Snow Files of the Week: "Grow Up Superboy/Ferris Wheel" aus der Serie "Smallville" (2001).

3-CD premiere of all three Puppet Master Axis Trilogy scores by Richard Band! Sometimes referred as the Axis Trilogy, three titles appearing as ninth, tenth and eleventh films in highly successful horror franchise include: Puppet Master: Axis Of Evil, Puppet Master: Axis Rising and Puppet Master: Axis Termination. Chapter 9 had music released previously but this set also introduces music from chapters 10 and 11. Axis Of Evil (2010) is directed by David DeCoteau, produced by Charles Band, with Levi Fiehler, Jenna Gallaher, Taylor Graham. At the height of WWII, following murder of PuppetMaster Toulon’s crate of puppets by Nazis, Danny Coogan finds himself in battles of his own. Upon kidnapping of his girlfriend, Danny jumps into action to stop the Axis of Evil. Axis Rising (2012) is directed and produced by Charles Band, with Kip Canyon, Jean Louise O’Sullivan, Oto Brezina. Following events of previous chapter, Danny becomes embroiled in assassination plots and further mayhem, with puppets working together to stop the Axis Rising. Axis Termination (2017) is directed and produced by Charles Band, with Kevin Scott Allen, Tania Fox, Allen Perada. To conclude the trilogy, Toulon’s puppets work to stop the Third Reich in the ultimate battle to save the world. All three scores offer thematic unity, stylistic common ground, but each has unique musical traits as well. Band does utilize his now-familiar Puppet Master waltz theme but judiciously, primarily as opening and closing titles to bind scores with all earlier installments. Due to WWII setting, with locales including the Los Angeles Chinatown and a Japanese femme fatale, Band was also inspired to write some evocative material featuring shakuhachi accompanied by wood block percussion. And the Nazi have considerable musical clout with sinister motifs of their own. Axis Rising includes considerable militaristic percussion writing and a new “resurrection theme”. Axis Termination allows Band to contribute a degree of warmth and humanity in his scoring. All three CDs produced by Richard Band with mastering by Chris Malone. Featuring vivid, colorful packaging designed by Kay Marshall and informative booklet notes by Daniel Schweiger. Music composed, orchestrated and performed by Richard Band. By now everyone should know, John Carpenter is not only a celebrated filmmaker but also a musical maestro whose soundtracks have become synonymous with the genres of horror, suspense, and science fiction. Anthology II (Movie Themes 1976-1988) continues the celebration of his compositional genius via an excellently sequenced collection of some of his most iconic pieces of music from his extensive filmography, all newly recorded with his musical collaborators Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter. The compilation includes selections from Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, They Live, Assault on Precinct 13, Prince of Darkness, The Fog, Halloween (and its sequels), and beyond. Among its highlights are the three lost cues from The Thing, previously unreleased and now re-recorded. The Thing marks one of the rare occasions that John Carpenter stepped away from scoring duties and entrusted the task to another composer, the legendary Ennio Morricone. Upon receiving Morricone’s score Carpenter felt that the film would benefit from the inclusion of additional music and took the initiative to record and insert multiple synth driven cues. Anthology II (Movie Themes 1976-1988) represents just a fraction of John Carpenter's impressive musical repertoire. His ability to capture the essence of his films through evocative melodies, atmospheric soundscapes, and innovative use of synths has solidified his status as one of the most influential composers in the history of cinema. With each haunting note and pulsating beat, his soundtracks continue to resonate with audiences, forever etching his name in the annals of film music history. Track listing: 1. Chariots of Pumpkins (Halloween III) 2. 