Wenn man dieser vollmundigen Ankündigung halbwegs Glauben schenken kann, dann müßte diese Veröffentlichung vom Standard her selbst die großartigen Rhino-Sets zu BEN HUR oder HOW THE WEST WAS WON etc. übertrumpfen... schließlich heißt es ja "never has there been as elaborate a production...".

this dvd presents a series of conversations about alex north and the score of spartacus

rather than approaching our on-camera discussions like a conventional documentary - with film clips, photos, and underscoring - we felt that it would be much more interesting to simply let these composers talk, expressing their own enthusiasm for alex north's work. To that end, the interviews are organized thematically but presented in their raw state, offering the experience of sitting across from these great musicians.

The interviews were filmed on march 5, 15 and april 6, 2010 in los angeles, california.

naja, das is ja quasi keine 20 dollar pro cd, das is schon ok, auch dickes buch und so dabei... aber das kommt natürlich noch in zoll und porto wird auch höher sein, aber na so oder so, nix für mich.

Also wenn man es mal aufs wesentliche reduziert braucht man eigentlich nur cd 1 und die hätte man auch für den normalen club cd preis bekommen können.

Diese spartacus love theme and variations disc scheint mir ziemlich unnötig zu sein und die hätte man auch besser als eigenständige cd veröffentlichen sollen. Ich brauch das jedenfalls nicht.

Und die beschreibung der doku ist ja mal ein witz: "Rather than approaching our on-camera discussions like a conventional documentary - with film clips, photos, and underscoring - we felt that it would be much more interesting to simply let these composers talk."

Mit anderen worten war varese zu faul/knauserig/uninteressiert daraus eine ECHTE doku zu machen und so haben wir nun das langweiligste überhaupt: talking heads! Es gibt bei einer doku nichts langweiligeres als das, ohne anschauungsmaterial die ganze zeit nur irgendwelche leute reden zu sehen. Und auch hier gilt: Das hätte man locker mal als eigenständige veröffentlichung herausbringen können.

Aber mal ehrlich, ich habe schon mit sowas gerechnet. Das mag jetzt zwar die aufwändigste veröffentlichung eines einzelnen scores sein, aber dafür kann sich diese veröffentlichung auch kein mensch leisten. Ich werde mir das diesmal fünfmal überlegen bevor ich so viel geld für eine cd und einen haufen kram ausgebe, den ich eigentlich garnicht haben will.

Zu den 107 Euro kommen aber noch die Zollkosten hinzu und da kommt es dann schon in die Richtung von 140 Euro.

Alles in allem sieht es nach einem sehr schönen Set aus und da ich die Musik noch nicht kenne, werde ich mir das Set wohl kaufen.

Sehe das ähnlich wie BigMac: Für Fans, die alles davon haben wollen: SUPER!

Für Fans, die NUR den eigentlichen Score möchten, ist es leider nicht das Richtige. Schade.

Aber wer weiss: Nach und nach wurden ja auch die Scores aus der FSM Box von anderen Labels rausgebracht.. vielleicht passiert das ja auch in einigen Jahren mit dem Spartacus Score?!

Ich würde jedenfalls nicht drauf wetten und selbst wenn habe ich eigentlich keine lust wieder so lange warten zu müssen.

Ich verstehe es echt nicht, warum es hier das mammut box set sein musste. Warum macht man nicht ein spartacus release festival und veröffentlicht ein 3-cd set mit dem score, die dvd, das buch und diese love theme compilation separat zum vollpreis und bietet für alle diejenigen, die alles haben wollen, einen rabatt an?

Und ich bin mal gespannt, ob in der talking heads doku mal die frage gestellt wird, warum denn der score so lange nicht auf cd erhältlich war und warum er komplett nur noch in mono vorliegt. Ich schätze mal diese wichtige frage wird keine rolle spielen, denn die antwort wäre: universal hat sich einen feuchten um den score gescheert und durch deren fahrlässigkeit gibts den kompletten score nur noch in mono.

kommt vielleicht ja noch... oder zumindest nur die single cd... bei dem Alter des Scores wunderts mich aber nicht, dass der nicht komplett in Stereo vorliegt...

naja, mach ich mir nun letztlich eh keine Gedanken zu... Alex North lässt mich nur erschaudern... hahahaha ;-)

Ich werde darauf erstmal getrost verzichten können, denn für das Geld bekomme ich bei den derzeitigen Label-Lagerräumungen durch 10-15 CDs, die mich wesentlich mehr interessieren.
