Es ist schon für mich einer seiner schlechteren Scores, da mich die Musik kaum bis gar nicht anspricht. Alien steckt da drin und dazu ein Vorreiter seiner Action-Musik aus Battle beyond the Stars, Star Trek und Co. Gezündet hat der Score, ähnlich übrigens wie "Battle Beyond the Stars" bei mir nie.
Daher reicht mir auch das Release, welches ich schon im Regal stehen habe, wo auch die Musik von Christopher Lennertz zum Remake drauf ist.
Also von meiner Seite eher ein Nay. 

Doch dazu sollte man sagen, dass es einer seiner ersten (oder sogar der erste) vollorchestralen Scores war, wie bei "Battle beyond the Stars" dirigiert von David Newman. Der Score hat auch seine Fans, aber ich würde dir raten, einfach mal auf YouTube reinzuhören.

Der Score ist aus historischer Hinsicht interessant. Wie klang der junge Horner, der erst dabei war seine Karriere aufzubauen. Über den Fund von so tollen Bändern bei BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS hätte ich mich mehr gefreut.

Genau das ist mein kaufgrund. Doch finde auch, wer sich so Scores wie ALIENS oder STAR TREK ins Herz geschlossen hat, der legt sich auch diesen Score zwischen die Herzflügel.

For mating.” So goes the movie taglines on posters marketing the film in 1980. The taglines pretty well sum up the picture. Key roles feature Doug McClure, Vic Morrow, Ann Turkel, legendary creature designer Rob Bottin fuses life from both land and sea into one grotesque “humanoid” creation, Barbara Peeters (and uncredited Jimmy Murakami) direct for Roger Corman’s New World Pictures. Picture tips hat heavily towards gore effects and sexual escapades of incoming 80’s “adult” material with closing nod in particular to 1979’s Alien. Composer James Horner writes his second score after The Lady In Red, showcases his understanding of the horror movie medium and his considerable composing talents with a score orchestrated for strings, woodwinds, piano, harp and percussion while leaving all brass at the door save a lone trumpet for select solo work. With reverberating echoplex in tow, Horner launches his “main title”. In following “Buck-O” (named for small vessel), Horner opens with exhilarating flourish for woodwinds and piano with xylophone punctuation to accompany the boat, first into adventure then horror. Other highlights abound: flute over harp and trilling violins bringing love theme into focus if only momentarily, intense string jabs mirroring “Jerry’s Death”, rousing strings punctuated by snare drum (snares off) and tympani that opens “Tommy’s Struggle”, mystery of complete “Hill House” finally erupting into moment of orchestral fury are just four of them. Entire score is all newly-remixed from recently discovered 2” 24-track session elements, reveals numerous orchestral colors buried in original 1980 mix, especially in woodwinds and percussion. For fans familiar with initial album that was released back in the day, new remastering of that oft-released production also appears, retaining Horner’s mix and program choice but with crisper and more detailed sound quality. Score recorded March 15 & 16 at Wilder Bros Studios in Los Angeles. Flipper-style artwork enhances package design by Kay Marshall, informative notes by John Takis. Auf der BSX-CD gab es ja zusätzlich zum Albumschnitt eine "Outtakes Suite" - ist diese jetzt hier in der 'complete version' versteckt ?

Da derzeit nicht viel veröffentlicht wird, habe ich habe jetzt einfach mal zugegriffen und bereue den Kauf nicht. Ich hatte bisher nur die alte GNP Crescendo CD mit den Albumschnitten von Humanoids und Battle Beyond the Stars, die ich im Jahr 2001 gekauft habe. Den Score zu Humanoids habe ich hier richtig neu entdeckt und in der herausragenden Klagqualität auf der expandierten  Intrada zu schätzen gelernt. Hier ist Horner unter schwierigen Bedingungen einer C-Produktion ein beachtliches Frühwerk gelungen. Natürlich sind gerade auch hier seine Vorbilder mit quasi-Zitaten von Goldsmith und Herrmann unüberhörbar, aber sein Personalstil ist voll entwickelt und sein Meisterwerk Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan entstand nur zwei Jahre später. Die CD werde ich noch öfter auflegen.

Ich finde auch, dass die Tonqualität durch den Fund anderer Master absolut gelungen ist. Also diese aktuelle Ausgabe rentiert sich mit einem Kauf!
