A Little Princess (1995) is a cinematic gem from the early career of Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men, Gravity). Based on a 1905 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the fantasy drama is about a young girl subjected to the cruelty of her school headmistress in New York City after learning her father has died. In Cuarón’s masterful hands, the film is a joyous tribute to the power of imagination and the individual spirit. A Little Princess was the first of two films for Cuarón and Scottish composer Patrick Doyle (the second being Great Expectations). Cuarón and producer Mark Johnson had been impressed with Doyle’s symphonic and choral score for Henry V, his strong melodic sense and dramatic sensitivity. Doyle provided A Little Princess with a gem of a score, full of heartfelt themes, lilting waltzes, Indian flourishes (the protagonist had been living in India) and a marvelous sense of period storytelling. Choral passages include songs performed by star Liesel Matthews and Doyle’s then-young daughter. Doyle stays true to the ideal of childhood innocence, and the protagonist’s indomitable spirit, while taking the symphonic drama to Shakespearean heights. Varèse Sarabande’s 28-track 1995 soundtrack album is expanded in this Deluxe Edition with an 11-minute bonus section of unreleased cues and alternates with 7 tracks, including 3 suites. Varèse Sarabande presents a Deluxe Encore Edition of the 2CD soundtrack to The Thorn Birds, Henry Mancini’s television masterpiece. The Thorn Birds became the second-highest rated miniseries of all time when it aired in March 1983, behind only Roots. Based on the 1977 book by Colleen McCullough, the four-part program told the multigenerational story of the Cleary family, settlers in the Australian Outback of the early to mid-20th century, and the forbidden love of matriarch Meggie Cleary (Rachel Ward) and the family priest, Father Ralph de Briscassart (Richard Chamberlain). The all-star production won six Emmys, with a further ten nominations including Mancini’s score. For a career full of landmark achievements in television—from Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky to the miniseries The Moneychangers—The Thorn Birds is Mancini’s crown jewel. His score is as intimate as it is epic, with a lilting, Irish-flavored dulcimer theme for the Cleary family’s Irish roots and the beauty of the Australian countryside, as well as a bittersweet love theme, given lyrics by Will Jennings as “Anywhere the Heart Goes.” From the haunting moments of introspection to the large-scale setpieces, The Thorn Birds is as good as it gets. Ich verstehe die Kritik nicht. Ein Remastering der remastered Remaster-Dateien ist doch sinnvoll. Verdammt, bin ich Bill Murray oder warum ist hier schon wieder ein Murmeltier?

Ah ja … ist es mal wieder soweit? Thelma & Louise nun zum dritten Mal in relativ kurzer Zeit. Der Score ist OK. Aber andere immer noch unveröffentlichte Scores (vor allem aus dem Golden Age) wären wichtiger. Irgendwie wird inzwischen zu oft Hans Zimmer veröffentlicht - sind die drei großen J‘s ausgelutscht oder was ist los?!😄

Wäre schon cool, wenn der Stretch Goal auch erreicht würde und THE WALTONS erscheinen dürfte. Ist eine meiner Lieblingsserien.

Noch knapp 24000€ (ohne den Stretch Goal) und eine Woche verbleibt noch, den "Chairman" über die Ziellinie zu bringen. Zwar sind die vier Bonustracks aus Under Fire, Rambo II, etc. auch interessant, aber der "Chairman" ist mir persönlich wichtiger. Ich hoffe es klappt und appelliere an alle, die noch damit hadern, sich daran zu beteiligen. Meines Erachtens eine Musik, die sich überaus lohnt und ein Meilenstein seines Schaffens der späten 60iger. Die Musik empfand ich auch als wegweisend in Hinblick seines musikalischen Ausdrucks seiner Scores aus den 70iger und 80igern.

Hatte die Tage noch mal HotD S01 und S02 hier in meiner Playlist laufen lassen. Danach habe ich dann die GoT-Staffeln und sowie Westworld (jeweils separat natürlich) laufen lassen. Gefühlt liegen da irgendwie Welten zwischen was Kreativität, Abwechslung und eingängige Themen angeht. Die Scores von House of the Dragon plätschern irgendwie ein bisschen lustlos vor sich hin und so richtige Perlen sind da auch nicht bei. Geht das nur mir so? Die Resonanz war hier ja ziemlich positiv.

einer muss ja! 🙂 Mal zu nem AR RAHMAN Konzert dann gehen!

Für viele scheinbar schon. Zumindest habe ich das mal in einem Artikel gelesen, dass fast die Hälfte der Leute, die heute noch neue Platten kaufen, diese gar nicht abspielen. Entweder, weil sie gar keinen Plattenspieler haben, dann wird sie an die Wand gehängt, oder weil sie nur zu Sammelzwecken im Regal landet. Daher zielen viele Veröffentlichungen ja auch darauf ab. Also entsprechend poppiges Artwork und buntes Vinyl, weil eben die Optik zählt. Was die Käufer mit den Platten machen, ist den Labels ja egal. Hauptsache, sie kaufen es.