69th St. Bridge (Escape from New York) 3. The Alley (War) (Big Trouble in Little China) 4. Wake Up (They Live) 5. Julie’s Dead (Assault on Precinct 13) 6. The Shape Enters Laurie’s Room (Halloween II) 7. Season of the Witch (Halloween III) 8. Love at a Distance (Prince of Darkness) 9. The Shape Stalks Again (Halloween II) 10. Burn it (The Thing) 11. Die Song-CD ist eine reguläre Veröffentlichung. Den Score gibt es über Waxwork Records auf Vinyl und CD. Waxwork Records is proud to present BARBIE Score From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack composed by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt! The score is featured in the juggernaut film Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken. On composing the score, Ronson says, “Greta’s Barbie overflows with emotion in a way that inspired us to no end, not just with harmony and melody but also textures, sonics and rhythms. Sometimes Greta wanted us to elicit tears, sometimes she wanted it to feel like a disco. Sometimes she loved the warmth of vintage analogue synthesizers, sometimes she wanted the richness of the orchestra. Often, she wanted both. “The late nights and crazy hours we put into Barbie were all worth it to us, because we were so in love with this film. And we truly hope listening to our score from beginning to end will give others the same emotional, whimsical experience they had watching this magical film.” The highly anticipated film score vividly brings Gerwig’s vision to life and adds the perfect layer to the film that immerses fans into the Barbie Universe. Waxwork Records is thrilled to present BARBIE Score From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on several beautiful colored vinyl variants to choose from that all correspond to fun elements in the film, housed in heavyweight LP jackets with overall high gloss coating, with a 12"x12" insert. ***Some variants will be limited to 1 per person*** TRACKLIST SIDE A 1. Varèse Sarabande returns to the “scene of the crime” of one of the most storied filmmaker–composer relationships in history: Blood Simple, the debut film, score and collaboration between Joel and Ethan Coen and Carter Burwell. The original release of the score featured only 7 tracks (20 minutes) from Blood Simple on a 1987 soundtrack album to coincide with Raising Arizona. Now, 40 years after its 1983 recording, Carter Burwell has produced a new mix and album of Blood Simple. featuring 13 tracks and 35 minutes from the original multitrack session tapes. Daniel Schweiger’s detailed liner notes recount the genesis of the project and the unforgettable Coens–Burwell partnership. Varèse Sarabande revisits a classic horror soundtrack from its early catalog with April Fool’s Day, the 1986 black comedy/horror slasher film directed by Fred Walton and scored by Charles Bernstein. Thomas F. Wilson, Deborah Foreman, Clayton Rohner and other familiar faces from the 1980s star as college friends whose spring break trip to an island mansion unfortunately coincides with April Fool’s Day. Innocent pranks lead to a steadily rising body count as murders decimate the group—with a surprising twist climax. Bernstein found an unusual challenge in April Fool’s Day, which needed to evoke the slasher genre, but also have an element of “winking” to its audience. “We’re having fun with the horror genre—but it’s not a horror movie,” he says in the new liner notes by Brian Satterwhite. “My challenge was how to score a movie that wasn’t a horror movie but used horror tropes.” April Fool’s Day was released on LP (and later CD) by Varèse Sarabande, in a synthesized performance not heard in the film itself. That 20-track, 30-minute synth program is included on this Deluxe Edition, along with the long-awaited premiere release of the actual orchestral recording heard in the film (23 tracks, 27 minutes), plus previously unreleased bonus tracks. Snow Files of the Week: „Night Forest/Forest Search" aus „The X-Files", Episode „Pilot" (1993). So fing alles an. 1993, die erste Folge „The X-Files" mit einem für spätere Verhältnisse fast schon rohem Score von Mark Snow. Man merkt, dass hier noch alles neu war und alle Beteiligten sich erst einmal in dieser neuen Welt zurechtfinden mussten. Dennoch hört man auch hier schon die düsteren Klanglandschaften, mit der Snows Musik die Serie ebenso prägen sollte, wie seine wundervollen Themen. Viel Spaß beim Hören!

