leads the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra in a recording milestone.

Für mich wäre diesmal höchstens "North By Northwest" interessant.