Die ganze Deluxe-Edition soll wohl ein Problem mit dem "speed" haben und "pitched up" sein, also mit veränderter Tonhöhe im Vergleich zum Film und der Varese CD aus dem Jahr 2000. Mir ist ist das nie aufgefallen, habe auch gerade nochmal alte Rezensionen nachgelesen. Tja, bringt man Leute so zum Neukauf oder ist da wirklich was dran? Andererseits ist es natürlich trotzdem schön, dass dieser Score verfügbar für neue Käuferschichten bzw. -generationen ist. Und Intradas Deluxe ist von 2010 und daher auch schon ein Weilchen her.

Japan, Indien... du kommst aber auch rum.

Newton Brothers sind immer hit and miss... von ihren Scores zu Flanagans Sachen finde ich eigentlich alles super, für andere Filme und Serien dagegen finde ich alles eher schrecklich...

ich hoffe die fragen dann vorm Verschicken nochmal nach wo es hinsoll, ich wohne jetzt in Indien und ich weiss nicht, wo ich die adresse für die Lieferung ändern kann... ich weiss auch gar nicht mehr, welche Adresse ich damals angegeben habe, ich glaube da hab ich noch in Japan gewohnt... haha

es kauft halt auch kaum mehr ne CD... bei ner LP ist schlicht "Das sieht schick aus, wenn es rumsteht" doch der grössere Reiz des Kaufs... oder?

Jeff Bond sollte sich in Zukunft einen verlässlicheren Verleger und nicht so eine Pfeife wie Taylor White suchen....

Das tut mir sehr leid für Dich. Weniger leid tut es mir für diejenigen, die gehofft hatten, auf dem Schwarzmarkt den grossen Reibach zu machen. Bei mir persönlich lindert es den Frust ein wenig, trotz Dauergeklicke auf der Homepage der Berliner keine Chance auf ein Ticket gehabt zu haben. Wahrlich ein schwacher Trost für Dich. Ich hatte im Jahre 2021 das Glück, den guten John live in Wien zu erleben. Gib die Hoffnung einfach nicht auf. Vielleicht ergibt sich ja trotzdem noch etwas.

Vielleicht bringt ja LaLa Land mal eine erweiterte Fassung heraus. Für mich eine absolut herausragende Musik: tragisch, dramatisch und wunderschön, alles zur gleichen Zeit.

Solange Intrada solche Werke wie The Chairman oder A & C meet Frankenstein veröffentlichen, können sie auch ihre alten CDs gerne neu auflegen. Anfang des letzten Jahres kamen tatsächlich sehr viele Rereleases, da hatte ich schon befürchtet, dass nur noch sporadisch etwas Neues kommt. First Blood aber ist eines von Goldsmiths Hauptwerken und daher auch verständlich und gut, dass er für Fans erhältlich bleibt.

Mit "Highlander" rechne ich erst nächstes Jahr, wenn der Film 40 wird. Da gibt's dann bestimmt wieder auch so eine dicke "QUEEN"-Sammleredition um das Album "A Kind Of Magic" herum. (Vielleicht ist der Soundtrack da dann sogar mit drin.)

Verstehe nur nicht ganz die Häme jedes Mal. Denn die Labels „verpäppeln“ ja nicht mit Absicht ihre Hörerschaft. Klar ein FIRST BLOOD wird nur minimalst verändert nochmal veröffentlicht, weil der sich eben auch in der Regel gut gekauft wird. Und die Labels brauchen eben auch Einnahmen. Da steht dann das wirtschaftliche über dem künstlerischen womöglich, aber ohne Geld läuft es eben auch nicht. Wir wissen doch mittlerweile zu Genüge wie kompliziert oder unmöglich es ist manche Titel zu veröffentlichen. In den Labels sitzen ja auch Liebhaber. Die hätten da manches bestimmt auch gerne veröffentlicht, aber es geht aus Gründen einfach nicht.

Naja: Ich mache eigentlich immer ein Upgrade bei Soundtracks, weil dann doch wenigstens ein paar Minuten neue Musik zu hören ist, unabhängig von einer Remasterung. Aber wenn jetzt wirklich nur minimale Korrekturen stattfinden, dann bleibe ich mit dem vorherigen Album glücklich. Ich finde in dem Zusammenhang die Kommentare im Internet zur kommenden Varese Club CD amüsant. Da schreiben die Leute sowas wie: “Der nächste Titel? Lasst mich raten: Irgendwas, was es schon auf CD gibt!“ Die Soundtrack-Hörer und Sammler teilen immer die Holy Grails mit, die nicht nur deren Wünsche sind, sondern die Wünsche Vieler. Aber dann kommt was völlig anderes. Quasi alle Schreien nach DEEP BLUE SEA und bekommen dann den „von allen lange ersehnten“ (?) PLEASANTVILLE. 😒