Und die „Rob Zombie Presents"-Reihe geht weiter: Rob Zombie and Waxwork Records have partnered to release an exclusive, curated line of classic Horror movie soundtracks. “Rob Zombie Presents” features several never-before-released film soundtracks that were personally selected by the singer, songwriter, and filmmaker. “I have always been a huge fan of movie soundtracks. So I jumped at the opportunity to work with Waxwork on this project.” Says Zombie, “I can’t wait to release these albums. So many of these films are greatly under appreciated and, they all contain such great music. So, to be able to release these deluxe packages is a dream come true.“ - Rob Zombie Rob Zombie and Waxwork Records are thrilled to announce “Rob Zombie Presents CARNIVAL OF SOULS Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Gene Moore". Starring Candace Hilligoss, CARNIVAL OF SOULS is a 1962 American psychological Horror film directed by Herk Harvey. The plot follows a young woman whose life is disturbed after becoming the sole survivor of a car accident. Trying to put the incident behind her, she moves to Utah to take up a job as a church organist. Unable to assimilate with the locals, her life is soon interrupted by visions of a ghoulish stranger. As her visions become more frequent, she finds herself strangely drawn to an abandoned carnival on the outskirts of town. The alluring, deserted carnival may hold the secret to her tragic past. CARNIVAL OF SOULS features an organ score by Gene Moore. Employing various guerrilla filmmaking techniques and shot on a shoestring budget of only $33,000, CARNIVAL OF SOULS has become a cult classic and has been praised by critics and film scholars for its cinematography and its stark, foreboding atmosphere. Waxwork worked closely with the owners of the original CARNIVAL OF SOULS film elements which have been restored by and archived in the vaults of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. AMPAS restored the soundtrack from the film's original soundtrack negative, allowing the holders of this historical film to provide Waxwork with the best possible source material. This special release marks the first, official CARNIVAL OF SOULS soundtrack album. In addition to the original soundtrack, this release features segments of dialogue and sound effects eloquently and tastefully included, all sourced from the restored original soundtrack negative. After working together on the successful release of the official soundtracks to Zombie’s films House of 1000 Corpses, The Devils Rejects, 3 From Hell, The Lords of Salem, Halloween 1 & 2, and The Munsters, Zombie explored other ways to collaborate with Waxwork in an effort to unearth, re-master, and release classic, left-of-center Horror soundtracks from films that he is a lifelong fan of. The line of soundtracks features deluxe packaging, heavyweight colored vinyl, new artwork by prominent Horror illustrator Graham Humphreys, liner notes and interviews conducted by Rob Zombie with filmmakers and actors. Titles include premiere releases of White Zombie, Spider Baby, Carnival Of Souls, The Last Man On Earth, The House On Haunted Hill, Island Of Lost Souls, and many selections from the HAMMER film library. Snow Files of the Week: "Prologue/Main Title/The Boys Find The Cave/The Kiss/Happy Ending" aus dem TV-Film THE LITTLE KIDNAPPERS (1990). Für diese Disney-Channel-Produktion konnte Mark mal wieder auf ein volles Orchester zurückgreifen. Der von einer Solo-Flöte eingeleitete "Main Title" mausert sich im weiteren Verlauf zu einem schwelgerischen Stück Musik und das Thema taucht auch immer wieder im Score auf. Die Musik betritt dann sogar beschwingte Kinderabenteuer-Pfade in Tracks wie "The Boys Find The Cave". Alles in allem ein klangschöner Abenteuer-Drama-Score, der wieder einmal zeigt, dass Snow auch abseits der X-Akten musikalisch durchaus zu überzeugen weiß. Die Musik ist, gekoppelt mit Snows Musik zu IN THE LINE OF DUTY: SMOKE JUMPERS, auf der "Mark Snow Collection Volume 1" von Dragon's Domain Records erschienen. Die CD ist auf 500 Exemplare limitiert. Viel Spaß beim Hören!

Snow Files of the Week: „No place like home/Silo" aus „The X-Files", Episoden „Triangle" und „Apocrypha" (1996-1998).

