Bei SCREAM 4 blieb das (osteuropäische?) Orchester weit hinter den Erwartungen zurück, weshalb mit Samples "aufgedickt" werden musste bzw. ganze Passagen durch Sample-Versionen ersetzt wurden. Dadurch wirkt das Klangbild seltsam künstlich und billig. Da die Tyler-Scores wieder in Hollywood aufgenommen wurden, bin ich guter Dinge, dass uns ein solches Debakel diesmal erspart bleibt.

5.-7.Juni natürlich. Konzerte finden aber statt und werden von Stephane Devane dirigiert.

JOHN WILLIAMS hat sein Dirigat und seine Anwesenheit in Berlin vom 5.-7.Juli aus gesundheitlichen Gründen abgesagt! Werd ich also zu seinen und meinen Lebzeiten NICHT im selben Raum mit dem Maestro sein können.

Wieso kurios? Von den "Großen" habe ich fast alles, was ich brauche und die Musik der o. g. "kleineren" Komponisten, meist mit TV in Verbindung gebracht, finde ich ebenfalls toll. Da gibt es leider nur sehr wenig und Originales fast gar nichts, bis auf die "Miami Vice"-CD.

In Zeiten des Streamings hat sich eben viel geändert. Veröffentlicht ist veröffentlicht, auch wenn es kein physisches Medium ist. Man kann sich den Score zumindest auf seiner Homepage anhören, also ist er ja veröffentlicht, wenn auch nicht auf den gängigen Plattformen. Physisch wurden ja auch einige seiner anderen aktuellen Scores bisher nicht veröffentlicht, wie WHITE NOISE oder DOLITLLE beispielsweise oder selbst BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE. Von letzterem gibt es nur den Sampler mit den Songs und zwei Score-Tracks von Elfman auf CD und LP.

einerseits Grund zur Freude, Tylers Scores waren bei weitem nicht so gut wie Marcos (wenn man sie überhaupt gut nennen kann von Tyler), aber SCREAM 4 war leider auch eher lieblos von Marco... was eher an den horrenden Arbeitsbedingungen gelegen hatte anscheinend, aber na hoffen wir mal er legt sich hier wieder ins Zeug mit seinem Team und die Reunion mit Williamson bringt vielleicht auch Schmiss hinein...

haha das is ja ne kuriose Auswahl 🙂 aber naja, bei WOMAN IN THE WINDOW wars Elfman dann wohl egal mit der Veröffentlichung? Ich glaub auch, die LP is eher al Souvenir zum hinstellen gedacht... ne CD wird für die Optik nicht gekauft...

All I can say by way of an update is the books are still moving forward, I have every reason to believe you will all get your books this year, and I'm hopeful they may go out by summer. As I've said, I have no control over this—my understanding is that Taylor has obtained some much needed assistance that should help wrapping up whatever loose ends remain: there's a certain amount of heavy lifting, figurative or literal, that he's been lacking personnel to accomplish and hopefully this should hasten getting to the finish line. I'm sorry to be vague but I'm giving you all the details I know about. My feeling is that supplying further PDFs or other rewards is likely not desired at this point and that people just want their books--I know I do. So I would hope any further updates would simply announce a timeframe when the books WILL be delivered and that anything else is off topic. So I'm happy to chime in and say "we're still here" when necessary but until the books are actually going out to people there's nothing to report at my end. As always I understand the frustration and aggravation, just stay tuned.

Megageile VÖs. Speziell den Silvestri finde ich eine schöne VÖ-Überraschung. Ich finde seine Synthscores genau so gut wie seine großorchestralen Werke. Musicbox und auch Quartet bringen für mich immer wieder Überraschungen raus. Zwei wirklich kostbare Label, die wir hier in Europa haben! ❤️

