Ja, okay, MACHETE KILLS ist fies gefloppt, aber braucht Rodriguez echt so dringend Geld?

Na ja, anders als sein Kumpel Tarantino hat er eben nicht den kommerziellen Erfolg bzw nicht mehr, noch geniesst er ähnliches Ansehen bei den Kritikern. Da versucht man eben bereits etabliertes neu aufzuwärmen. Aber Rodriguez ist doch eigentlich eine Ein-Mann-Armee, Regie, Drehbuch, Kamera, Musik, Schnitt, Effekte, das macht er doch alles selbst in seinem Studio, da braucht er zumindest schon mal nicht so viel Geld für eine Crew.

Davon scheint Rodriguez schon länger abgekommen zu sein. In den letzten Jahren arbeitete er ja fast nur an Fortsetzungen (Spy Kids 2, 3, 4, Once upon a Time in Mexico, Predators, Sin City 2, Machete Kills und vielleicht ja noch Machete Kills Again). PLANET TERROR war der letzte Film von ihm, der mir noch gut gefiel. Da war das ganze GRINDHOUSE-Ding auch noch neu und unverbraucht, der Film selbst noch unterhaltsam. MACHETE war ganz nett, aber der Drops war eigentlich schon gelutscht. Und seine grellen und quietschbunten Kiddie-Sachen (Spy Kids, Shorts, The Adventures of Lava-Boy and Shark-Girl) sind auch eher Geschmackssache. DESPERADO und FROM DUSK TILL DAWN werden wohl seine besten Filme bleiben.

Neue Rolle für Joseph Gordon-Levitt
 

Trotz des großen Boxoffice-Erfolges von „Man of Steel“ in diesem Jahr, können sich die Verantwortlichen bei Warner Bros. keinen Stillstand erlauben. Pläne für eine große Ausweitungen des filmischen DC-Universums bestehen offenbar (Warner Bros. hegt Pläne für komplettes DC-Universe in TV und Film) und sind auch notwendig, will man nicht den Anschluss an die direkte Konkurrenz von Disney und den Marvel Studios verlieren. Neben Plänen für die „Justice Leauge“, „Wonder Woman“ und Co. manifestiert sich mit „Sandman“ offenbar ein neuer Kandidat als Titelheld einer zukünftigen Filmadaption. Angeblich hat Drehbuchautor David S. Goyer („Man of Steel“, „The Dark Knight Rises“) Warner nun einen interessanten Pitch vorgelegt, wobei gleichzeitig Joseph Gordon-Levitt als Hauptdarsteller mit dem Projekt in Verbindung gebracht wird.
Aufgeschnappt haben das Gerücht die Kollegen von Badass Digest, wonach Warner Bros. der Idee von Goyer „sehr zugeneigt“ sei. Ob das Projekt letztendlich tatsächlich verwirklicht werden sollte, steht momentan natürlich noch auf einem anderen Blatt. Aktuell entwickelt man nach dem Vorschlag von Goyer aber wohl erste Ideen für eine Kinoadaption von „Sandman“. Dass Warner Bros. außerdem davon träumt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt als Helden eines ihrer Franchises zu platzieren, dürfte spätestens seit „The Dark Knight Rises“ klar sein.
„Sandman“ ist eine Comicreihe des englischen Autors Neil Gaiman und erzählt die Geschichte von Morpheus, einer Personifikation der Träume und Herrscher des Traumreichs. Die Serie erschien zwischen den Jahren 1988 und 1996 und wurde mittlerweile in eine umfangreiche Geschichte von über 2000 Seiten in wenigen Bänden zusammengefasst.

Nächstes Jahr kommt es zu einer (wohl) einmaligen Reunion der fünf noch lebenden Mitglieder von MONTY PYTHON (John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin und Terry Gilliam. Graham Chapman starb bereits 1989). Am 1. Juli 2014 werden die Pythons in London in der O2 Arena zum ersten Mal seit 40 Jahren wieder zusammen auf der Bühne stehen für ein Live-Programm. Eine kleine Reunion gab es bereits 1998 in Aspen, bei der die Pythons den AFI Lifetime Achievement Award überreicht bekamen. Grahan Chapman war damals auch dabei, "seine" Urne stand mit auf der Bühne. Karten kann man ab Montag hier bestellen.

Baz Luhrmann wird vielleicht bei einer  Miniserie aus dem Hause Spielberg Regie führen. Vorlage für die Serie ist ein Stanley Kubrick-Drehbuch zum Thema Napoleon

 

One of the great “what ifs” in cinema history is Stanley Kubrick’s long-developed biopic Napoleon.  The filmmaker planned a historical epic chronicling the life of the French Emperor, but the ambitious project proved too difficult to get off the ground when studios refused to front the massive budget needed to tell the story; Kubrick would even tell the studios that Napoleon would be “the best film ever made.”  The project remained uncompleted when Kubrick unexpectedly passed away, but Kubrick’s friend Steven Spielberg announced earlier this year that he would be turning the filmmaker’s Napoleon script into an HBO miniseries.  Now it appears that Spielberg and HBO are courting a very interesting director to tackle the adaptation: Baz Luhrmann.  Hit the jump for more.