Neu von Quartet: Quartet Records, in collaboration with Sony EMI Music Publishing Italia and GDM, presents a greatly expanded release of an Armando Trovajoli gem from a Marcello Mastroianni comedy. Directed by Mario Monicelli in 1965, CASANOVA ’70 tells the story of UN diplomat Andrea Rossi-Colombotti, whose globetrotting adventures leave him sexually frustrated. Women throw themselves at the handsome man, but he unfortunately has performance issues: he can only get aroused if there is some sort of chase involved. The film showcases almost a dozen colorful episodes in this modern Casanova’s life as one woman decides to get him for good. Armando Trovajoli’s score features a central Casanova theme, which changes orchestration based on the nature of his adventures – though most cues retain a funky atmosphere and, like our hero’s performance, they are often cut short in a comedic fashion in the film. Luckily the album features the complete takes plus other highlights such as the esoteric, Asian-flavored cues for our Casanova’s psychoanalyst, as well as the cool percussion motive that sets up every “hunt” in the film. Previous LP and CD releases only featured about 30 minutes of highlights that included tracks that combined different cues. This 73-minutes-long CD begins with a largely chronological presentation, and includes in the bonus section several edits created specifically for the LP. Produced by Claudio Fuiano with the support of the Trovajoli estate, and mastered by Chris Malone, the release includes a lavishly illustrated 12-page book with liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score. For Marcello (2:56) Quartet Records, in collaboration with GDM, presents an Armando Trovajoli double-header with two infectious scores for classic Italian comedies by Dino Risi and Pasquale Festa Campanile, both released in 1969. VEDO NUDO is a portmanteau film directed by Dino Risi and starring Nino Manfredi in seven episodes of erotically charged madness. After the opening song, “Let’s Find Out” by Isabel Bond (accompanied by a suitably Bond-inspired titles sequence), the various episodes have different amounts and types of underscoring. Some are unscored, while others have wall-to-wall music, with the final segment, “Il dete nuto,” featuring the most amount of music for the funky 1960s photo shoots. Pasquale Festa Campanile’s DOVE VAI TUTTA NUDA? is a more traditional comedy about a love triangle between an employee, his wife and a boss – with a thief thrown in for good measure. The film is relatively sparsely scored with an obvious focus on the theme song, ‘Dove vai tutta nuda?’ performed by the film’s star, Maria Grazia Buccella and I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni. Trovajoli composed a short original score for this film, using some repertoire tracks and others that had just been recorded for VEDO NUDO. The selected highlights include the love theme for the married couple as well as the “Shake” played during the various break-ins of Vittorio Gassman’s master-thief character, Rufus Conforti. VEDO NUDO was previously released on CD only in a 1997 Japanese limited edition, and nothing but the theme song from DOVE VAI TUTTA NUDA? has been previously released. Claudio Fuiano produced this Quartet duo with the support of the Trovajoli estate, and Chris Malone mastered the audio. The lavishly illustrated 12-page liner notes by Gergely Hubai discuss the films and their scores. VEDO NUDO 1. Let’s Find Out (Titoli di Testa) (3:31) 2. Vedo Nudo (Diva Waltz) (2:16) 3. (Finale) (2:13) Quartet Records, in collaboration with Universal Music Publishing Italia and GDM, presents a greatly expanded edition of one of the most celebrated collaborations between composer Armando Trovajoli and director Ettore Scola. BRUTTI, SPORCHI E CATTIVI (1976) is about a poor outlaw family living in the suburbs of Rome. Headed by patriarch Giacinto Mazzatella (Nino Manfredi), the family practices all sorts of debauchery in the midst of the shantytown. When Giacinto comes into a fortune due to an insurance payment, he plans to spend it all on himself while his descendants try to find the treasure. Unfortunately, he may have also forgotten its whereabouts… Trovajoli’s catchy score includes a theme song for the unusual family as well as a strong main theme featuring solo harmonica and synthesizers. The youngest children of the family, who are kept in a play cage, are