Ich bin da auch immer wieder erstaunt, warum man nicht wenigstens auch eine kleine Auflage an CDs produziert. So viel teurer als die Produktion der LPs kann das ja nicht sein, eher im Gegenteil. Aber das wird im Vorfeld schon durchgerechnet worden sein. Vielleicht ist es ähnlich wie im Filmbereich. Wenn ein Label wie Turbine oder Plaion mal wieder eine dicke Collector's Edition von einem Film oder einer Serie veröffentlicht, und diese Editionen sind wirklich mit viel Aufwand und viel Liebe gemacht, werden auch immer wieder Stimmen laut, warum es das nicht auch als normale Amaray für 15 Euro gibt. Eben für die Leute, die den ganzen Bonus-Schnick-Schnack nicht brauchen. Die Antwort der Label ist da immer, dass sich normale Amarays einfach kaum noch verkaufen. Damit könnten sie nie die Kosten decken, die das Projekt verschlungen hat. Daher machen sie es so, dass sie erst die teureren Boxen, Mediabooks und Steelbooks bringen. Und wenn die dann abverkauft sind, werden vom Gewinn daraus, je nach Popularität des Titels, noch normale Amarays nachgeschoben. Machen sie nicht immer, aber doch bei einigen Titeln mittlerweile. So arbeiten die Soundtrack-Label ja im Grunde auch, wo die immer noch gut laufenden Verkäufe der zehnten Neuauflage von DIE HARD oder HOME ALONE die Kosten für andere Projekte decken, die nicht so populär sind. Große Label sind aber scheinbar nicht auf die Peanuts angewiesen, die ihnen die paar CD-Verkäufe bringen würden. Daher lassen sie es eben ganz sein und konzentrieren sich auf das, was momentan eben noch gut verkauft wird. Und das sind nunmal LPs. Ich bin mir sicher, dass sich CDs von BLACK PANTHER oder eben DOCTOR STRANGE auch noch verhältnismäßig gut absetzen ließen, einfach auch, weil Elfman und Göransson schon zwei bekannte Namen sind und es eben Marvel ist. Aber scheinbar sieht man keinen großen Nutzen in dem Aufwand, davon CDs produzieren zu lassen. Die überteuerten LPs werden dazu einfach noch zu oft gekauft.

Caldera Records proudly presents John Cameron’s score for the Agatha Christie adaptation “The Mirror Crack’d.” In the 1970s the British film industry saw two of its biggest successes with its adaptations of “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Death on the Nile.” Thus, producers were eager to bring more of Agatha Christie’s works on the screen. To replicate their previous two hits, John Brabourne and Richard Goodwin optioned “The Mirror Crack’d From Side to Side.” Angela Lansbury played Miss Marple. At her side: Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, Tony Curtis, Kim Novak, Edward Fox, and Geraldine Chaplin. A large part of the script for “The Mirror Crack’d” is devoted to jibes and insults exchanged between movie stars, their producer, and director. It is 1953 and everybody is on edge as they arrive in the sleepy English village of St. Mary Mead, home of Miss Marple, to make a new film. The director hates the producer, who is intimate with the film’s star, who hates her co-star, who is married to the director. Said co-star, Marina, knows she is past her prime, but is looking forward to cutting her teeth on a historical epic. Unfortunately, from the beginning nothing goes according to plan. And soon there is a body. By 1980, John Cameron had long since cut his teeth in film. Among his biggest successes to that date were Ken Loach’s “Kes" (1969), and “A Touch for Class" (1973), which had garnered him an Oscar nomination. “The Mirror Crack’d” allowed him to showcase his versatility as a composer. His score consists of three elements: a theme for the film’s main character, Marina; tense suspense music, and a jolly village tune that pays homage to the film’s setting in 1953’s England. Although the film takes place in that period, Cameron was wary of nostalgia. Rather than situating his score stylistically in the past, he sought to bridge the gap between the 1950s and 1980s. The use of the saxophone was a logical choice since it had been employed in the middle of the century and since then found increasing popularity in rock and soul music. John Cameron crafted a colorful and memorable score to what has become a crime classic. We are pleased to make it available for the first time on an album and are grateful to StudioCanal for working with us on the project. Ja, glaube auch, dass dies die Überlegung der Produzenten sein könnte - nur ob es so aufgeht erscheint mir wie oben geschrieben eher unwahrscheinlich. Einen kleinen Markt zusätzlich zu beschneiden (wo das Franchise zudem beschränkt ist) bleibt aus meiner Sicht eine komische Strategie.
