African Folktales, Reimagined: Katera Of The Punishment Island, Ahuurra Andrew
Schöne Musik zur ersten Folge der Netflix-Serie. Wer Spaß hat an Scores mit afrikanischem Gesang (z.B. den Lebo M.-Zusammenarbeiten mit Zimmer oder Goldsmith) und viel Lokalkolorit sollte einen Versuch wagen. Lohnt sich. Das Album ist ja auch nicht so lang.

Dragon's Domain hat letzte Woche bereits den nächsten Schwung an neuen CDs angekündigt, darunter The Golden Age of Science Fiction Vol. 2  mit Musik von Gerald Fried, Walter Greene und Paul Dunlap. Der guilty pleasure Faktor ist hier wie bei Vol. 1 ziemlich hoch. Auch hier finden sich wieder Scores, die ich mir damals auf dem MMM Label gewünscht hatte, darunter der Zsa Zsa Gabor-"Klassiker" Queen from Outer Space. Auch hier dürfte David Schecter von MMM wieder für das Bandmaterial an B/C-Movie Scores gesorgt haben. Walter Greenes War of the Satellites ist ein überraschend starker Score, dessen Main Titles mit dem eigentlich nötigen größeren Orchester auf einer der MMM Neuaufnahmen Alben zu finden ist. Gerad Fried ist hier schon ganz in seinem späteren Star Trek TOS Sound, und auch Strawinsky aka Der weiße Hai schauen wieder um die Ecke. Der größte Klassiker hier ist natürlich Paul Dunlaps Angry Red Planet, ein so-lala Score (von dem es immer hieß, er sei verloren) für den Kultfilm. Müßig zu erwähnen, dass es auch hier wieder keinerlei Copyrightangaben auf dem Backcover zu finden gibt. Wie schon öfter hier angesprochen war Schecter immer vorne weg, wenn es um den Kampf gegen Bootlegs ging. Aber die Entwicklung auf dem CD-Markt hat da wohl für ein Umdenken gesorgt.....

Das ganze Album zu Morton Stevens' Manions Of America hat nun auch die digitalen Gefilde erreicht. Mono. Tonqualität nicht so doll. Wohl von ollen Bandkopien aus dem Stevens-Nachlass. Als Titelmusik dient "Minstrel Boy", das auch schon Jarre bei The Man Who Would Be King verwurstelt hat. Die zweieinhalb Stunden schaffe ich nicht.

DD hat zwischenzeitlich auch noch ein Album mit TV Movie Scores von Stevens nachgeschoben, auch da schrecken die Clips eher ab. Eben das Material, dass für DD zugänglich ist. Sowas wie seine Musik zu der hochkarätig besetzten Miniserie Wheels mit Rock Hudson und Co. liegt leider bei Universal TV.

Von Paramount digital eine alte Synth-Musik von Howard Shore. FIRE WITH FIRE von 1986. Sowohl musikalisch als auch klanglich etwas dürftig. Stände nicht "Shore" drauf, ich hätte es nicht bemerkt. Typischer Synth-Drama-Thriller-Score der 80'er.

In collaboration with Gaumont, Music Box Records proudly presents on CD the original motion picture soundtrack of the French animated film Astérix et le Coup du menhir (Asterix and the Big Fight, 1989) composed and conducted by Michel Colombier.

After Asterix the Gaul (1967), Asterix and Cleopatra (1968), The Twelve Tasks of Asterix (1976), Asterix Versus Caesar (1985) and Asterix in Britain (1986), Michel Colombier came after Gérard Calvi and Vladimir Cosma for this new Asterix and Obelix adventure. The creators (Yannick Piel and Philippe Grimond) chose to base the story on the comic book Asterix and the Soothsayer, adding as a prologue the druid Getafix’s head injury, caused by a menhir in the comic book Asterix and the Big Fight, which makes him lose his mind. As for the film’s music, they wanted a broad symphonic score in the style of early 20th century Russian music, but not a full-on pastiche and were seduced by Michel Colombier’s work, notably his score for the movie The Golden Child (1986), mixing synthetic sounds, percussion and orchestral elements such as brass instruments and strings. Michel Colombier composed an orchestral score with atmospheres reminiscent of Prokofiev, Shostakovich or Stravinsky.

This present edition has been fully remastered from DAT session mixes courtesy Michel Colombier's vaults and features previously unreleased music. The package includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison, discussing the film and the score. The CD release is limited to 500 units.

In collaboration with Dargaud Media, Music Box Records is pleased to reissue the soundtracks from the Lucky Luke animated films composed and conducted by Claude Bolling in a 3-CD box set: Daisy Town (1971), La Ballade des Dalton (The Ballad of the Daltons, 1978) and 1990's French television series (Lucky Luke, TV Series 2).

Lucky Luke is a Belgian comics series created by Belgian cartoonist Morris, and for one period written by René Goscinny. Set in the American Old West, it stars the title character Lucky Luke, the singing cowboy on a white horse known as the "man who shoots faster than his shadow", largely inspired by westerns, American cartoons and Hergé’s Tintin. Morris drew no less than seventy albums of the adventures of Lucky Luke, 300 million books have been sold and the stories of the lone cowboy have been translated into 29 languages. It is one of the most popular and best-selling comic-book series in continental Europe.

Goscinny, the creator of Astérix, directed and co-produced the French-Belgian animated Lucky Luke films. Goscinny and Morris engaged the services of Pierre Tchernia (French cinema and television producer, screenwriter), whom Goscinny had known since 1965 and with whom he shared a great interest in the world of Walt Disney. In 1990, a new series of 26 episodes is produced with the collaboration of Morris.

This present edition showcases Claude Bolling's creative versatility for the two feature-length cartoons and the TV series. The three lively scores offer a wide array of musical styles and genres: western film music, Hollywood musicals, blue grass, tijuana music, jazz music in the Count Basie big band style, some iconic songs such as the famous ‘‘I’m a Poor Lonesome Cowboy’’. 

This special 3-CD reissue has been newly remastered from the composer’s original master tapes. The package includes a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison, discussing the films and the scores. The 3-CD release is limited to 300 units.