immortalized in a folksier tune. A host of fun source cues emanate from the family’s most important treasure, a TV only capable of broadcasting RAI programming. The score for BRUTTI, SPORCHI AND CATTIVI was originally released on a 12-track LP by RCA; a GDM CD reissue came out in 2009 with one bonus track. This 76-minutes-long CD contains the remastered original album as well as the film versions and bonus material, thus including everything recorded by the composer for the film. Produced by Claudio Fuiano with the support of the Trovajoli estate, and mastered by Chris Malone, the release includes a lavishly illustrated 12-page book with liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score. 1. Kam von Music Box Records: Expanded and remastered edition. 8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Gilles Loison. In collaboration with Gaumont, Music Box Records proudly presents on CD the original motion picture soundtrack of the French animated film Astérix et le Coup du menhir (Asterix and the Big Fight, 1989) composed and conducted by Michel Colombier. After Asterix the Gaul (1967), Asterix and Cleopatra (1968), The Twelve Tasks of Asterix (1976), Asterix Versus Caesar (1985) and Asterix in Britain (1986), Michel Colombier came after Gérard Calvi and Vladimir Cosma for this new Asterix and Obelix adventure. The creators (Yannick Piel and Philippe Grimond) chose to base the story on the comic book Asterix and the Soothsayer, adding as a prologue the druid Getafix’s head injury, caused by a menhir in the comic book Asterix and the Big Fight, which makes him lose his mind. As for the film’s music, they wanted a broad symphonic score in the style of early 20th century Russian music, but not a full-on pastiche and were seduced by Michel Colombier’s work, notably his score for the movie The Golden Child (1986), mixing synthetic sounds, percussion and orchestral elements such as brass instruments and strings. Michel Colombier composed an orchestral score with atmospheres reminiscent of Prokofiev, Shostakovich or Stravinsky. This present edition has been fully remastered from DAT session mixes courtesy Michel Colombier's vaults and features previously unreleased music. The package includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison, discussing the film and the score. The CD release is limited to 500 units. 1. Le Druide dans la forêt (Générique) (1:39) 2. In collaboration with Dargaud Media, Music Box Records is pleased to reissue the soundtracks from the Lucky Luke animated films composed and conducted by Claude Bolling in a 3-CD box set: Daisy Town (1971), La Ballade des Dalton (The Ballad of the Daltons, 1978) and 1990's French television series (Lucky Luke, TV Series 2). Lucky Luke is a Belgian comics series created by Belgian cartoonist Morris, and for one period written by René Goscinny. Set in the American Old West, it stars the title character Lucky Luke, the singing cowboy on a white horse known as the "man who shoots faster than his shadow", largely inspired by westerns, American cartoons and Hergé’s Tintin. Morris drew no less than seventy albums of the adventures of Lucky Luke, 300 million books have been sold and the stories of the lone cowboy have been translated into 29 languages. It is one of the most popular and best-selling comic-book series in continental Europe. Goscinny, the creator of Astérix, directed and co-produced the French-Belgian animated Lucky Luke films. Goscinny and Morris engaged the services of Pierre Tchernia (French cinema and television producer, screenwriter), whom Goscinny had known since 1965 and with whom he shared a great interest in the world of Walt Disney. In 1990, a new series of 26 episodes is produced with the collaboration of Morris. This present edition showcases Claude Bolling's creative versatility for the two feature-length cartoons and the TV series. The three lively scores offer a wide array of musical styles and genres: western film music, Hollywood musicals, blue grass, tijuana music, jazz music in the Count Basie big band style, some iconic songs such as the famous ‘‘I’m a Poor Lonesome Cowboy’’. This special 3-CD reissue has been newly remastered from the composer’s original master tapes. The package includes a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison, discussing the films and the scores. The 3-CD release is limited to 300 units. DISC 1 – DAISY TOWN (1971) 1.
