  1. This just in via Facebook: LLL bringt mit THE CHALLENGE einen feinen Goldsmith-Score und auch Navarettes THE HOLE raus: THE CHALLENGE kriegt aber ein echtes Drecks-Cover, imho: LLL-Artwork, immer gut für ... Gequengel.
  2. Ich spendiere mal trotz der bereits erfolgten Kurzankündigung noch eine eigenständige Annonce: Beide Titel kosten bei Intrada selbst jeweils $19.99 zuzüglich Versand und ggf. Steuern.
  3. Label: Intrada Special Collection Volume 224 Date: 1976 Tracks: 34 Time = 66:58 A mystery is solved! Intrada premieres two scores for same 20th Century Fox film, yet neither is in finished picture! Jerry Goldsmith fans know when composer is unavailable to score movie, final soundtrack from Andrew V. McLaglen western becomes compilation of selected tracks from earlier Fox/Goldsmith pictures including 100 RIFLES, RIO CONCHOS, MORITURI, STAGECOACH. But few fans know Lionel Newman actually re-recorded same selections at Fox with intention of using all-new recordings timed specifically for picture. Ironically, due to time pressure, famed music editor Len Engel and young Ken Hall instead end up cutting music for picture with actual original recordings, planned initially just as temporary placeholders while Newman newly-records same sequences. Even fewer fans know Leonard Rosenman actually writes complete score for film, long before Goldsmith music becomes involved! Tale of sadism and revenge with Charlton Heston, James Coburn is deemed harsh, unpleasant by Rosenman. With little sympathy for either character, composer focuses on tough landscapes, brutality inherent in story. Resulting music is harsh, brittle, full of tension, violence. Atonality abounds. Classic Rosenman! Only exciting finale ("End Titles") provides respite. Studio found score TOO reflective of grim movie, brought more accessible Goldsmith library tracks into play. Unusual Intrada CD offers both rejected scores: unused Rosenman score in stereo AND unused Goldsmith cues newly conducted by Lionel Newman in mono! Nick Redman, Mike Matessino produce, Matessino also offers insight into film production and troubled music history behind it. Leonard Rosenman conducts his score, Lionel Newman conducts Goldsmith score. Intrada Special Collection release available while quantities and interest remains! 4. HOOSIERS Label: Intrada Special Collection Volume 226 Date: 1986 Tracks: 17 Time = 59:48 At last! Long-awaited world premiere complete presentation of endearingly popular Academy Award-nominated score by Jerry Goldsmith to endearingly popular sports drama starring Gene Hackman, directed by David Anspaugh, written by Angelo Pizzo. Goldsmith score originates on wonderful LP with duration of 39 minutes but never appears on CD in U.S. International releases (some under U.K. title Best Shot) all have same contents as original LP. Goldsmith emphasizes rousing basketball music but, interestingly, omits several more serious ideas from his album, including one important theme represented only in this new complete version. Titled "No More Basketball", saddened cue offers haunting tune for woodwinds, strings and actually appears twice in finished film. Another important new cue is "Someone I Knew", featuring serious solo line for cello over strings as Coach Dale (Hackman) confesses tragic mistake in his past. Rich piece is darkest moment in score and brings entirely new level to Goldsmith's impressive score. Also find for first time transparent, delicate piece ("The Gym") underscoring small town team's first sights at big-time gymnasium plus rousing orchestral fanfare ("Free Shot") for regional finals. Several other new cues add additional depth as well. Goldsmith was fond of his score, even creating a couple of beautiful longer cues out of shorter ones for his original album. We have retained those assemblies while otherwise presenting complete score in picture sequence. The best of both worlds! Highlights abound in this moving musical slice of Americana but unforgettable trumpet solo playing main theme for opening & closing of score stands front & center. Intrada proudly presents entire score from actual digital session masters combining mixing talents of two legendary engineers: Mike Ross, Bruce Botnick. Project took years to develop, finally came together through courtesy of both MGM, Universal Music. A definitive presentation of one of Goldsmith's most beloved works! Jerry Goldsmith conducts.