Deadline reports that Spielberg and HBO are courting The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann to direct what is being planned as the highest-profile miniseries in HBO’s history.  A deal has yet to be made, but Lurhmann tackling a biopic of Napoleon Bonaparte scripted by Stanley Kubrick and produced by Steven Spielberg is a wholly fascinating prospect.  The pay-cable network can afford to take some risks thanks to the massive success of Game of Thrones, and they will no doubt be putting a hefty amount of money into Napoleon should Luhrmann accept the gig.  The filmmaker has yet to settle on a follow-up project to this year’s ambitious The Great Gatsby adaptation, so one assumes he’s able to fit Napoleon into his schedule.

The HBO miniseries isn’t the only Napoleon project in development at the moment, as Warner Bros. is also planning a feature film about the figure to be directed by Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders.  Ironically, Lurhmann found himself in a similar horse race when he was mounting Alexander the Great with Leonardo DiCaprio, but Oliver Stone and Colin Farrell’s film beat them to the punch and Luhrmann’s project never moved forward following Alexander‘s dismal commercial and critical performance.  However, Warner Bros.’ Napoleon feature and the Napoleon miniseries are extremely different projects, so there’s no reason both can’t exist at the same time.  Moreover, HBO is used to working very quickly, so should Luhrmann sign on, production could feasibly get under way later next year.

Moving out of the path of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, Duncan Jones' Warcraft has given up its December 18, 2015 release date and has moved to March 11, 2016. Universal, which is distributing the Legendary film in 3D, has meanwhile announced an April 16, 2016 release for their The Mummy, which has Andres Muschietti attached to direct.

Legendary Pictures also announced a January 16, 2015 release for Michael Mann's untitled cybercrime thriller (formerly known as Cyber) and a February 6, 2015 release for the fantasy adventure Seventh Son. Mann's film will go up against 20th Century Fox's new take on Frankenstein and Lionsgate's animated comedy Norm of the North, while Seventh Son is the first film to claim that February date.

Universal has, lastly, set Rob Cohen's comedy The Boy Next Door for January 23, 2015 where it, too, is arriving on a currently empty weekend.

The film officially announced for development in August, Universal Pictures has today set an August 14, 2015 release date for their upcoming fifth entry in the Robert Ludlum-inspired franchise that launched with The Bourne Identity in 2002.

Justin Lin (Fast & Furious series) will direct with Jeremy Renner returning as Aaron Cross. Frank Marshall once again produces, alongside Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate. Lin will also produce for his Perfect Storm Entertainment.

The August 14 release date has Bourne 5 opening opposite The Smurfs 3.

Universal also has set the Luc Besson-helmed Lucy for release on August 8, 2014.

Starring Scarlett Johansson, the action-thriller tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic. Lucy also stars Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman and is produced by Virginie Besson-Silla for EuropaCorp. Universal Pictures will distribute the movie worldwide, except for France, Benelux and China.

The August 8 date has Lucy going up against Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The 100 Foot Journey and Into the Storm.

Update bzgl des neuen Mad Max Film
 

George Miller has given an update on the much-delayed Mad Max: Fury Road, and sounds pretty positive about the state the film is currently in.

“Our film, luckily after a ridiculous amount of work, is testing extremely well,” says Miller. “We're very happy.

“There has been a lot of doubt about it, [with people saying] 'it took so long', but Warners have delayed it until 2015 to go into the top weekend of the year.”

As to that delay, Miller goes on to explain that the decision to move the film away from 2014 was based on a desire to avoid competition with the FIFA World Cup that summer. Whether 2015’s cinematic landscape will be kinder to it, remains to be seen…

Finally, Miller went on to confirm that Mel Gibson will not be taking a cameo role in the new film, saying, “It would have been nice somehow, but no, it's not true.” Boooo!

Directed by Miller and co-starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult, Mad Max: Fury Road will open in the US on 15 May 2015, with a UK date to be confirmed.

Disney sichert sich die Rechte an kommenden Indy-Filmen:

 

 

The Walt Disney Studios and Paramount Pictures have reached a distribution and marketing agreement for the Indiana Jones franchise.

Under the arrangement, Disney gains distribution and marketing rights to future films, in addition to retaining the ownership rights it secured when it acquired Lucasfilm.

Paramount will continue to be responsible for distribution of the first four films in the franchise and will receive a financial participation on any future films that are produced and released.

Disney also had to buy the rights from Paramount to market and release “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3,” which earned Paramount a considerable sum in return.

 

Disney has not officially announced that a fifth “Indiana Jones” film is in the works.

While promoting his Relativity film “Paranoia” in August, Harrison Ford expressed interest at another crack at the whip but, as of right now, no writers have been hired to write a script.

Sources say that Steven Spielberg, who directed the previous films, would still be interested in helming future pics but, like with the other installments, a story would first need to be hashed out before Spielberg would ever commit. Insiders also added that while George Lucas has sold his stake in Lucasfilm to Disney, he still may have a part in developing the story like he and Spielberg had done in the past.

That said, Disney will likely move quickly to get a film in motion, given Disney’s desire to monetize its $4 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm.

The last installment, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” grossed $783 million worldwide. The entire franchise has earned $1.9 billion.
